Alters of madness (a lot of!!!!) vs All....
Wish the tunes got remastered like this 👌
MAZE OF TORMENT, RAPTURE & FALL FROM GRACE.... Not only riffs but real metal masterpieces!!! Thanks Morbid Angel!!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼😈
Thank you!
If course Azagthoth is a genius. I gotta say, tho, that this video also highlights the amazing drumming of Pete “the feet” Sandoval. Those two together were an unmatchable team
I'd take Sean and Paul over those 2 any day. Reason being is that while I am a MA fan I prefer Sean and Paul's more.......adventurous style.
u high af
played around 200 shows and been to a fuck ton more, and i gotta say Fuckin Trey and Pete are the best live musicians iv ever seen, saw them in 1998 2001 2004 and blah blah blah

Trey Azagthoth: the biggest riff machine in the history of Death Metal
Him and the Hoffmann brothers, along with Terrance Hobbs
I would argue that Chuck should be in your calculus…
Trey's riffs are friggin' calorie burners, so ferocious yet musical!
ua-cam.com/video/oDD4tokxNec/v-deo.htmlsi=Zifl07rvQdm-v_i6
We truly were spoiled with this era of Death Metal, so many excellent riffs. Death will always be my favourite band but you cannot deny how great these bands were. The atmosphere they convey is something entirely different to the modern day death metal. Excellent playing by the way!
its a shame that all new death metal bands are more obsessed with guitar acrobatics and spider hand riffs than actually writing a memorable riff.
@@pablogonzalez4044 debatable
Totally agree with everything you said ! 🤘
@@pablogonzalez4044 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
@@pablogonzalez4044 I think it’s more because they can’t switch between riffs and sections effectively and with breathing room to allow it to sound memorable or different. When the entire song is the fastest blast beats and fast sweep picking with the craziest lowest growls possible, it gets lost in the mix. Some bands pull it off like archspire and necrophagist but everyone else just gets swept away. Even then necrophagist and archspire add breathing room with bridges and certain bits whilst other bands just assault your ears. Again there are bands that can even pull that off but they have actually good musicians who understand how to make it interesting and memorable, your average death metal band doesn’t lol
Altars Of Madness is amazing start to finish. Old School will never die! \m/
For sure mate !!
Damn right, Chapel of Ghouls is one of their best imo. I'll put Altars Of Madness against Reign In Blood any day...
I actually prefer Formulas and Covenant. Old school just isn't my thing compared to the late 90s/early 2000s Like later Death, Nile, and Steve Tucker MA
@@dominicross96 Steve Tucker era is really underated
How can you kill that which is already dead...
This guy is an endless flow of all metal. I've discovered a lot of new music through his videos. Quickly becoming my favorite channel.
Thanks a lot David ! Welcome !

Altars of Madness is just on another level!
Trey is a legend
Video idea: Terrance Hobbs vs. All
Damnit beat me to it!
Fucking true
🤘🤘🤘
Wooow exelent idea Terrance Hobbs are the father of technical death metal !!!!!!
Hell yeah, Hobbs is a pioneer
Brilliant :) One cool story, a good friend of mine (Harald/Demonaz) were touring with Immortal back in the days as support for Morbid Angel, and Harald bought the guitar module Trey was using, it is the same as he used on the Altars Of Madness sessions. Harald used this one as well one the third Immortal album 'Blizzard Beasts'. With almost the same settings as trey, but with some minor tweaking. But you can still hear the signature Trey sound on that album. Just fantastic. Anyways, keep this coming man, you are good!! Cheers Willie (V-Rex from Arvas)
Thanks a lot for the cool story Willie 🤘
@@TheSuffocater you are very welcome :)
I remember that tour, I was at the London show at the LA2 - great days!
@@_rootsman Indeed :)
I thought Trey always used the jcm900 head with rat distortion pedal
From Altars of Madness to Domination, all albums are masterpieces. Trey Azatgoth is one of my favorite guitarists ever. Such a great riff creator and very technicallly skilled. If I am not mistaken by reading rhe cd booklets, i recall that among his main influences in guitar are Eddie Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix and Jason Becker. He has great taste.
Formulas is absolutely a masterpiece too
@@roddlecoddle Nothing is Not is my favorite one from FFTTF. A great one too
Berni Magraner for me, and I love A-D which are all masterpieces (maybe D not so much but is still awesome), F is probably my favourite album of all time. It’s perfect and Trey is a genius.
@@roddlecoddle F is awesome. Maybe it is just me. Trey is a genius and a very underrated guitarist outside of the death metal circle. He is super authentic and innovative. Morbid Angel is undeniable influence for Gojira, for example. I love them too.
gateways to annihilation bro...

Can we throw oldschool decapped riffs in?
@@nikolaskazarsky5585 Early decapitated.
@@GeminiWoods yes,and early dead infection(1993)
Morbid Angel are immense. the approach to riffing is so different to their contemporaries. along with Cynic the most unique sounding DM band i listened to in the early 90's. nice vid!
ua-cam.com/video/oDD4tokxNec/v-deo.htmlsi=Zifl07rvQdm-v_i6
I loved that! Something i'm enjoying a lot in this old Death Metal era is the relative slowness and simplicity of the riffs. Sure it's still fast, but nowhere as near as the todays gymnastic spider sprinter like skills that i don't enjoy that much in todays Death Metal. Impressive but not memorable for the majority.
Old school was quite catchy, and really making a dark atmosphere...
Thanks mate ! You are damn right !!
Not just that, todays death metal are missing the thrash essence which made the 90s death metal era memorable and enjoyable in the first place.
@@Khalis33 Agree 100% Todays death metal scene or hardcore/metalcore/shitcore are missing what really makes death metal sound like REAL death metal...... That's fucking Thrash!!!!
Great video.
Thrash 'till death!!!
Do you like The Faceless
@@p.d.n.thrasher deathcore isn't what good modern death metal sounds like. That genre sounds like shit.
Blood Incantation, Fetid, Ulthar, Gatecreeper, Xibalba, Pissgrave, Cattle Decapitation, Cannibal Corpse, Tomb Mold, and Necrot are some of the best contemporary death metal.
Some bands are more progressive or heavier than others, but metal as a whole has been really innovative these past years.
It was amazing! Suggestion to the next video: Tony Iommi vs All Doom metal bands!!!
NICE!
Awesome work. Haven't heard some of those albums in years (except Morbid ofcourse), you made me want to listen to them again :)
Love watching you play. One of my favorite channels. May your 2022 be as epic as the metal bands you play

Great choices, Altars of Madness is one of my all time favourites (esp the Chapel of Ghouls and Immortal Rites riffs). Also love the way you pull out a strat for Obituary !

Absolutely brilliant, I loved this - I think it’s probably the best of your “Vs” vids!
Morbid Angel was the first gig I ever went to, London Astoria 1991, and Altars of Madness will forever have a special place in my heart! (also props for putting Cancer in there, Death Shall Rise is one of THE classics of death metal!).
Great video, as usual ! ;-) love this set, that brings me back a lot of memories !
