Great video... what about the Hidden Features 😊
So…. Why can’t we. Have full size cars getting better gas milage than cars in the 60’s?
PLEASE STOP WITH ALL THE EXCESSIVE HAND AND ARM MOVEMENTS !!! SPEAK WITH MOUTH ONLY !!! 😇
Can he slow down his arms flailings???????
I have a 2000 Chevy 1500 2wd with a 5.3. My transmission Line came off and leaked all the fluids since then I have fixed the leak but when I start the truck and begin driving it shifts ok but once I get to a stop sign it begins to struggle to take off like it’s not in the right gear and doesn’t shift anymore just says in the low or high gear did I blow my transmission??
Thanks Scotty for always informing us on things we normally don't think of sometimes. Great content! 🙂
Hi Scotty, After world war 2 the GM Holden Australia, team got together and they decided that we could build our own cars and build them lighter. During the war the engineers not only assembled in Australia, cars, trucks, jeeps, and tanks but they also built planes and learned how to build them lighter and stronger without a solid frame. in 1948 they produced the Holden car without a solid frame and many thousands of Holden cars were built, none of them fell apart on our terrible roads. They were simple and one could always get home, fixing a problem with a piece of fencing wire. Ted from down under.
I just got a 14 grand cherokee love it it’s good for most purposes got a little speed, good in bad weather, can tow a good amount and has plenty of room, it’s my first car too
The grand Cherokee is the mechanics best friend 💰
Sorry
@@whatsup7253 huh
@@melissasmess2773 somewhat true but varies car to car we’ll see if I get lucky so far perfect and about 4 months in
@@killswitchhz9066 Hope that you don't have any major problems with it, but be smart and plan ahead by selling a kidney now.
This Video is a prime example, of one of Scotty's greatest abilities: being highly competent in explaining in easy to understand terms the complexity of mechanical engineering, and at the same time, making it interesting ❣ 🇺🇸

I love you the correct terminology you use Scotty . Its like being back in motor vehicle school . Keep it up matey. Only Guy I know who talks sense
I had a mercury comet. Same as the falcons. 3 on the tree as they would say. Cool little car. Straight 6. You only needed 3 things to make and keep them running
Fuel
Air
Spark
No more no less
I learned to drive in a 1960 Ford Falcon, Straight 6 (smallest one), 3-on-the-tree, power nothing and vacuum wipers with less horsepower than a VW Bug. It had bench seats which were great for the teenage guy with his date or carrying a crowd of adolescent hooligans. Wonderful days.
My dad had a Ford Falcon pickup. Only one I have ever seen. This was in the mid 60s.
They were good transportation vehicles. You wanted to keep the cooling system up, so they wouldn't overheat and blow head caskets.
You forgot oil. My mom tossted our Falcon wagon when the oil light came on and didn't know what it meant.
I remember them, but there was not that many. @@northdakotaham1752
Love it when Scotty tells the facts about electric cars.
All AMC cars were unibody. I was a spot welder there.
Nash/Ramblers. I believe the 232 Rambler American was much quicker than the six cylinder Ford Falcons. Pity that most people ran them into the ground and did not take care of them. I think engine tuning (idle, off idle and light cruise air/fuel ratio) was leaner than other car brands (most Ramblers including the V8s)making them more sensitive to keeping the ignition system in top shape or they would develop missing and hesitation.
Yeah. I owned a 1973 Javelin, so NOPE. "All" ROFL
@@edwardschmitt5710 I can't attest to the Javelin/AMX. I welded half of the Gremlins and Hornets. I worked the day shift, 10hrs a day and 5hrs on Saturday. So take your ROFL. How many cars have you welded inside out?
@@davidpowell3347 All I can say about the 232 is that it was bullet proof. Owned a '73 Gremlin. Bought it new when I worked there. Got rid of it because it was terrible in snow. Get stuck in 4".
@@jamescampolo7824Yeah the AMC sixes were bulletproof. AMC engines seldom got the respect they deserved.
Happy Six Million Subscribers Scotty. Greetings from Philippines.
I believe Scotty couldn't talk without his arms, lol!!! Love you Scotty!
I believe the air-cooled VW bug was considered to be unibody. (The body sat on a platform, and the floors liked to rust out). It was designed in the '30s.
It was on a flat platform so kind of like a frame, you could lift the hitlermobile body off and turn it into a cool beach buggy .
It was but it had a Y channel holding the engine.
And thay ran forever!
They’re body on frame
The frame was a center tube with hangers to hold up the body.
As a deaf person would say, I totally comprehended from Scotty's hand jesters as to what he said 🤣🤣😎
Good points about the unibody Scott, thanks!
Scotty, I loved the picture of the heavy duty pulling.
Disabling that start/stop function might be the best hidden feature you can have.
I wish I could do that on my Mercedes but unfortunately I have to use my finger every time
@@melissasmess2773or do you? Lots of modules you can install to permanently fix that like my stuff.
I lock my steering wheel every day, push a button is not big deal.
Just un plug the stop start function from the battery under the passenger seat in a cherokee. It cures it instantly
@@blazeboyblazeboy4470Yes, but then you get a dash light 24/7
INTERESTING-- I would NOT have thought it was that way at all... THANKS- good info.
unibody cars were also quieter and tighter.....uncle had '61 TBird (unibody)......was very quiet and solid..no rattles......smooth ride
Awesome information Scotty!
So correct about the vehicle size and electrifying.
Great information;driving smaller cars are more fun to drive;totally true.
Thank you for your good work Sir.
Great information. Thank you.
I've had 2 1999 Grand Cherokees. Both had gas mileage matching or exceeding the newer V6 that Scotty is using for demonstration.
You are right again.
I wonder how far someone has to stand away from Scotty while he’s talking…. I love watching your videos Scotty! You are extremely smart.
Scotty, I was honestly looking for the hidden features the car companies didn’t want us to know. Good info as always, but I think you titled it wrong, this video was more about the frame of cars.
AMERICAN MOTORS AND CHRYSLER HAD UNIBODY CONSTRUCTION IN THE 1950S.
SOMEONE JUST FOUND CAPITAL LETTERS.
why the shouting caps?
So?
There needs to be a Wacky Waving Inflatable Tube Men for Scotty for how much he move his arms around.
Yep ! Love my Ram 1500 body on frame , Hemi engine, takes 5 people comfortably , safety and still the big boy on the road ! LOL
I’ve got a 2014 Cherokee Latitude with 150,000 miles. So far, so good. I get 22 mpg in the mountains and 34 on the open interstate highway at 70 mph
70? Stay in the slow lane bro.
@@edwardschmitt5710 Make sure you do not kill someone, "bro."
Unibody: Chrysler Airflow. 1958-1969 Continental. 1958-1966 Thunderbird.
That surprises me, I didn't know Lincolns those years used unibody construction.
@@dennisheadley4408 Does not include the 1969 Mark III.
As far as I'm concerned Scotty is the best mechanic / engineer in the land. You go Scotty!
Thanks for the info....
Did I miss the part of the video with the hidden features??
My first car was an 08 Grand Cherokee, it was a tank and a gas hog, and I took it through some severe dirt roads with potholes that resembled small lakes. The car was tough, but a total piece of crap costing me every spare dollar I had, I hope yours is better than mine was Scotty...
I couldn't take my 96 Wrangle roff road much before I sold it because it was busy breaking itself. Transmission blew at 76,000 miles for one thing....the motor burned all its oil and I'm sure that was great for it. I didn't seize it though. The best JEEPS were 1985 and earlier. Chrysler ruined the brand.
Scotty would never in a million years own a Stellantis product. That's not his.
Great video

"Nice outfit. Look even nicer crumpled up on my floor in the morning. Polyester doesn't crumple."
I just started jacking by frame they even put an enforced parts so i can jack safer thats so nice drom voswagen.
flash back is right. rode that place a lot few years back while I was working down there! 👍😎
In europe the term ' monocoque' is used for a single shell construction.
The best solution for safety is manual. When you need to slow down, just go to the second gear, so the car will easily slow down.
Most Americans can't drive/don't know how to drive manual transmission cars. You certainly can't hire them. I tried.
Scotty the last generation Suzuki Grand Vitara was built on a ladder frame and unibody construction.
Thank you scotty, ur a good man
Yesterday 3 cars I wouldn’t touch with a 10’ pole. One was a jeep. Today a complete critique on a jeep.
I have never understood why Jeeps are so popular.

Scotty my 98 Celica has its O/D OFF Light blinking is there something wrong with its automatic transmission? What course of action would you recommend?
Hey Scotty, you sound like Joe Pesci!
Thanks for revealing all the hidden features on my car.
Yeah, I've been waiting for him to talk about those "youts"....?
Thank you Scotty for posting this everyone appreciates it😊
You say they aren't made for towing, but the Grand Cherokee / Durango platform is rated on the low side for 6200lbs (3.6l) up to 8700lbs (6.4l and 6.2l).
So this vehicle is actually a beast for towing as far as SUV's go.
Yeah, but they aren't trucks... or really Jeeps, they are SUVs
@@Nigriff it's like every vehicle, it has it's pros and cons. The fact is, it has a jeep 4x4 system, and it works great. But sure, being a large SUV there will obviously be issues rock climbing. But it's purpose isn't Rick climbing. Just like a standard jeep blows for highway drives and getting groceries at Costco.
Then there is the whole point I made that Scotty got wrong, it is a towing beast. Now we aren't talking towing with a 3500 truck here. We're talking for an SUV, the Cherokee/Durango platform blows away the SUV segment. And it's absolutely a great option for recreational toy towing.
For me, 2 ATV'S on a trailer and my family of 7 fit in my Durango and it doesn't even feel like your towing.
Scotty the new Bronco there are two models one with frame and one is a unibody construction. They look very close to each other. I might be wrong but believe it’s true. Think their reason for unibody to meet a higher mpg and the frame model that doesn’t get as much mpg but better off-road thanks again for the info
Now if Ford would only put a decent engine in one.
The Bronco Sport is the one with unibody, made in Mexico. Don't waste your money
@@Nigriff thanks for update
@@northdakotaham1752 yes 5.0 be better only issue is hard to work on turbo models for me. 2300 motor seems ok maybe a hybrid if it is similar to the maverick think it can toe at least little light weight items.
4:52 I thought for sure that Scotty was gonna’ say it.
4:06 The Jeep Cherokee (XJ) and Grand Cherokee (ZJ/WJ) would prove Scotty wrong about off-roading in a unibody SUV.
I had a '97 ZJ. With serious off-roading, the the frame would crack, most notably around the lower corners of the rear tail gate, rockers and around all of the suspension mounts. Reinforcing plates would have to be welded in over the cracks and at all stress points. Ask me how I know. Sorry I did not save the pictures.
My WK would prove Scooty wrong about towing too. I can tow more (3500kg) with it than with my pickup truck (3000kg) that has a frame 😂
Towing capacity also depends on what kind of rear end (differential) you have.
IMO these are crossovers marketed as SUV's, they are made more for on road use rater that off road. When I go overlanding I want a body on frame vehicle like my current vehicle, a Toyota 4Runner.
Over 6mil and more good advice still more to come.
Scotty, what do you think of Aptera?
The first monoconstructed car in the true sense of the word was the Vanguard, the Volkswagen beetle was a body that can be unbolted from the floor same way a body can be separated from a chassis, monoconstructed is another name for unitary constructed or unibody.
Vanguard only made the unibody in the 1950s because they lost sales to Australia after the 1948 Holden came out. Same could be said about the Ford Falcon which reached Australia in 1960, they used to break across the back floor under the seat where the shockers attached, not up to our terrible roads. Ted from down under.
Saab 900c, Volvo 340, jaguar xj40. Less than 1 death per 100,000 sold. The only cars I really really like
Jags because they are always on jacks. LOL
How many Jags were sold? Baby Jags were using Mazda engines under the hood!
Volvo 340 was actually a DAF!
Saabs shared underpinning with Vauxhall/Opel after being acquired by GM since 1993.
I remember the days when Jags were British and Swedish cars were actually made in Sweden. All downhill since then.@@darcychu9652
If they lower the body why are they selling them with TALLER wheels n tires . When I the past they had 13" -15" wheels n tires . JUST WANTED YOUR OPINION THANKS keep up the great work
Just before I watched this I saw the news that Ford is cutting electric F150 production in half
In Contrary - the Cherokee XJ is one of the best Rock crawlers - it's also a uni body.

If I get into a crash, I prefer to have a solid frame car and use the other car involved as a crumple zone.
Hysterical ripping on these boat cars lol
My neighbors 2022 Jeep Cherokee just had to have the fuel pump replaced. It’s not even 2 years old.
My 2001 rav 4 still has the factory pump in it
My 69 chevy still has the original pump as does my old CJ

oooo interesting thanks
My 2020 Highlander V6 SUV gets 22 mpg in town and 26 mog on the road.
Is Subaru Impreza, and other models, a unibody vehicle?
Pretty Funny in 1965 5 my Dad brought a Falcon wagon for price and gas mileage. 1971 Torino 500 6 Wagon for gas mileage.
lol, watched this because I thought it was not an anti EV rant. O well, I'll try to remember this in a year when I check out the Cybertruck sales figures.
Cyber death trap. Have you seen the crash tests ? Way worse than a normal design of truck be it a stupid electric thing or a proper truck.
@@andljoy Have you seen the crash tests? I think not as none has been published other than that 15sec clip.
But don't worry as the Cybertruck is obliviously vaporware and no one would actually build it, and if they did who would buy it! /s
I saw a picture of one of the crash tests. Head on into a wall. The back tire broke off. Looked real nasty wouldn't want to be in it.
I have an 11 with the Hemi, and with the cylinder deactivation I get 20-21MPG highway, no tick, 200,000kms, and with the air suspension raised in offroad 2 mode I took it offroad keeping up with my friends LR3, but I don't trust the air suspension to be reliable.

Although I have a 76 chevy vega..it dont have much of a frame.

Harness Scotty’s hand waving - produce more power than windmills across the country.
The problem is that manufacturers are not going to pass on the cost savings of using a unibody frame to the customer. The customer will still be charged the price that they would’ve been charged if the manufacturer had used a body-on-frame instead. The vehicle manufacturers cannot be trusted when it comes to cost savings for the customer. They consider it a buffer for their bottom line.
The cars and other stuff made in Mexico and China are not any cheaper in the US. The rich stockholders just make higher dividends.
