When guys complain about the weight of a weapon, I kinda chuckle. I carried a M203 Grenade Launcher through the field while a grunt in the Marines. Try lugging that thing up and down hills and mountains all over the South Pacific. This civilian stuff is child's play to lug around.
@@Scott67 There is definitely some sound logic to that suggestion but using a weapon for home defense compared to combat kinda nulls the suggestion. In a home enviroment, you are not going to be lugging your weapon around for hours at a time. If a situation arises where you need to use it, that usage is going to be quick and over with rather fast. I have NEVER seen a bad guy try to break into a house, hear gunshots (or see a weapon), and then go into standoff mode with the home owner. The bad guys are usually tripping over each other trying to get the hell out of there. I love watching those videos! Now on a hunting weapon, that point is a LOT more of something to consider because you may have to lug your weapon around for quite awhile. Weight equals fatigue in that situation so that would definitely be something to consider. But with home defense, I am more concerned with accuracy/quality of the equipment I am using instead of wieght. I won't need to hold on to it for long. The bad guys are going to be dead or gone in short order. 😉
You don’t need a wrench or socket. I own one of these and if you look on the nut there’s a small hole. I just stick a Allen key in the hole and torque it down snug. So far it’s held zero and I haven’t had any issues. Just a tip.
@@donniejackson9328 I didn't think about the weight back when I bought it. It's still a good red/green dot. The Stribog has been good, thanks for asking.
@@KevinSmith-tp8sq Before making the video I had a smaller and more expensive red dot on the firearm. So when I put the Vortex on it is when I noticed the weight. It's still a good red dot. Thanks for the comment.
Picked one up for $130 today at my LGS, they have Memorial Day tent sale every year. I'm stoked, thinking about getting another one to sit on. 😆 Looked on PSA and they're claiming sell price at $199 and Amazon the same price...
For the price it’s not worth it. $199 currently. It’s old tech at this point. Better options in this price range. If you already own one or can buy one used at a deep discount there’s nothing wrong with it.
They're pretty bulky and heavy combined with a magnifier. I got mine in 2014 and there are better lighter options out there now like md25 with acss reticle.
I just purchased this and a AT3 Tactical LEOS Red Dot with integrated laser. I'm asking many here on different channels what THEY Would use first on a M&P Sport II Optics ready AR15..223/556 and why?
The reviews alone tell me to go with the Vortex. With that said the big complaint about the AT3 is the laser won't hold zero and trust me I have tried many a lasers not listening to the reviews and turns out they were right. Both of these are not light compared to todays standard but the Vortex is a little lighter at 7.2 oz. My Vortex has been on a handful of rifles and I can tell you it just works well. Good luck with both.
Considering the sports are very cheap AR’s I’d go with a vortex . Why put an optic on a gun that’s worth less than the optic itself ? Not saying the sports are bad rifles , they’re just budget . You’d have a great budget combo that would last a lifetime with the vortex .
I think on a full sized AR the weight won't be as much of a issue. Just ordered one and this video helped reassure me that I made the right choice.
Glad to hear.

Thank you for your service. Knowing what you know now, wouldn't you agree that keeping things as light as possible is the way to go?

I run one of these on my smith m&p. Works fine, it's my "budget " rifle and I had alot of fun building it

How's it Holding up??

I don’t mind the weight. I like the Aimpoint style red dots anyway.
The gun I used that day used to have a Holosun 407 on it. So after swapping it out is when I noticed the weight.

Would you suggest this over a romeo 5 for the same price point? Psa has them on sale for pretty mch the same price as the sig
