      Scotty Kilmer don’t know if you will reply, but I bought a new motor on my Prelude for my passenger side. I’m getting power on my switch that shows it goes up and down. Motor is brand new. Still showing sign that it goes down but not up. The driver side doesn’t do anything to make the passenger side go up or down. Could it be the driver side that’s the issue for both? (Driver side window works fine).

      I took my 4 year old car with only 40,000 miles to a body shop after something hit the windshield putting a smash in it and then damaged the driver’s door (I never saw a thing). The sleezy repair guy (recommended by my insurance agent) stole my entire car and put its vin into a similar vehicle that had been in a flood and looked like it had been used as a dog house in a salvage. Cops wouldn’t even take a report, couldn’t even talk to da without a police report, tried for over 2 years to find an attorney. Only justice I got was the insurance agent going to prison over unrelated but worse crime involving child porn. I’m a woman, but I’ll watch every UA-cam video before I’ll ever take my car, my mower, or anything I can possibly maintain or repair myself to a repair person. Scotty is one of my favorites and there are a few others that explain everything so well, even us ladies can usually fix it.

    I have a question: I installed a new regulator & motor in the door of my 1986 Chevy G20 but the window does not go all the way up, maybe missing the last inch or so. I don't know if its the wrong regulator, as it seems like it needs additional teeth on its half-moon gear. I am about to start drilling new holes everywhere to try to install the unit a bit rotated. Or is it possible I am using the wrong holes to install things now? Seems like there is only one way to fit the motor to the regulator. Any suggestions?

    Hey Scotty, Thanks for your videos. This video helped me fix my van's window--turned out to be a burned out fuse, which you mentioned in the video. Thanks again!

  • @scottykilmer
    @scottykilmer  11 років тому

    generally that means the regulator is bad. and yes, be careful removing the motor as it is compressed, but you can lock the wheel with a nut and bolt put through holes on the regulator to stop that.

    Scotty, I love the videos. In the future, would you mind saying about how long a repair should take, cost and the level of difficulty for a novice? Thanks again for the knowledge.

    check the main fuse for that first, pray it's just blown. If not, wiring short, check each switch to see if they get power and if none, rewire power there.

    You make it look so simple! My window is jammed in place with clothes pins. Someday I might brave it, but likely not. Things are never as easy as they might seem. Wish there was a Scotty nearby.

    Scotty, I have a 96 eclipse spyder. The car is a convertible, recently all the windows excluding the driver side window stopped rolling up or down. However for a while the driver side window would go up and down fine, recently the driver side stopped working to, however when i flip the switch i hear the sound for the motor. I don't hear any noise at all when I try and use any of the switches for any of the other windows. Do you know exactly what's going wrong? Really need to get the windows rolled up before it starts raining. Thanks

      the main switch assembly is probably bad, change that first. The realize the driver's side regulator is probably broken too

    a sticking window can do that. Spray silicone spray lube on the front and back of the glass where it rides on the ridge in the door frame, that often helps. If not, you need a new motor

    Scotty, changing out 3 window motors on a 2005 Toyota Highlander, 1 front passenger and the two in the back. Are the motors interchangeable when it comes to front and back on the same side? In other words, Am I correct in ordering (2)same part number motors for the right side(front/back) and different part number for the (1) back driver side window?

  • @scottykilmer
    @scottykilmer  11 років тому

    no time limit really, but try spraying the window glass front and back with spray silicone lube, that often speeds em up. But if not, time for new motor and possibly regulator assembly

    Is it possible for the window motor to freeze up/jam/stall/stopworkinguntilyoubangonit/ or anything like that Scotty? Because when I press the button I see my lights go a lil dim and I can hear very slight noise seems to be motor getting energized but not spinning

    Hey Mr.Scotty, i have a 2010 Sebring Sedan. After getting new keys made by the locksmith, I turned on my car and rolled down my window. The window rolled down faster than usual and is now stuck and the very top is just sticking out. Can i fix this?

  • @scottykilmer
    @scottykilmer  11 років тому

    replace the car window switch as I said, the one that you push to make it go up and down that makes it at least go down now. It's normally just that if it goes down but not up

    check the fuse for windows, you may have just blow that. If not, go back to that wire and trace it for power shorts as in my video "finding the source of electrical shorts on your car"

  • @scottykilmer
    @scottykilmer  11 років тому

    it's part of the switch assembly, either remove the switch or cut the wires going to it (but you'd have no power window then.) Many guys put tape over them to not use them when broken though if they don't want to spend money

The result of trying to get the inside door trim off so i can take a look at the inside of the outside driver door handle because thats not opening the car from the outside. lol... any thoughts???
