If you ask me,they were a bit too efficient at finding the booze. Got me thinking that they may well have had a grass or two giving them the information. These men in uniform although abhorrent in my eyes, were following their law,and are way down the pecking list of people that are scum. I would also hazard a guess that the ones feeding them the information were rival gangs. At the end of the day,the biggest criminals are the government themselves.
I'm not arguing about their mission but to see them just throwing barrels in the water adding to whatever trash is already there is just not right. If they are going to get rid of this stuff they should have a means to load it and take to a proper dump site.
To do it properly would cost too much. You are looking at few guys in cheapo boat without gloves or masks, just small axe and determination. Sure they could order large specialised container ship, 10armed guards, and 10people to carry all the camp crap away only to defeat people that spend few bucks and will rebuild that in few weeks time. Then have recycling team waiting with some specialist to determine what is in each barrel. But is that reasonable when they need to do hundreds of these on tiny budget while being pretty confident that it is just stuff needed to make alcohol... If they spend weeks going back and forth with like 1 barrel at a time(they barelly fit in that cheapo boat even without it), they will just get shot by the criminals. It is already admirable how much risk do they take here. We are talking about time when people were skinning each other alive just to have fun, now only few gangs do that, not even ISIS does the shit that was common 35 years ago. 4police officers with only pistols, and they have hands full of barrels n shit? That is easy target. Man with knife is dangerous but irish men in that year had rifles and submachine guns... Both hunting and from ww2. Especially as criminal you would have your hands on few of those. So what they wanted is to quickly damage their operation and fuck off (hit and run) not to engage in gunfight and long recycling action. Btw those barrels were made only from natural materials and in vegan friendly way.
The guards seem to have an uncanny knack for finding buried gas cylinder and such.. Its like they knew where they were... they look like lads who couldn't find their arsehole with both hands... apart from this stunning display of detective work. Also was the Garda station situated on a travellers camp...?

Upon further viewing, I believe these stills were the sacrificial lambs for hiding the other stills. It was all about optics even back then.

No doubt about it.
