  • A floating artificial island built in Mexico by British artist Richart "Rishi" Sowa. He's first Island was destroyed by a hurricane in 2005; a replacement, Joyxee Island, has been open for tours since 2008.
    In the waters of Isla Mujeres, the "Island of Women", near Cancun. It opened for tours in August, 2008.
    The new island was initially 20 metres (66 ft) in diameter, which has since expanded to 25 metres (82 ft), and plants and mangroves are already growing on it. It contains about 100,000 bottles. The new island has three beaches, a house, two ponds, a solar-powered waterfall and river, a wave-powered washing machine and solar panels. Volunteers helped with the project. Sowa will continue to make improvements to the Island, so it will always be a work of art in progress.

      Sam kogan I like being useful - like a cog in a machine.
      You be a free rock rolling downhill if you wish, I'd rather be a part of the engine driving up.

    • @samekogan
      @samekogan 7 років тому +81

      +Xaiano I just don't think you understand nor see the brilliant resourcefulness this man posses. you think you're headed up the hill? this guy has shit figured out once the engine breaks down and causes your vehicle to roll down backwards. this is using his surroundings to its fullest and finest. if you can't see that now then maybe you never will and that's fine. but it's amazing that you cant.

    • @xaiano794
      @xaiano794 7 років тому +11

      Sam kogan Don't you see the folly in your own statement? You say 'once it breaks down' - and go on to state that it is THEN that his work would surpass my 'machine', but that statement infers that PRIOR to it breaking down, my 'machine' is most definitely superior and furthermore that there is only a chance of it failing at some unspecified point in the future.
      Therefore, given a choice between guaranteed inferiority now, or possible inferiority after an uncertain amount of time, it is obvious that your 'free person' is always the lesser choice.

He built his own island with nature in his best interest, how many of you have done that? Second, he's going to focus on the positivity like he said, so any negative comments aren't a true reflection of him, but a reflection of you. Free your mind, stop being a slave to what others think, and life will be so much different.

    He'd get about 10 minutes on his Island in the U.S. before some environmental agency would put an end to it. What he needs is a grant to go to the middle of the Paciific (the garbage patch), and build there were materials would never be a problem. Perhaps semi melt the plastic into float able cubes in a form design to interlock. He would have enough material to build his own floating continent. People could volunteer to assist in the cleanup/build as a vacation spot in the South Seas on a budget.

      You are completely wrong! For everyone saying that this man is a genus, solved mankind's problem for a sustainable development, or that he is making huge leaps forward in to our future...... you're completely wrong.
      What is sustainable about having a house made of "PLASTIC" and "Garbage". Did you guys not go to school? Garbage in our ocean is not sustainable, but in fact destroys our environment, the worst being PLASTIC! It slowly disintegrates in to microscopic pieces of plastic, which fish then eat/breath/absorb and it is one of the worst problems we have with our ocean right now. You do not want plastic in our water guys!!!! How is everyone so blind?
      Yeah it looked cool..... Don't be fooled by the visual aesthetics, this place is horrible for the environment and everyone who thinks this is a "Genius" idea, is either blind, ignorant, voted for Trump, or perhaps all of the above. Open Your Eyes people!

Second, the energy conglomerates wouldn't tolerate his not hooking up to their "service". Then the Department of Homeland "Security" (ha ha) would label him as a "Domestic Terrorist" for living off grid and haul him off to a FEMA Concentration Camp........
    Oh, the dream of freedom........ None here in he U.S.A. any more.

      Enough knocking the USA, there are a hundred other countries that would not permit this. However, I predict, within the next 30 years, many of those same countries will consider this. Science has ALWAYS been ahead of government. ALWAYS.

      PaidRussianTroll I am an American citizen. I'm simply pointing out the loss of freedom here, along with the corruption in which such unreasonable restrictions are allowed to flourish. As an American citizen, it is my Civic DUTY to point out these things so maybe the sheeple will get off their complacent asses and stop it.

      Jojo Bag Serious changes may be coming to the USA, and sooner than many may think.
      Many people have had enough of the corruption and cronyism of all levels of the current government. Changes will be made, including American troops being brought home instead of being sent out, after being lied to, to do the dirty work for the international bankers.

      Kevin S You Russian paid trolls are everywhere. This is a video about a man living in an alternative living environment. The video has nothing to do with Putler and the invasion of Ukraine, nor the devaluation of the Ruble, nor the collapse of the Russian economy, nor the unsolved murders of the free press reporters in Russia. If you want to discuss these issues or any other issue other than this man and his island, go to video about those issues.

    he sounds like a hippie but all his understandings about climate, temperature, sunlight, soil-making, waves, are all spot on.
    maybe not the flying island part, that part was too crazy :p

    • @laggedoff

      I'm not sure he meant a literal giant tornado. But the flight was more or less a joke, unless he was speaking of little gliding with a light enough island, and enough lift, it'd be more like a hop than a flight.
      but making your own tornado is entirely possible if you set it up correctly, as hot air rises rapidly, cold air will rush in, the trick to making your own mini-tornado is finding a method to control how the cold air flows down again.
      the hot air would have to be REALLY hot however.

      he IS a hippy and why do you assume a generall hippie is irrational? hippies are very rational. a hippy is just someone who believes in love, acceptance, tolerance, peace. Most hippies get that believe from lsd and well I can guarantee you that this man had lsd at least once aswell. If you once had lsd you just see who had the universal understanding, and he has it.

      Donald Trump: Nah he's doing something beautiful but in the end utterly useless so much so that he's going wacko about floating cities. This guy just got unlucky he's got the skill and thus the ability to vibe with a team in a very personal and hands-on way, it is a joy for subordinate foreman's, to work with him, in fields that include concepts of agriculture, plumbing, water, lighting which are original not in books and school since custom built for water but more importantly eco-preservation. If I where an engineer I'd love to work with him. In China this guys creativity could be appreciated with the might of China's construction, Mao knows what eco and community friendly concepts he'll create. Boooom Trump 2015!
