So proud to be a nova scotian after seeing this ❤
Projects like are hard to make happen with all the government construction laws, and the useless inspectors that come with it.
If earthbag homes are ok in California this would pass
There are articles talking about how it passed all kinds of fire codes etc.
Its beautiful. This should be the standard in housing
This is excellent.
I wonder if there is any out-gassing from the plastic foam ?
Great question..I was wondering also about Cancer agents from the plastic heating up. This house might just be too Dangerous to live in
@@roblo6129 Meanwhile there is plastic in most everything you eat and drink!!

This is why I've been a proponent of using recycling in our economy, we have so much of it lying around in landfills and nothing is being done with it. This has the potential to maximize the profit of real estate developers while lowering home prices at the same time. That's a win for the company and a win for the consumer.
True
instead of whining on the internet why dont you actually do something for the environment?
Recycled plastic is expensiv3
@@blob5907 small changes are what help. I haven't drank water from a plastic bottle in like 5 years for instance
It’s also the first house to have 600,000 different pairs of lips to touch it
Lol
No I don't think so.. my ex wife's house has more lol.
Blake MacDonald you make it sound sexy.
Lol. I cant sleep now that you mentioned this.
😂😂
That is awesome , I had my wooden deck replaced with the deck boards that are made from recycled bottles!! No more yearly painting of the deck. Seeing an entire house made from them is fantastic. I would love one of those. The boards were more expensive than wood 6 years ago, I wonder how much that home would cost.
Cool, and in some years your plastic deck will degrade from being exposed to the elements and all that plastic will seep back into nature and pollute it
No mention of price. How much did the house cost to build?
Is the material strong enough to build a 2 story home?
I would want to go a bit further and make some Decking and
Fence Panels. Hats off to these guys!
It must be expensive or people would stop spending 3 months building homes and take 14h instead
Ian I watched this on TV, they said 450,000 for that location.
😅😂🤣😅😂🤣
Well if 612,000 pop bottles are 5 cents each. Bottles alone would be 153,000 dollars lol.
5 cents each, not 25 cents. It would be 30.600 in returnables
They need to model the chimney to look like a straw, just because lol
Incredible work! And Canada's first!
I want one? Nice build! I’m impressed
I ask myself that question everyday ..” what are my kids going to see this earth as when they are 25-30 years old “
What a great idea! How much does it cost to build the house?
Does it gas off like formaldehyde...? This is a great idea...., especially for little homes.
You two anchors are in love with each other... ❤️❤️❤️
Well done, is this the answer? Now figure out what to do with all the other unwanted plastic items! I love this
Absolutely amazing.
Can it be made from a drink box water bottle sort of thing? Plastics are just the worst you know.
@Kata List Productions It's a Trudeau joke.
Couldn't finish first sentence without laughing. "Drink box water" bwahahahahah.
That's as far as I got before a big belly laugh.

I wonder how resistant it would be to storms and high winds?
It's cool....near my childhood home! ^5s!
which company recycles the plastic bottles into PET and then into foam boards?
How much does it cost to build the house ?
Excellent.
Bravo guys!
Great work 👏👏
How will it hold up to extreme weather conditions or fires? It's great to talk about recycling things but that's just one aspect.
I was just wondering that. Plastic is toxic when it's burning. A house fire would not be survivable due to the fumes.
@@CroneLife1 so i have to wonder how exactly does a stick framed home hold up to fire??
@@keithforbes8482 , doesn't matter how it holds up if you're dead inside it from the fumes from heated plastics.
CroneLife I suspect that your concerns have already been addressed. Just as asbestos is being corrected now. While you might complain about governmental interference, these laws do consider safety hazards.
CroneLife So why did local codes ok this project to be built?
That’s definitely what I’d do when I grow up
We have the same idea😳
Great home.
Tell me, what is the name of the company from which I can buy this plastic?
Something positive. I like it.
Wow! COOL!
I was looking for one to advise Ottawa City Council for recycling plastic
What is the cost for pne house
Great idea
That could be an excellent way to recycle all the plastic, even providing homes for the homeless.
Yes. The tough part will be coming up with the $400K so the homeless can buy that home.
@@JohnBowl14690 : hahahaha! A "recycled home" should be designed to cost a whole lot less!
wow its so nice
WTF!!!!Why is this not happening ????Why is this not being used everywhere??that is amazing 14hrs!!!
I like it but is it safe? Isn't it a fire hazard?
I want to do that!
It is brilliant and awesome but... how much did it cost. I though they might have included that..
600,000 X .75cents (retail price of ea. bottle) = 450,000 CAD $
@@lucrativelyrics2004 : they are not buying plastic bottles. They are recycling used bottles which do NOT cost 75 cents each. They are free or a quoted price of 5 cents each.
How much does one of these houses cost?
How can get the service to tanzania
This is super news!! Now imagine turning 1 of those into an Earthship to REALLY dial up the sustainability game!! Amazing.
imagine they could turn plastic into a fuel!!
oh, wait. it happened iin 2013, but, the news didnt tell you.
Every house should be made of this!
All of that wastage in other countries should be turned into houses and prosthetic limbs and things that need
I want one.
That's amazing
Amazing
What's the cost of one of these homes
Sounds great but what in the case of fire" i know what a plastic pop bottle in the fire pit looks and smells like .would it not be toxic?
If.
Honda, agree 100%!
CRAP I WAS LOOKING FOR THE POP BOTTLES LOL
imagine a world where giant ships troll the oceans collecting plastic waste from the water then melt it into plastic pellets
Beautiful visual 😍
How you get those at the bodem of ocean?
Quick
Make a house out of straws
Lol
congratulation
Cost Cost Cost??
Hope it never catches fire. It would be ONE NASTY TOXIC CLOUD. Other than that , 👍👍👍👍
just look around your home, how much plastic do you have? and it is not recycled, therefor toxic. I hope your home doesn't catch fire, but if it would it would be probably a bigger toxic cloud since all of the plastic has not been recycled etc.
@@xywa23 I'm not knockin the idea. I live OFF GRID and I definitely love REPURPOSED materials mainly because they are free.
What a Newfie.
Step one is have money, a lot of it, and a team lol.
So this is a marketing commercial. He didn't build it out of plastic bottles, it was melted plastic molds. A little misleading
Structural Insulated Panels have been around for some time , however PET it is a first
I thought there was one made years ago with glass bottles?
Mike C, yes lots of houses have been made with recycled glass bottles, beer cans, plastic bottles and mud and so forth. Just not used very often in "advanced" countries due to building codes etc. But they should be.
What about the extreme weather conditions? Will it stand it?
Its in nova scotia i live the and it will be windy by the ocean but he should be ok
They took the idea from Colombia, They have been doing the same type of construction long before.
Im in Colombia now developing
You took all those bottles out of the recycling system, now 600,000 new plastic bottles have to be produced to replace them. I think you misunderstand the word “recycle”. If the system were to work the way it was intended to work, and every pop bottle was melted and turned into a new bottle or similar package, we might be able to clean up the mess. If you really are intent on virtue signalling, you should use only bottles that weren’t put into the recycling system. What you did was no different than buying clothes from a Goodwill store, and turning them into high end designer wear.
I see what you’re saying. They should have used plastic from the oceans instead, but 600,000 bottles don’t have to be produced. We don’t need to replace them. We need to stop using them.
What is the supply of recycled bottles? How many houses can be built? If plastic homes have the stated advantage and if the recycled supply becomes limiting, we'll use new plastic.
This might actually make it ok for people to justify using plastic bottles, hey afterall we can build these neat houses out of them.
Unfortunately a lot of recycling places no longer accept bottles. Here at out local dump you have to pay to leave it in the recycle bin and the city stopped picking up recycle items. It a shame, and I imagine the price of recycled plastic items will increase as well.
But; I like sky lights!
Seen resin, iso foam and fiberglass material no pop bottles
I want to do this
Neat!
No I'm Nigeria they build houses out of plastic bottles. Recycling, stronger, and cheaper
Hope this becomes more and more able to be done. Would build houses and use up so much plastic waste!
It's never been done before because it doesn't make any sense.
Plastic bottles are already being recycled to make a variety of different things, finding a new use for discarded plastic bottles is not necessary.
Traditional construction materials are still the best option.
Wood is a nice renewable resource, for example.
Lol 😂 the dude’s accent
Trudeau "We are going to ban single use plastics"
Flammable? That could be a problem ...
No not much more flammable then wood and with addition of some minor chems even more fireproof.
That house sitting there on a beach made out of 600,000 plastic bottles is the same as 600,000 plastic bottles all piled up in one pile. If you think about it is there any recycling there
LDG: Yes, this is "recycling" because the bottles are being USED. Not littering the landscape and choking out nature.
But how do you drink out of it now?
That's like $60k in bottles. It's more expensive than regular materials.
Hasn't anyone thought of, ohhh I don't know, making new pop bottles out of the plastic?
That and the energy usage and environmental impact of the recycling process it's self has to be accounted for. Just ask China.
That's $60K if you were to go with the recycle cost. If you or I were to save 600k water bottles, it would likely cost closer to $600k. It's still a better use of bottles than throwing them in the ocean.
Great story, now let's see if this catches on worldwide
Or you could just use wood?
Fernd healthier and at a lower cost, wood can also be repurposed.
You mean fiberglass and GP resin
If there was a cheap way to manufacture these homes I bet the price would drop drastically.
The thing is housing speculation and landlords are the problem
since plastic comes from recycled waste, I wonder what is the cost? I bet it cost close to prefab house price. ?
I'll bet it costs twice as much per square foot as a regular house.
It cost waaay less in “earth” dollars 💸
If painting your walls the chemicals take years to evaporate or what have you I wonder how many chemicals are in the air around this house when the sun's blaring down day after day
Perhaps this home can also be recycled...one day.
The first in NS does not equate to the first in the world. Other countries have had houses made out of recycled plastic for at least 10 years now.
This the solution to our plastic problem. The governments if the world need to invest and give tax breaks to companies that build this way. Along with discontinued plastic manufacturing, we could use up the plastic thats clogging the oceans and waterways of the world...I wonder abt the off-gassing though...
he gets a house, you get dentist bills.
$30,000 dollars for 600,000 pop bottles at .05 cent deposit
Me 🧐, Who’s Next. Plastic House Build.
Not entirely unique. Based on the the earth ship model which has been around for "many" years. Designed by Michael Reynolds. Earth ships were truly revolutionary and now someone calls it a new idea , , , give me a break. Although new twist , processing the bottles and adding airecrete is cool but once again we are complicating a simple idea and adding to the carbon footprint of manufacturing.
I'm using old Styrofoam for insulation too
To bad that house is built next to if not on an old landfill site. If you walk down the beach that is shown at 1 minute 11 seconds just a few hundred yards erosion is exposing this landfill and that local municipal government is doing nothing at all to fix it
And if it catches fire? Say by arson..That's gonna be one bad stink.!
Please, inventor, I’m begging you, build a business and a team and go global, start building these and sell them, you’ll become a millionaire and you’ll help clean up our oceans, like the news anchor said “this is one of its first” YOUR FIRST, Make it millions instead whilst eating millions. We haven’t got long until we can no longer turn back due to the destruction humans have caused to our world and sea life.
*Where is Elon Musk for this?*
