Love all of your videos. Been enjoying them for 10 months now and my garden has grown from carrots and beets to zucchini, lettuces, arugula, kale, spinach, chard, snap peas, herbs, and several varieties of cucumber, tomato, pepper, melons, and pollinators. I'm growing sprouts indoors too. There's nothing like a fresh garden salad every day. I appreciate the DIY trellis tips too. Thanks CaliKim, I couldn't have done it without you!

First year gardening, and I am really excited. I'm most looking forward to teaching my toddler where food comes from, and instilling a love for vegitables. As far as what we are growing, I'm looking forward to tomatoes the most but I think my husband has his eyes on watermelon and greens. I learned how important it is to mulch in order to give the plants some extra protection. This sounds especially important here where the summers run well above 110 degrees.

    Just found your vids. They’re the best out of all instructional Utube vids because;
1.) no silly self aggrandizing super hyper intro graphics, with fireworks, flames, rockets, lightening... uhg.
2.) and because of what you’re lacking, (see above), a simple intro into the subject matter.
3.) easy to understand, clear demos,
    Thanks for the help.

Kim, thank you again for another wonderful video and generous opportunity. I learned that you can put cucumbers 2-3 inches apart in your containers! I was putting them way too far apart! We have such a small backyard with thin walkways as a 33 yr old with stage 4 spinal degeneration & 7 herniated discs in my thoracic and 3 in my lumbar gardening is really hard on my back but I LOVE the joy I get watching my plant babies grow & bloom and spending time with my mom as a mother daughter garden project. Having this elevated container would give us so much room to be able to grow more and not be so hard on my back! Thank you so much for always sharing. I always learn so much from you every time I watch your videos! Also leaned that we can start our basil in the milk carton 1/2! That’s awesome. Many Blessings!

I came upon your video by accident or maybe by someone's design as I had no intention of viewing a video about gardening at this time of the evening. However, after watching your video, I realized that it was divine intervention as it helped to push me from contemplating planting a raised bed to actually planning to make one. It also relaxed me before I embark on work-related tasks. You make gardening seem so easy and fun. I hope to have as much fun even if I end up killing a few plants in the process.

I was always so intimidated to start from seed but after a little research and watching your videos I realized there was nothing to be scared of. So I am excited to see how my success is this year with more plants. I am growing in smart pots and 2’ x 4’ a raised bed I built out of some leftover wood I had from a different project! Hi CaliKim! I tried posting this a couple of days ago, but the post immediately disappeared-maybe it’s too long lol? Trying one more time!
I’m a first-time gardener; we received a 5’x2’ raised bed planter for the holidays-best gift ever! My 4-year-old and I started our garden about a month ago (we live in Florida), and he has been so excited to watch everything grow! I knew nothing about gardening, so researched a little of square foot gardening since our growing space was so small and used that as an initial guide, but found you and your helpful and inspirational videos a couple of weeks ago and have been watching and learning everything we can ever since!
I wish I had found you sooner, as I now know some mistakes I made-for example, we direct-sowed everything and from you, learned that we could have planted the tomatoes deeper had we started them as seedlings indoors and transplanted, producing a more productive plant. I didn’t know about “tiny Tim’s” until finding you, which would have been a perfect variety for our small planter; we are growing the “chocolate cherry” variety.
I also didn’t realize how many fruit and vegetables could be grown vertically, creating more space and we erroneously planted a watermelon in the front of the raised bed! It’s such a small square (12” across x 9.5” down), we don’t know which kind of trellis would work that could fit and be strong enough to support the watermelon? The tomato plant described above is behind it and we don’t want to shade it out. Any suggestions? We are worried for it to hang over the planter, as it is 3ft off the ground and are worried that the vine may break? And don’t want to it to get powdery mildew, something else we learned from you!
Since watching your videos, we also learned how crucial thinning plants is; we are only 4weeks in, but I’ve thinned the seedlings, even though it broke my heart to do so. Your veggies look so healthy and bountiful so we are trying all of your suggestions! Our cut seedlings were added to our compost pile, which we also learned how to start from you!
From your suggestions, we have amended our soil with VermisTerra worm castings as a top-dress with amazing results (wish we had known prior to planting, as we would’ve added to the planting hole, but it’s a learning experience!).
We are most excited to harvest (although we’ve already started eating some of the mesclun lettuce, using the “cut and come again” method you’ve described), especially the cucumbers, tomatoes and watermelon (fortunately, it’s a “Sugar Baby”!) and hope, with all of your tips, it will be a great first one!
Our raised bed is quite small and we would love the opportunity to grow a few more veggies that our current space won’t allow and for our little one to have a growing patch all his own 🍓
Thank you for making gardening more approachable and successful for us novices and more experienced gardeners alike. We appreciate you, CaliKim!

Hi CaliKim! My 12 yr old son and I love watching your UA-cam videos during Covid! Honestly, I wasn't into planting veggies because I don't like dealing with bugs eating the leaves plus our yard is not that that big. However, watching all your videos on ideas of planting sugar baby watermelons and plants vertically, we were inspired! I love that you keep your videos real and don't hide the bad stuff like when your cantaloupe was eaten by rats! 😡😅 We are afraid that would happen to us too! My son just loved it when Camera man rolled his eyes when he asked you to try the cantaloupe first. We just started growing sugar baby watermelons and 8 sprouted! Yay! We get so excited everyday to check how many sprouted! 😂 We have such a great time watching your videos!
In this video, we learned that to save money on soil to put sticks, branches and leaves on the bottom layer of the garden bed. We loved how you made your vertical trellis using poultry wire! We will definitely try this! 👍 We were thinking of growing sugar snap peas, eggplants and thai chili using your method of trellis and the raised cloth bed.
I usually don't comment videos but my son encouraged me so that we can try for the raised garden bed sweepstakes. He says this would make a cool Mother's day gift for the both of us! 💕 Thank you for all you do! Hopefully, one day you will have a CaliKim garden farm so we can have a family outing. That would be so cool! 😊

The chicken wire and lumber pieces are so inexpensive, and assembling the trellis support looks like it would be so simple to do! I have a raised bed and I look forward to making use of that vertical space for more veggies this spring! I was completely unaware of fabric pots and look forward to adding some smart pots to my deck to add some flowers and veggies there!

I've learned so much from your videos! I never knew about the thrillers, fillers, and spillers concept before. I'm very excited to grow some beans, peas, peppers, and lettuce this spring! I made some grow light boxes for my lettuce so that I can grow them indoors and they are doing great. Thanks for all the tips and gardening lessons. I'm really enjoying growing my own food and learning new things in the garden!

This is my very first year gardening. Unfortunately in the past I've killed everything from cactus to pansies. Thanks to you I've learned about using grow boxes, fertilizing, watering from the bottom. It's amazing how far I've come now I've got over 93 seedlings and can't wait to get them out into the garden. 😂 Thanks so much for all your tips and advice.

Ive learned so much from you . I discovered your channel last year and you really inspired me to start gardening. Ive learned how to grow vegetables in small spaces, how to care for the plants before and after being transplanted. There are so many things I’ve learned from every single video. Thank you so much.

Hi Calikim - Yes; I am planting in raised beds due to my urban setting. I really enjoyed the thriller, filler and spiller concept and would not have considered this visually appealing and functional use of such a small space. Additionally, I would not have thought you could plant so intensively in a 2x4 raised space. Thank you for always opening my mind to new gardening concepts.

I've added raised beds to my garden this season and I'm so excited to start growing in them! It's just a bit too early to start planting outside in zone 5, so instead I've been planning what's going in each bed. This video is perfect timing for me with the "thrillers, fillers and spillers" concept. I'm looking forward to incorporating it into my plans. Thanks for a great and timely video!

I have learned so much from watching your videos and reading your book. My gardening fascination started with fruit trees and I was pretty disappointed that fruit trees take a few years to bare fruit so I tried vegetables for the first time last year. This is my first year growing in raised beds (last year I had 1 raised planter). Can’t wait to harvest my watermelon, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash. Also to my excitement, all of my fruit trees are growing fruit this year!

I've been following along the entire series. I am in a new home with nothing but 1/2 acres of grass! This year I decided to just plant veggies in smart pots and next year graduate to a raised bed system. I have learned so much from you. My seedlings are itching to get in the soil...about another week here until the last frost date. Thanks, CaliKim!!

I was so excited to see your video. My husband's family were vegetable farmers. My kids grew up teething on corn.and green peppers. After my husband passed away, the gardening ended. I have missed fresh vegetables so much that I thought I would try a raised garden. I love the fabric raised bed. I had never heard of it before. After watching your show, I know I can do it and manage it. Plus you explained it so well that I have the confidence to do it. Even if I don't win, Thank you!

I learned a lot about squash plants in this video, I learned that they don't like having their roots disturbed (I actually had to repot my squash plant 3 times, so now I know why it died on me) and I also learned that I can use squash plants as a "spiller". So I'm absolutely excited about growing them once again this spring and summer. Thank you.

Love love the idea of Smart Pots! So cool. I always used plastic containers, but now I've learned that 'breathable' pots like Smart Pots prevent roots from getting wound up and root bound. I learn something from Cali's channel each time I watch one of her videos. Thanks Cali!

Things I learned was always put new nutrients in your gardens soil to renew your garden soil after planting in your garden bed, put mulch on your garden beds to protect your plant from the cold or extreme heat and it helps with water evaporation. New things i am looking forward to in spring is growing different types of flowers and watching cali kim. I hope I win it will really benefit my new garden Cali kim.

Your videos are so inspiring! Since I’ve been tuning in, I’ve started seeds from your collections using indoor grow lights. I wasn’t sure how I was going to plant my seedlings once the last frost date passed but this video has certainly given me plenty of ideas and even more inspiration. I can’t wait to start making my own trellis for the cucumbers I’m growing. I also leaned a few ideas for companion planting. My basil seeds and tomatoes are just forming their true leaves and I’m super excited to learn they can be planted together in the same space. I have leaned so much from your videos. This is my first real attempt to grow more than just flowers and tomatoes. Hopefully I too will have green thumbs this year and a good harvest! Thank you so much!

I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
