Crazy to think that the very copies i used to rent of older games are probably in someones collection today. Wish I could go back into a Blockbuster and browse the n64/ps1 games as an adult! i see so many games here on youtube that give me flashbacks to seeing the box art on the shelf back in the day. Some of my best years.
I grabbed the PS1 game from Walmart when it was originally released and then the N64 one was the first game I ever owned for that system. Picked it up used for $4.99 at Blockbuster in May 2003, completely at random, along with the first two Gamecube games I ever bought (Metroid Prime and Super Mario Sunshine).
I haven't really heard what exactly makes the games bad, besides "somewhat difficult to target the enemy", and "N64's mini games are bad". To be honest, it actually looks kind of cool for the PS1; like a hybrid shooter/fighter in an arena before stuff like Senko no Ronde. I'm going to try for myself.
Interesting comparison between the 64 and ps. Is the 64 version as expensive as the clay fighter one from blockbuster? I'd love to have both of them as they would look great in the collection. Awesome job with the vid John! 👍
i am a fan of the show and i didn’t know there was ps1 but well that’s just prime i always thought that cheetors 3d model looked weird and it was cool to hear the actual voice actors from the show except i think for rhinox
I never believe those “blockbuster only” stories. I don’t remember blockbuster ever having exclusives like that. And if they did it certainly wouldn’t be because the publisher thought they were bad games. Come on, John. You know better.
I remember the show (made by the same people who made ReBoot! Remember that show? I certainly do and it was the first 3 3D works to make an impact, the other ones being VeggieTales and Toy Story) but not this game but I have heard of it. Man is this game a letdown for fans of Beast Wars and fighting game fans in general. It would be a lot better if the movement wasn’t so hard to control or the opponent wasn’t so hard to get to. It’s just not very good, the N64 version is worse. Nintendo 64 has such weak fighters but Smash definitely stands out and probably not the go to system to get your fighting game fix. The PlayStation (and its successors) is definitely the go to system thanks to its many strong fighting games which is why FG fans flock to Sony’s consoles to get their satisfaction and why you see PlayStation 4 (maybe 5) systems being used in EVO tournaments. Not the worst fighter ever but that Powerpuff Girls one is much worse. No wonder western licensed works had a hard time. Yes John, you are right, there are so many awesome fighters out there. I wanna see a top 5 best and worst Transformers game and I think this would be the third worst. But to tell you what, there are a lot of good fighting games based off anime and manga works (some are meh but the reputation of fighting games remains strong to this day which is why you don’t see any bad ones in the modern age because modern fighting games are pretty much perfect) which makes anime and fighting games combined a match made in heaven like Hokuto no Ken (not a Fist of the North Star fan but I really like the game of it on PS2), Gundam Endless Duel, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure from Capcom, InuYasha: A Feudal Fairy Tale and of course, motherfuckin’ Dragon Ball FighterZ which is DANGEROUSLY AWESOME!!! But the ones that are original IPs featuring anime-style artwork are often awesome.
I enjoyed the comparison review John. I was a fan of Beast Wars back in the day and use to own the first Beast wars on the PS1. Also not that good of a game very generic
Well if you can track down the N64 version for cheap it is worth the money to resale it. I own both myself but didnt like the N64 version so I did end up buying the PS1 version as well? My favorite fighting game is the original Killer Instinct but I still enjoy most all fighters like Xmen vs Streetfighter,Marvel Super Heroes, Mortal Kombat 123, and the Street Fighter Alpha series.
Lol I have the PS1 version and yeah... it’s pretty dismal 😅 The previous PS1 BW game was a pretty decent TPS that i remember playing the heck outta. Inferno, TERRORIZE!!! 😎
I'm currently looking for this game for the 64. Not because I want to play it. But to knock it off the list. Good comparison!
John is a legend!
How the hell could you NOT mention the fact that Megatron still manages to get a "Yeessss" moment in the intro to the game?!
The show was so awesome back in the day!
I own the PlayStation version. I know the game isn't stellar but I love the Beast Wars Transformers!
Eugenio Angueira That’s Just prime
YEESSSS
FOR THE ROYALTY
this game needs the avgn treatment
Different but interesting. Thanks for another great video John! You rock!

I agree some of my best times were game hunting and also buying movies from different Blockbusters all around.
I have fond memories of the N64 one. A friend of mine had it and we played it a lot.
I actually liked beast wars back in the day.
Optimus Primal MAXIMIZE!! GUHHHHHHAARRHHH i loved this show
I really liked this video. It was cool seeing them compared.

I prefer the OG intro.

John, love your stuff for years now. Quick question. What are some really good cheap shooters for current gen or semi newer gen? Example like SIN MORA
I think karateka for the 7800 is one of the worst fighting games I own. Lol
Cosmic Carnage (PS1) or Battle Monsters (Saturn)?
I had better successs playing Battle Monsters and Cosmic Carnage is bad.
Well the first thing they messed up is giving the game 3 names at the same time.
Never played either version.
Is beast wars really that bad I wanted to buy it one day
Interesting concept

I loved the n64 version as a kid. It wasn't the best but it's what I had.
I like the fact they used the transmetal waspinator and terrorsaur in the N64 game, but still. I would have rathered they made a shooter.
It may have been a bad game on both consoles but most people who play or have played it only do it out of nostalgia.

Good video, could be better if you enable subtitles.
Thank you for commenting. I have now enabled auto generated captions if that helps.
John you are a legend screw the haters bro

I have both, so...
N64: Better graphics.
