Looks like great fun, nice to see you out again, thanks for taking the time to put these videos together have really enjoyed watching over the last year or so, tight lines
Just watched Phil brilliant video as always it nice to fish for Flounders on light gear there are great to catch I took my Grandson who's 5 this year he absolutely loved it again totally enjoyed watching well presented 👏tight lines buddy 🎣👍
A very good video and he actually caught fish as well always a bonus. Nice to see him put them back as well He’s got a quiet manner about him as but at the same time very informative Nice one !,
Great vid as always 👌, i do most of my flattie fishing around ferryside down towards kidwelly, similar to the loughor. Like you said, great fun on light gear. Well done on the cod recently, cracking fish 👍
Quality mate just sub'd, class delivery, clear mate and throughout, superb results ya nutter! 'Mazin in short will watch ya other vids over the next few weeks.....also Stonking accent butty ;-)
Great flounder video I'm the flower the king of Hull my favourite spot flounder fishing I've had some absolutely massive flowers always seem to do well this time of year what's in summer I get some crackers to keep up the great work just subscribe to your channel mate keep it up
A very good video, don't do a lot of sea fishing, only when on holiday which is every month from April - September. I have learnt a lot, thank you .Allan Cox
Eazy lads you all ok, well done phill mate another excellant vid. Once again very proffesional filming. Loved the bites one minute i stood up to grab my rod and remembered i was in house haha . All the best lads from the other side of uk grimsby.👍👍👍
Great video, 30 years ago my local estuary on the east coast of England was just like this, full of Flounder and Eels, you could bring in 2 with every cast, now the Flounder and Eels are gone and the estuary is full of School Bass, still fun to catch on a light spinning outfit.
Great video phil, never targeted flounders but will give it a crack, for some reason I assumed they were a summer species. Have to say I’ve been waiting eagerly for the cod video part 2.. still after 1 myself and saw the beut you caught in the competition. Congrats 👍.
We catch flounder all year but in different areas. Usually it’s as simple as beaches in summer and estuaries in winter. I believe the flounders are still in the rivers in summer but it’s impossible to get through the crab in the warmer months. We have been trying to record a second cod video but we have been unlucky with just getting other species so far. We plan to push on and get a few more videos as soon as we can. Thanks for watching Matt 👍🏼
Ayup, i switched to circle hooks size 1,0 now ,flounder fishing in the humber, they hook up nearly every time with no deep hook problem's,, cheers for the vid 😊
There are some amazing marks on the Loughor. I find the further down the estuary, the longer you get fishing. I have fished the “Ash Tips” and the foundry area a lot. We are spoiled for choice!
Cracking video mate! I love flounder plaice and dabs. Got to be 1 of my favourite species of fish. How good was them bite indications!!! Great stuff. Tight lines 🎣🎣🎣
great video Bandit! I've always struggle with deep hooking flatties. you should have a look at billyfishing's video, he fished with lug on hairs and circle hooks. great technique for preventing deep hooking. also maddies are small rag right?
We haven’t tried circles but if you look at our video “surf fishing” on Cefn Sidan beach Lloyd demonstrates how to get the hook out of deep hooked flatties with minimal damage. Maddies are a small species of Rag but are different to king ragworm. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Hi Philip, great video. I'm based in Poole Harbour so have always been able to target the Flounder, we even have a league set up to fish for them October to mid January. However with this now being a Bass nursery, 4 breading pairs of seals introduced and the illegal netting for crab pot baits, the last few years have been terrible. I have friends in Barry that we may be able to visit in January (Covid rules allowing) and never knew this estuary was a hot spot. How long to they go on for? I have searched Google maps and think I have narrowed your location down, but the only football pitches I can spot are those by the Pavilion Cafe / Tramway Rd.... am I close ??
This is nearer the Gateway Resort (Caravan Park). The flounders seem to have thinned out a bit going on recent reports so you might have to wait until next year for the estuaries. October and November seem to have been the best months over the last few years. Smaller tides are best. The nearby surf beaches will start producing from April if you really want to try around here. Cheers Mike 👍🏼🎣
Great, have located it now...... a weekend in Oct / Nov now planned, we only use full rag in Poole harbour so I presume maddies will need to be sourced !! Is Dragon Baits a good shout?
Maddies are number one with it without lug/black lug on the hook first. Dragon baits are spot on but make sure you call them before you go to make sure. Also Anglers Corner in Llanelli will have worm
another great video mate, im just starting out my beach fishing here in South Wales, and wondered why you have your rods facing parallel to the water instead of having the rod tips facing forward? cheers mate
When the tide isn’t pulling to hard you can have the rods parallel to the water. This exaggerates the bites more than having them facing the water so you will see the smaller plucks easier
Nice vid and thanks, reminds me of a place where I fish which is very similar with to the stamp.of fish your catching. I like your sound, do you use a microphone? If so which one?
Nice one phil cracking video, do you think a pair of gt3 2/75 test carp rods paired with 6500 bait runners would work for light floundering on small estuary?
Hi Phil, thoroughly enjoy the videos and easy to follow explanations and tips. What weight of 'ball weight' do you use ti pin your rig to the river bed? I can only get 20gm at the moment.
Problem with Loughor is that theres a lot of Filipino people that snag fish down there Every bloody summer you see large groups of them using multiple treble hooks with a heavy weight and they snag everything from Flounder to Bass to Mullet keeping absolutely everything they catch regardless of size or species.
Most of the marks near Cardiff docks you’ll have to move up and down with the tide sadly. You can get away with a small beach shelter at “the boulders” on the foreshore but only on the smallest tides
I (Phil) will eat the occasional flounder. They are nice filleted and skinned then fried in a light batter. Or even filleted and fried gently in butter with just salt, pepper and fresh parsley. They are a very underrated eating fish.
A couple of questions mate, I’d much appreciate any feedback, even other viewers could answer if they see fit. Have you ever had much luck using shop bought baits which are unconventional. So like no worms or squid but like fish baits mackerel and herring or prawns. I’ve tried prawns once down my local river spot and I caught a crab but the tide and wind direction was unfavourable and the chop in the river was mental. Wool prawns catch me a flattie? Also you mention a mainline -shockleader combo, is that necessary, I run low diameter 80lb braid straight through to a 60lb rig body- either pulley pennel, two hook flapper or up and over rigs with 25lb hook snoods and 25lb rotten bottom. Keep me right is this a recipe for success or am I missing something important out. If it’s quality baits like worm cart or squid that makes all the difference let me know. Any replies would be sweet as a nut 🥜 dipped in chocolate cheers
In our local estuaries (South Wales) worm is key. Especially maddies/harbour rag. Bigger flounder will often be caught on peeler crab too. Worm tipped with mackerel can give you an edge on a rare occasion but I wouldn’t go out after flounder with fish baits alone. Shellfish such as cockles, clams and razor fish can be great on the clean beaches especially after a blow. Prawns could pick up fish if they are present where you fish. They are certainly worth a go. There’s no need for a shock leader if your mainline is that strong. We stick to the 10lb in strength of shock per 1oz of lead weight so your braid is more than enough for lobbing these smaller leads. Flapper rigs are generally all you need for flounders. Concentrate on keeping all your hooks close to the seabed by either adding a small bullet weight to the top of your rig body, leaving your mainline slack or by keeping the rod tips as low as possible. I hope that helps. Of course the above is my opinion and others may disagree. Keep it simple for flounders is the best advice - three hook flappers with size 2 hooks, keep the hooks on the bottom, quality bait, find features and cast regularly.
green banks that the name of that spot I fish that estry 3to4 times a week and where I go there like dustbin lids and big bass not school bass big bass
You call them maddies I call them harbour rag. I fish in and around the tamar river Plymouth for them and I do thread rag up the hook about 12 per hook
Thank you so much for doing these videos i been fishing for years but still class myself as an amateur but i am finding your video so helpful.
Brilliant video! Thanks for sharing!!!!!

Hopefully things turn around and the flounder return one day 👍🏼🎣
What estuary on the east coast is that mate?
@@troyke3 It's the river Orwell in Suffolk, between Felixstowe and Shotley, we always fish quite away up the estuary near the Orwell Bridge.
@@trevorjflack oh I see thanks for the reply

I used to fish Langstone Harbour, in the late 80s, and with my friends dad, we had 23 flounders. Always around 10. Ish😊🏴

Nice one phil cracking video, do you think a pair of gt3 2/75 test carp rods paired with 6500 bait runners would work for light floundering on small estuary?
Yes, that set up should be fine. Just take extra time to clean up any freshwater kit because the salt can ruin it 👍🏼🎣
Hi Phil, thoroughly enjoy the videos and easy to follow explanations and tips. What weight of 'ball weight' do you use ti pin your rig to the river bed? I can only get 20gm at the moment.
I can’t give you an exact weight as I make my own using an old unmarked mould but 20g should be more than enough Glyn 👍🏼🎣
Nice one Phillip! not bad for a Merthyr boy lol!! Stay safe bud!!
It’s a shame I’m 45 min from the nearest mark but I make do! Cheers butty 👍🏼🎣

Do you have any marks that are near Cardiff docks where i can set up my fishing bivvy and fish the night?.
Most of the marks near Cardiff docks you’ll have to move up and down with the tide sadly. You can get away with a small beach shelter at “the boulders” on the foreshore but only on the smallest tides

No sorry James.
There are plenty of people on social media selling though 👍🏼
Love you're videos I've heard earthworms are a good bait for flounders have you ever tried them?
I haven’t myself but I remember my uncle catching on them by the bridges in Loughor when I was a kid. I’m too lazy so I buy maddies!
Another banger lads 👌
