Wow! After 30 different iterations of wireless microphones, manufacturers have finally realized that constantly taking off and putting on a windmuff can be annoying.
great comprehensive video. I like how it the Mini isn't really a downgrade from the 2. They focus on different use cases and benefits. The extra battery life lessens the need for a second TX. If you don't need on-mic internal recording for post production, the Mini is a no brainer. I do wish the Mini 1TX/1RX option came with a charging case instead of a dock
Having had and used the DJI Mic 2 since it came out, making several videos on feature and flaws (no backup recording while connected via bluetooth to smartphones being the big one, since you can’t then bring just the mic and a phone and record a crappy bt audio track to your video and easily sync and replace it with a decent internal recording later) the Dji Mic Mini is probably the version most people should get, unless one REALLY needs the internal backup recording done internally on the Dji Mic 2’s (most people don’t need it for hobby video, necessary for «pro» use/paid productions). The bluetooth option is unusable anyway on both versions, and *most* people don’t need the 32 bit float quality of the internal dji mic 2 recordings unless they are recording in conditions where audio levels might go from normal to REALLY LOUD (i.e. during football matches or other sporting events, interviewing really exited people or recording audio from speakers who talk *really* loud at times, but then fluctuates between loud and normal volumes). However: if one has a older iphone (with lightning), use a thick case on their phone, or use an android without usb c the Mini is not a really good option, and not the mic 2 either :/
I just recently purchased the Mic Mini. So many tell of how it is lacking some of the big features of thew Mic 2. The reason I decided to go with the Mini was its simplicity. I was looking for a setup that would make run-n-gun recording much more simple. It is compact and yet the sound is great. I am getting ready to edit my first video using the Mini. I wound up using both since when I first started production I had not received the Mini yet. From what I can hear on the clips I used it for, the sound is great. I even found that I can have the receiver attached to my DSLR camera while on the gimble without it affecting the balance.
I never found myself saying about any nice I'm using....I wish I had something smaller. 😂 I'll have to see what you say but man we can't keep buying the latest and greatest there is so much more to life than that. Thankfully you get them free. 😊
It looks like a great mic for someone who needs something small and compact, or on a budget. Nice review Aldryn, you really covered everything. Thanks for sharing.
Great review of the DJI Mike Mini. I'm really impressed with the size and weight of the microphone, as well as the battery life and range. I'm also interested in the audio quality, especially when using the noise-cancellation feature. Thanks for the review!"
There is talk that when using Bluetooth, the digital sampling rate is slashed from 48k to down to only 16k. That would mean that any audio frequencies about 8k are cut off. When switching back to 2.4ghz transmission, the sampling rate jumps back to 48k. Have you heard this yet?
very good review and detailed testing, i am already convince and i ordered one today 2tx & 1rx combo, this will be a perfect companion for my osmo action 5 pro ❤️
I’m thinking to buy one of these - just the mic, without the receiver - to connect to my Action 5 Pro via Bluetooth. Will I still be able to adjust gain and low pass filter in the app WITHOUT the receiver?
I just got the combo pack, and the single in arctic White. I have the $350 Mic 2 system, but My main focus will be the Hollyland Lark 2 vs the mic mini1. I just got into the Lark system 2 weeks ago and love it, so I am super curious about this.
I am actually stuck choosing between these two. Could you please share when you actually have benefits of using Mic 2 vs Mini. How often you'd need internal storage? I can olse see that Mic two has more applications especially for professional recording, as you can use lav mic with it.
Great review... you were very thorough with all the important things. But do you know if there is a pass through audio while it's plugged in (hearing the audio for playback from the recorded video)?
Nice mic, however other than the bluetooth feature, I don't see any big difference between this one and the Lark M2. Why is it that in some cases the left channel is stronger than the right?
at 9:04 in the active noise cancelling, it sounds like you are talking with a cold or something. But pretty awesome it can cut down that much of the noise
Can you mix and match mics. What I mean is if you have a pocket 3 or Osmo action 5 pro could you connect a mic mini to one connection and a mic2 to the other at the same time? Just want to also add that I love your channel and reviews. Every time a new device comes out I come right to your channel for your easy explanations of what the devices can do.
I wonder how this will compare to the Rode ME. I’m also surprised they don’t sell a set with one white and one black mic. It seems like the white version was created specifically for wedding videographers, but with these options you’d have to buy an extra mic if you wanted two colors and a case.
thanks for the video. in osmo poket 3 can it record a separate audio track from the video itself? Or can you only record audio over the video? I'm interested in knowing if I can edit the microphone audio in post-production.
Thanks for the video. Another fantastic technical review. As a conclusion if you were choosing which bundle to buy, the new mic mini set or the mic 2 set. Obviously they are a different price but which has the best audio quality? I respect and value your expertise and opinions so that’s the reason for my question. Thanks in advance.
@@anyjimblogs quality is about to r same on both. Because I do some client gigs and use my Sony most of the time m, I need the internal storage and 32bit that the mic 2 has. So I would personally go that route for my situation. But if you just want to use it for the pocket or action 5, I’d get the mic mini.
@ thanks. I’m a big fan of DJI products and have purchased several. The quality and value is amazing IMO. I do wish DJI would sell the mic set but with 1 white and 1 black transmitter. I need the set but want a white transmitter for light clothing. Bummer.
the Mic 2 uses “intelligent noise canceling,” whereas the Mic Mini has two-level noise canceling. The Mic 2 is to strip away more ambient sound than the Mic Mini. the Mic 2 also has internal storage which the mini does not. I see no reason to upgrade and would still purchase the Mic 2 over the Mini.
Very detailed. To the point I was slightly annoyed with how in depth you went. 😂 first time that has ever happened but I see it as a good thing. You gave me more than I even thought I would have needed. Might be the best review video I’ve ever seen. Great job. #Sub
Aldryn, I really liked your video. I have a question about the Mic Mini versus the Mic 2. Can audio be captured on the Mini without being connected to a camera or laptop? Can the Mic Mini be connected to an Osmo Action 1 via the USB C socket?
Great video, very useful! One Q… can you use the MINI mic as a remote control or remote trigger for Osmo Pocket 3? E.g. on the mic 2 you can use the buttons to start recording from a distance. Thanks!
I plan to purchase the action 5 and this mic mini. I use quick capture on my gopro so i assume it will be pretty much the same on the action 5 (1 press to start recording and 1 press to stop recording). Now lets say i pair the action 5 and the mic mini. If i turn off the camera after recording and maybe after an hour or 2 record again, will the mic mini be still active or go to sleep mode? If in sleep mode, will the action 5 "wake up" the mini and start recording automatically?
14:30 it works but IMO it's unusable. Lots of audio dropouts and glitch, low sample rate. Better using its receiver when connected to smartphone. Overall the mic sounds good, the range is more than enough! Great and detailed review!
Ya when connected to the phone without a receiver the audio is rough. With the receiver it's crispy. Also, when connect via OsmoAudio (bluetooth) to the DJI cameras, the mics sounds really good.
Thanks for the video. It's interesting to be able to connect the mini mic to the phone without a receiver, but... if I only want to record audio, black magic won't let me, it forces me to record video as well. Do you know another application that only records audio and recognizes the dji mic mini? Thank you.
When you are pairing the mic 2 or the mic mini to the action 5 or the pocket 3, is it done via a full bandwidth receiver or only by Bluetooth which would therefore limit the audio quality compared to the receiver, or not?
Every time I watch one of your videos my wish list get longer🤣 Great review👍
lol

I wear my windmuff 24/7/365 days a year. 🤗
Deadcat people. Keep the deadcat saying alive! 😂
Do you need to buy the mic mini charging case, or can you use the mic 2 box to charge
@@jnrmack When you buy just the Mic Mini, it comes with its own little charger. The charger from Mic 2 won’t work for the Mini.
Thank you for such a comprehensive review!!

Great review 🏆. It’s impressive for its size but I’m happy with my Mic 2 set.
✌️😎
Great compression, Looks like i will go with the Mic Mini, very helpful keep up
Ok, I am super convinced in buying one after just one video. thanks a lot
Same lol
Dose dji mic mini receiver work with dji mic 2 ?
+6 Gain seems to be the sweet spot for the iPhone. I use that on my DJI Mic 1 too.
Yes, 0 or +6 is the way to go

Yeah, the smaller size definitely helps!
The BT transmission audio quality isn't great. Sounds processed and cuts in and out. The Basic Noise Cancelling is impressive though.
Very very detailed review 👌 extensive testing for all of us “general” users. Excellent work. Thanks
