Commissioner here, huge thanks to Brandon for doing this, I lack the musical understanding to know what I could expect from this but what he came up with is absolutely perfect, been enjoying this for the past few days before it was up on yt, I guess I’ll do a little blurb on why I like the matchup
The connections are super easy to get, someone only just sorta aware of both characters will immediately get the main points behind it and the more you look into it the more that come up
It’s also surprisingly debatable using legends or canon (canon is far closer) Luke, simply because mark is so damn fast,
I also think that mark presumably being able to tank hits from lightsabers gives it significant animation potential with hands Vs lightsaber
And now this track is a huge part of what I like about it it was well worth the wait.
Uh… you forgot about the bs of the force…
@@IntrusiveThoughts838
Legends Luke should still take it it’s just way closer that you’d think, canon can go either way though, Mark is just so much faster
Yeah, it can go either way because it is debatable for both. Luke’s haxes & power with The Force VS Mark’s speed & strength makes this very interesting & wonders who takes it
Is this a reference to Legacy of the Force: Invincible?
Uhh.. Sorry to tell you but Legends Luke stomps. He can get higher dimensional scaling thanks to the Oneness, which basically let's him become one with the Force.
"At least it's not Gohan" - Mark, probably
Mark when he finds out that Legends Luke scales HIGHER than Gohan thanks to Oneness giving him higher dimensional scaling: "... NEVERMIND!!"
@@brianmuicey1283Death Battle has said in a cast that they never like using Legends scaling since the feats start to become outliers when compared to what Jedi have done in other continuities
So they usually scale them at most to Sun or planet levels of power
@@Skynetbear As someone who doesn't actually believe in Star Wars outerversal scaling, that genuinely sounds like an excuse to lowball them. Palpatine creating Galaxy wide storms was a pretty big deal.
@@lolstalgic9602 Take it up with them if you have a problem with it. I’m just the messenger
@@lolstalgic9602 I mean you could also make the excuse that using legends feats is an excuse to highball them
I love how the track name alone just tells you who won this fight
Legends Luke wins
Canon Luke loses
DB composites both so Luke still wins
@@TheUncivilizedNationI feel like cannon Luke still has this I don’t think mark can go vs the force and do well
@@Branham67 Luke Skywalker VS Harry Potter (Star Wars VS Warner Bros) Force and Magic
@@SashaGogolev2 I fucking hate that match up
@Branham67 Yeah I agree although that was when death battle was still a more niche internet series.
Connections:
- Both were powerless teenagers living normal lives before their adventures.
- Both didn't know anything about their race or bloodline.
- Both believed their fathers were great heroes, of course they figured out the truth eventually (Vader/ Omni-Man).
- Before learning said truth, they follow the lies they have been told about their fathers and become (Jedi/ Hero).
- Their Fathers serve in all-powerful empires and are loyal to their cause.
- Both help a group fight against said empire (The Rebellion/ The Coalition of Planets).
- Both lose badly in their first fight against their father (Luke gets his hand chopped off and Mark nearly dies).
- Both are able to turn their Father's to help stop said Empires leaders (Palpatine/ Thragg).
- They had siblings unknown to them.
- Both end up becoming the strongest of their people, and their new leaders.
They do have a lot in common but there are other options for both of them that are more popular.
Who was Mark's sibling in the comics?
@@captainvalkyrie999 Oliver the show just introduced him in episode four of season two.
@@jonathanbarr9764While that is true, I honestly don't like most of their other options.
@@MidnightPhantom Yeah Luke only has one other popular option unless they decide to do a rematch against Harry Potter. While Mark has a few more options including both versions of Nova from Marvel comics, Gohan, Future Trunks, Nero, and Superboy (Connor Kent).
Damn he wasn't lieing
That Force can be Strong
"Ight, imma fight Luke Skywalker"
"Damn, Force got hands"

"Man, ##ck the empire"
It's true
“I… I thought you were stronger..”
Luke is (Legends at least) surprisingly powerful. I should know- he almost beat Saber from Fate in a G1 blog I participated in. Almost defeating a Fate character is… strong, needless to say.
Poor Mark. At least he can rest assured the galaxy will be safe under Luke’s watch.
Can I get a link?
YOU'RE STILL ALIVEEEE!
This music gives off the dynamic of Mark constantly getting the shit beaten out of him and repeatedly getting right back up to take whatever Luke can dish out at him, even if he cannot win the fight. I feel like Luke would find this head strong attitude admirable.

@@mylessmith9758(Title Card is also cut to pieces by a lightsaber)
The track gives me the impression of a more tactical fight. Which makes sense Invincible can't just charge in as Luke has the reflexes with his lightsaber to cut him in two or just use the Force to freeze him/push him away. Luke on the other hand is up against a flying opponent who can smash him into paste if he isn't careful. So the matchup is almost like a cautious but fast game of tag.

This would be an..interesting matchup. Mark is definitely physically strong enough to kill Luke
*If* he could even touch Luke. Luke should be more skilled, more intelligent, about equal in terms of reaction timing, not to mention The Force.
I see this going down as Mark trying to bum rush Grandmaster Luke, but he dodges, and dodges, not attacking but studying Mark's movements.
Mark gets creative and tries to use the environment to his advantage, which prompts Luke to do the same.
Eventually, Luke sees his moment of opportunity and dismembers Mark, attempting to end the battle without death. To his surprise, Mark gets back up, angrier than before. Luke is forced to end Mark.
In the end, The Force was Stronger.
This is the kinda fight I could easily see being set up as a light hearted sparring match between the two and slowly growing more intense as the battle continues
I’d reckon Luke would still have some attacks thrown in, to keep Mark at bay and maybe go for a lucky shot, so as to not leave himself too open.
Mark narrowly avoids Luke’s counterattacks and follow-ups, but every time, it gets closer and closer, until Luke goes for a feint to the abdomen before using his wrist to go up through the shoulder via the armpit.
Though the use the terrain thing would still be in between the defensive phase and the feint leading to the next act.
@@Aaa-vp6ug Agreed. Luke is just too intelligent of a fighter for Mark to get the W. Not to mention Mark has no counter for The Force at all, his only chance is to try and just over-power Luke's telekinesis, which he might be able to do, but not easily and by the time he's about to, Luke is already prepared with a counter.

Think, Mark Think!
Invincible VS Star Wars is quite the interesting franchise combo but I can see the potential.
I'm apart of the school that Mark's best matchup is Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime from Transformers mostly because not only is it good but almost all of his matchups are really freaking bad but, while I don't think it's amazing, this matchup I can actually get behind for what it is, nice alt for both characters.
As for the song itself, it's a pretty standard track by Brandon Yates standards meaning that it's heavily enjoyable, fits the characters and does have unique elements but isn't revolutionary either. And, to me, the main pro the song has is how well it manages to combine Invincible's musical style with Star Wars'. Both styles are completely different so it wasn't obvious how exactly they'd merge but Brandon most definitely succeeded by doing it. The use of The Force Theme that switches the melody just enough to still be recognizable but feel unique nonetheless is really creative and meshes really well with Invincible's more impactful and bass-y style.
I will admit however that, while it is limited by the song's relatively short runtime, this does result in the track starting to feel a bit redundant at times because there isn't that much variation throughout its duration. Don't get me wrong, it's far from bad as I've covered above and there are a couple of segments that definitely do stand out. But the fact that most of the song is the same dynamic and mix repeated with little variation does mean that there it feels somewhat repetitive. Now this is, as said above, limited by the song's relatively short runtime and the fact that the dynamic that is indeed here is really good so it doesn't tire out easily but it's still something notable.
What little there is in variation however I really like. What I'm referring to by that would be the slight progression felt throughout the song specifically at 1:03, 2:02 and 2:38 with those two first small breaks and the final climax of the song. I really like how, with each of those segments, the song feels like it increases in scale without actually increasing in intensity. The first one at 1:03 is a slight grand-feeling orchestral bit that feels mostly fitting of Luke, the second one at 2:02 is a short tense segment more so fitting of Mark and of course the final one is a mix of the two which gives a great sense of personality and uniqueness. It also makes it feel less "passive" about the matchup because it makes the song more dynamic and gives more involvement to the characters themselves by having this feeling of progression.
And of course I need to mention the ending starting at 2:38 on its own because it's a genuinely extremely unique and great-sounding segment. The use of the violin to introduce it which, despite the softness of the instrument, makes the song feel much more tense is a really good introduction to the grandiose and powerful finale starting at 2:58. It makes the ending feel like a movie-like climax where both characters ready themselves for one last ultimate attack (the calm break prior to the finale also seems to be a perfect segment for a "Trust in the Force" bit battle-wise) with tons of impact and that lasts just long enough to take in the strength, scale and winner of the clash. It's a really unique conclusion to a great, albeit somewhat repetitive, song.
Overall this track is one that's very unique. It manages to mix two completely different styles really well and even if it does end up being a bit repetitive over its course, this is only a minor issue as it still stands out really nicely and also manages to have a few elements to make it stand out beyond its basics. This in addition to a very enjoyable and powerful ending makes for a song that, while not revolutionary, is more than enjoyable. Amazing job with this as always.
Another fan of Hot Rod VS Invincible I see.

The crazy thing is that Luke legitimately, absolutely, stomps Mark even at a low end. If you read G1's blog on Luke vs Saber, you'll see how unfair it is.
From what I know Canon Luke loses but Legends Luke wins, how does he low diff Mark?
@@matthewcarreras1904 In terms of power (in Legends, not Canon), on a low end, the reborn Palpatine Luke defeated had the power to wipe out a solar system. In terms of speed, there have been Jedi and Sith that could move through frozen time that Luke upscales from.
On the high end, Luke has Oneness that allows him to transcend higher dimensions like hyperspace, and with speed, people in Oneness are said to transcend time altogether.
As ridiculous as Mark's pain tolerance and stamina are, unless he immediately blitzes Luke before Luke considers him a threat, Mark's got no chance.
@The0megaStorm I thought you were saying Luke wins either way. I mean yea SW Legends is crazy.
@@The0megaStorm "...the Reborn Emperor Palpatine that Luke defeated..."
Luke did not defeat Palpatine (either on his own, or in the way you are obviously meaning it, in the usual droolingly simplistic way Internet power scaler twits like to) in Dark Empire. That's the entire overarching point and theme of not just DE, but most of Tom Veitch's Star Wars works; Luke couldn't beat Palpatine at that time. He had to combine himself with Leia and the unborn Anakin Solo, enter total Oneness with the Force, and cut him off from the Force while he was distracted with an abillity totally anathema to his very nature. Luke won the lightsaber duel, nothing else. He would have died if he had even tried to get close. As Luke/DE itself points out; Palpatine defeated himself.
"...there have been Jedi and Sith that could move through frozen time..."
No, there aren't. Time slowing/stopping is borderline non existent in Star Wars outside of a few bits of technology, as well as Darth Ramage's gimmicks. The instance you are almost certainly trying to clumsily cite is from the Old Republic MMO, with Valkorion and the Outlander and Valiyn somehow managing to move. The issue there is it is not even vaguely explained what exactly it is that Valkorion is doing during those instances. It almost certainly isn't a geniune time stop though, for any number of reasons. It's more likely to be either a large scale Stasis (though that too, is unlikely) or Force speed.
Either way, though, moving during time stops has absolutely nothing to do with speed regardless, and certainly not in that case.
"On the high end, Luke has Oneness that allows him to transcend higher dimensions like hyperspace..."
This isn't a thing, no.
"...and with speed, people in Oneness are said to transcend time altogether..."
This isn't a thing, no.
@@papapalps2415 You're right that Luke didn't ultimately beat Palpatine by himself. I suppose I should've worded it differently. My point was that Luke did become stronger than Palpatine after their fight (and it is noted that Leia's presence may've simply unlocked more of Luke's potential), I just wrote it like that to summarize.
In terms of speed, my sources are not Valkorian. Jax Pavan could still react to a time stasis field, Rav Naaran was sealed in frozen time and could still think and act within it, and since Hyperspace has been said to allow potentially infinite speeds, reacting within it does imply some level of higher speed.
Finally, yes, it is a thing. Numerous Force users and weapons have channelled the higher-dimensional energies of hyperspace, including Palpatine in Dark Empire. Barriss Offee used Bota to achieve a state of transcendence in the Force that she explicitly stated would've allowed her to do anything if she had the knowledge of a master.
Honestly, at first I found it very hard to believe these things happened in Star Wars, but hey, it's fun to explore it
Okay, the Beat doesn’t match with both characters at all
