Just starting my sock knitting journey- I am so happy that your treasure trove of techniques is still available❣️I am very grateful that you have posted so many wonderful tips and explanations. Thank you for continuing your UA-cam posts.
Thank you! I'm a perfectionist who has been increasingly frustrated with the asymmetry of my heel-flap selvedges. Understanding why there is asymmetry, and knowing that there are things I can do to mitigate it, comes as something of a relief.
I am absolutely blown away by your explanations. Who knew that you would have made a video discussing this issue, Roxanne!!! - OMG! Thank you for this.
I was having such problems with holes at the corner of the heel flap on a pair of socks I wanted to gift to someone, and using your first technique (the knitwise slip) made a HUGE difference. Thank you Roxanne!!!
I really like your explanation of heel flaps and I especially like the written out directions you provided. I think it would be nice if you have a printable instructions for it and the heel turn adjustments you are going to show in your next video. Thanks so much for providing interesting knitting minutiae that is often overlooked in “how to” videos.
I've been knitting socks for less than a year and always hated how the heel flaps edges looked, and I thought I was doing something wrong. Your video shows me why this happens, and how to "fix" it. Thanks so much!!
Thank you for sharing your trick for picking up the stitches. I always get holes along one of the pickup edges and it drives me crazy. So happy to have finally found a technique that eliminates them.
Thank you so much for this video, Roxanne! I've understood all l wanted to know and needed to know about heel flaps, heel turns and how to handle with all of the different heels of my friends to knit for them the exactest and best cmfortable knitted heels they can have! I knit for over about 40 yearf and all of a sudden l learn more about knitting while watching this short video! That striked me all of one single heep, how easy it is to make a heel fit so fantastic AND btw so nice l never thought a heel flap can look! I only knitted short row heels in all kinds and l was absolutely convinced to knit the best looking heels bevore and didn't want to give this kind of heel just a little try! Now l know l was kind of bigheaded in my mind. You turned my heel - world upside down! Thank you and please go on with your doing , there will be lots of persons you show the world has so many ways to be knitted around their feet over and over! Be blessed, dear, and stay healthy and nice as you are! I really love you for the kind way you show us all the little and big tricks and to solve our problems in knitting so easy and consistent nice! Whished to have had a mother of your character and if it were for only one day, it would have meant the world to me to be accepted asonecan feel you do with persons never looking around, just helping. Excuse me that this is so long, l had to write it to you for so long to thank you! l'm very ill, handicapped and all doctors told me l couldn't knit or use my hands as well but watching videos like this since 4,5 years (since that accidently happened during an OP in hospital) but l didn't give up - not me and not my will and not my hands. So after ca 1 year l began to write my name again and more over the years. Yes, watching your videos and some others gave me hope that once l could make it again. It's "only" knitting, but for me it's the world of healthiness in my mind and hands and so l thank you so much!!!) Be blessed and take care of yourself and others as long as as you live and make your fantastic videos. Please! Yours, Conny!
Dear Rox, what a wealth of information! Does this change the outcome to do Eye of Partridge for the heel flap on an even number of stitches, which has a tiny tweak, namely, the purl rows are always slip 1 as if to purl, purl across remaining stitches, but the knit rows alternate as slip 1 as if to purl, (Sl 1, K 1)* to end, with slip 1 as if to purl, (K 1, Sl 1)* to last 2 stitches, K 2
I feel like I made a mistake starting a intermediate pattern as 1st sock. Also 1st time using dpns. Im stuck at trying to pickup the heel sl STS. I can't tell which STS are the slipped ones as it's too tight on left side. Also pattern says pick up 14 sts on each side but theres about 18sts total. Can skip a few sts til I get 14 ? I don't want to follow pattern to a t for there to be a hole.
This is a question better suited for my Ravelry group, where we can more easily discuss the problem and solutions, share photos, etc. There's a link in the video description to the group.
I wouldn't expect you to have understood this video, if you have never knit a sock before. Start with a basic cuff down sock pattern (even just a tutorial that uses a small number of sts and worsted weight yarn) so that you can go through the process. Don't worry about making a sock that fits anyone the first time around, just focus on learning the different parts of the socks, and how one part transitions into the next.
Hello! I loved the video, thank you so much. I just have one question: I’m not clear on what you mean by slipping the first stitch knit-wise. Do you do this on every RS row of the heel flap and the WS of purl rows? Or do you just do it on the RS?
Thank you for the reference, now I can just come to this video for different options or I guess we could copy, paste and print each one if that is ok? Really appreciate this!
Apparently, you can't copy text from the UA-cam app on mobile devices without the use of a 3rd party app. So your options are to use a 3rd party app, do a screen shot, or copy down the instructions manually.
@@RoxanneRichardson Ok , thank you, I will try to see if I can take a picture of the instructions with my phone off of my computer and save it to notes or something. That way I will have it with me.
Dear Oksana, I wish I spoke Russian and could offer advice, but do the comments below the video help you at all? Are you on Ravelry? There is an amazing Russian sock knitter there who may be of help to you in Russian, that is skeincharmer. What Rox is explaining is extremely informative and I believe skeincharmer could help clarify since she has spoken about this similarly and could explain in Russian (though Rox's treatment is the most thorough of all).

Oh, Conny, I'm so happy this video has helped you so much. I wish you well with your health and your knitting. :-)
This is exactly the help I was looking for, thank you so much for such a thoroughly instructive video!
Your video is very helpful as always, thank you Rox.
FANTASTIC! Thank you so much for these options -- very useful information.
Thank you!
Can you show how to ladder down and fix a missed slip stitch while working this heel?

xraymdabm I, too, am interested in how this works for eye of the partridge heel, which is my favorite heel pattern.
I posted some charts and explanation in the Rox Rocks thread for this video.

I LOVE your technique videos. I feel SO lost cause I don't understand ANYTHING you just said. I want to knit socks but am scared. Where do I start?

I slip as if to knit on RS rows and as if to purl on WS rows when working heel flaps.

Yes, you can copy and paste for your own use. :-)
Roxanne Richardson I found that I could not copy and paste the text for the heel instructions on my iPad.

Чувствую, что интересные полезности, но из-за незнания английского языка- не поняла.
