Collecting action figures can be addictive. Soon there will be 12-step programs created to help us get off the plastic crack. I’ve managed by sheer willpower to stop picking up most lines of figures, however, a piece like this could not be resisted. Besides just being a work of art - the beauty of this Monkey King is you don’t need to pick up a whole line of characters. You’re set with this one as it easily displays as a single on its own.
I love standalones like that. Singular work of art.
And unlike past Figura Obscura figures - this one is not tied to any holiday. Easy to display all year long.
I just got my Sun Wukong in today, he is awesome and there's like an immense amount of layers to him. I wanted monke, now I have monke.
This was my first Figura Obscura figure and I love him.

🐒 Journey to the West. Surprising and amazing. When I saw all the new tooling for the skeleton horse I knew all bets were off and they could do anything next. I like the mythology direction and there's plenty I'd like to see them do. Kali from Hinduism or Odin from Norse mythology. The Greek Odysseys, the Hindu Vedas and Egyptian book of the dead are full of creatures villains and heroes to do. I'm always hoping for traditional Japanese Samurai as well personally. Thanks for another awesome review! ✌️

looks amazing, first Obscura i'm going to try for my only minor gripe is i wish there was a more lighthearted face for him as you yourself said Wukong was indeed a trickster so not having a face to represent that is a miss.

I was waiting for 9am to hit. To my surprise, Wukong. I love the story of the Monkey King. 🐒 This was an instant purchase.

I really appreciate this in-depth look at the full build of this guy, Bill, especially the pop and swaps! I'm still in awe of just how much new tooling went into this piece, as I've come to expect Figura Obscura to be, as you said, 85-90% Mythic parts. My process this morning was "load shop, quickly eye a bunch of parts I didn't recognize, and buy 2 just for the potential swaps/customs alone on the spot." But after watching your review, I need one to just BE Sun Wukong, because they absolutely nailed the character/look. I may need to do a round 2 on the second drop. Good stuff!

This figure looks really good! I’m not the biggest SW aficionado but when you showed the reuse 1.0 pieces, the colors and textures immediately made me think of a Luke or Obi Wan character. Seems like a really easy custom/tribute start 🤷♂️

I'm on the fence about this guy, so your video was already going to be super helpful for the figure, but I really appreciate the bits of lore you mentioned.
Regarding the elbow blemish, I have the same issue with my Duban and on that arm as well. Not sure what's up with that, but be careful, if it gets caught on the upper arm, it'll start scratching off the plastic.
Interesting, this is the first time I've seen this on this sculpt.

I actually am too. My brother isn't the hugest fan but dang I'm starting to like it myself. Then again he likes Japanese stuff more, I like Chinese things more and we sometimes end up clashing. All in good fun though.

I got 1 all in and 1 individual figure. With all the extra stuff it will be easy to pop and swap 2 completely different characters. Cannot wait!!!
I like how you’ve done a nice reset showing the breakdown of building FourHorsemen bodies. Very instructional. I like how those guys just continue to throw out more and more pieces and surprises. As shown the furry hands can have several purposes. I’m quite happy with the accessories. The staff I was hoping had a size change interchangeability. But that is a minor nit to pick. This looks fun. Can’t wait till end June/beginning of July. There are more travelers in this party as they Journey to the West. More options for obscure figures.
That would have been neat if they did a few different sized staffs to represent its changeability.

Yea this gona be my first mythic figure 🔥🔥🔥
This figure just blew me away, out of my near 100 figures from horesemen, I can say this one is one of the best in term of painting, texture and precision of execution, the other one that I think can be compared to this is the lion king and Aetherblade set. PS. As Chinese I feel somehow sad for that our traditional cultures and mythologies aren't well known for our own work, most Americans and Europeans know Sun Wukong from dragon ball, a Japanese anime, and lots of people think samurais are name for soldiers from all east asian countries, but in fact Japanese and Korean and almost all east and southeast Asian cultures comes or are affected deeply by Chinese culture, hope we can do better to make the world know about the Chinese history and mythologies more

I agree. I think some people just assume the Green Knight would be a green colored Mythic Legions knight, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Green Knight would need a ton of specific tooling and this release shows they are willing to do that.

Bill, a cool surprise. I honestly had no idea what was coming. I missed the first drop..I will try the second 'hoping the Horsemen added more stock for the second go around. You got your creative juices flowing for the swaps. Although I have no real connection to the character this figure is awesome ✌️

Great review, Amazing sculpt, looks fantastic. That said, at this point I think every company should adopt the mafex configuration for their articulation, It looks great, doesn't sacrifice that much in terms of sculpt and moves smoothly. Nice to see you have the exclusive reveal.
Four Horsemen have said many times that they will not sacrifice the durable modularity of Legions. While they have started adding more range to the joints, they'll likely never do double elbows, butterfly joints, or other more complex builds like that. This line is not a good fit for anyone holding out hope for that sort of hyper-articulation in the future.
@@DorkLair mmm didn't thought about that, true that the customizing, the mixing and matching it's a big thing. I never jump into legions myself, though I find them really great. Honest question, how could affect that modularity the double elbows or knees? It's because they are already stablished and changing too much will affect the line and the community or something about engineering? I find that japanese figures rely mostly in ball joints that pops in and out really easy and could be very swappable.
Awesome figure and review. So glad you had it in advance. Of course is a matter of preferences but this might be one of my favorite 4HS figure. Many options, great sculpt and completely new parts.
Even if the specific character isn't for everyone, the craftsmanship and execution are undeniable.

As a chinese ethnic, this figure has amazing details to the chinese armor.
The waist cloth seems to be threaded in the wrong direction though.
While it is understandable to make it the size it is so it can accommodate all the details, wukong is wayyyyyy too big.

Oh Man! I just bought a Sun Wukong aka Monkey King from BBTS a month ago. This one looks more animalistic. Possible I could use this one for High Evolutionary Army. Oh man, I was in Japan in 1980 when they had a Monkey TV show on. I couldn't understand a single word that was being said, but I thought Monkey was Cool as Hell! He was not only using Martial Arts, but Magic as well! I mean this guy defeated his own Pantheon! It took the Buddha himself to finally imprison him.

Sun Wu Kong is a great folklore character and the Figura Obscura goal, as I see, is to bring another figures that haven't connection with classical medieval fantasy.

@@DorkLair Well, like 2 hours after the annouce I saw the comments in mythic legions reddit and many said that this is a disapointment or "I was expecting Black Beard or another pirate" and someone even said that the Figura Obscura line was losing it's "plot".
I'm not from United States so it's common that some ideas or cultural aspects didn't match, but I know the opinion from american customers is far far more important for Four Horsemen Studios than the opinion around the world, so, if they didn't like an amazing figure as Sun Wu Kong I fear that Figura Obscura line will become " more as the same".
(I'm not so good writting, sorry for any mistake)
@@vitorafa7394 I like the Monkey King but I do agree the idea that Figure Obscura is losing it's plot. Krampus and the Headless horseman were dark fairy tale creatures. Those figures set the tone and expectations. Father Christmas is Santa Claus and the Monkey King is a selfish but good hero character. It feels like Figura obscura has lost its original direction to me.
I would have loved gripping feet that would have made this really unique.
