£500 fine for having one bottle! That's crazy money now, never mind then
Crazy and abuse of the law on someone who probably was just getting by in life, I am all for the Poitin makers because my dear departed father and his young was a maker of very good Poitin
@@jamesbradshaw3389 I'm American is our Moonshine based on this Irish brew? Potatoes?
@@alanrogs3990my great-granpa in North Carolina made his shine from corn. It was for “personal consumption only” though. Wink wink.
@@alanrogs3990 the poitín was usually made from potatoes. Not sure what ye used over there. Varied in quality a n awful lot, was often very strong too.
Bit thick throwing the barrels into the sea Garda tho.
A total waste of good and pure poitin, I bet the local fish were floating on their backs for days after this spill
they were fished out and consumed 😂
8 gallons of poteen an extensive dealer, gets fined 1,000 pounds ,,,,another man with one bottle 500 pounds , that’s a very Irish verdict
Down with this sort of thing
Careful now
Great memories making this stuff with my dad in the 80s. Every Friday we'd make a delivery of the spirit to a distributor. Usually a few 5 gallon drums. I bottled it for him & sterilised the empty bottles. We got raided & got a slap on the wrist so we were back in business within a fortnight but the still was hidden better & the next raid was unsuccessful for the cops. Great days.
In this video they made it look like this stuff was made in rusted out old barrels and very dirty conditions.
@@alanrogs3990 We made ours in very hygienic conditions. Mum was a nurse so she supervised hygiene. When caught the cops sent a sample for analysis & it was found to be of high quality & free of harmful impurities.
Holding 8 gallons is considered an "extensive dealer?" LOL
If you ever drank Poitin you'd know why. 😅
Good to see the Gardai weren't always afraid to go after the real hardcore criminal element in Ireland.
You got that right, that was the height of the Gardai work in those days, chasing after a few Poteen makers who outsmarted them most of the time
€500 for having a bottle, €0.00 for littering when the guards dump 45 gallon drums into the sea 😂😂😂
That judge is dying for a sup.
he probble has a little bottle in his pocket for daily use, to ease his aching bones
Now they won't even go after heroin dealers 😢
that is called laziness or being frightened
Especially if they are imported peoples
@@alanrogs3990beat me to it. They don't want to be called raaacist.
A friend of my father made this. The cops raided him & the senior policeman introduced the search team. One female cop was a big heap. My father's friend replied that she didn't think she was The Rose of Tralee 😂
My mother used to get a bottle of prime holy water in exchange for Holly at Christmas from two guards in that area! They always had the best stuff kept!😊
We used to call poitin "holy water " 😅 .
When a friend would visit family in Ireland she’d always come back to Colorado with a bunch of those plastic bottles shaped like the Virgin Mary, each one filled with poitin. One time a customs agent asked her why she had all those bottles. She replied, “Oh, that’s holy water from Knock for my friends who are ill.” He let right through.
The crime was no cut of the profits

As Poitin make for days gone by, I refuse to disagree with you
RTE leading the narrative even then...first guard speaking... mentioned the magic word....revenue
I used to have records but I gave up keeping track of them years ago
"So you have seen Poitin break up homes, get people into very serious financial difficulties and even die" Wow, Poitin sounds just as terrible as taxed alcohol, only cheaper.
Someone needs to tell Blindboy Boatclub about this; he'll lose his shit.
bad old Blindbo, I could tell him stories about Poitin making that would make his hair curl
It makes me cry and tear my hair out to see that poitin poured out and flowing down the ditch. What a waste! Oh the humanity!
The Gardaí, making Irish lives harder, 8 gallons at a time
This was shown before
Should never be drank in moderation
Correct, and don't smoke for safety reasosn
Tea Drinking DOO gooders..... :) cheers...
Great Irish movie fron 1970's called Poitin
😢😢
Ah yes. We can't tax it. That's the crux of the matter.
Oh no..
What a waste, this was a crime committed by those boys in blue with clean new white shirt and ties
❤❤❤❤
Different times and attitudes back then
Enough of that sort of thing now.
The full RIGOR of the law
Revenue collectors as usual ,they’ve gone on to speed vans these days .,they always recruit the odd balls.
Slaintè.....🇮🇪
because it affects revenue 😂😂😂😂😂
DRINK FECH GIRLS GRRRRRRRR 😅😅

Jeez...the guards were always a shower of conts
