- West Chicago Railfanning
Recorded on 6/16/20 from 6:15am-4:11pm
We’ve returned to another railfan hotspot for trains. From Franklin Park on the CP Elgin Subdivision, we head on over to the Union Pacific Geneva Subdivision in West Chicago, IL. Almost one year ago, the largest steam locomotive in the world, Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 made the trip to this exact spot. While we may not be a steam special, we had a busy productive day. We were put to work right away as trains on the CN and the UP passing by J.B. Tower in West Chicago. The weather was very nice and warm outside and we enjoyed it while staying hydrated at the same time. Coming up next, we visit Lemont, IL on the BNSF Chillicothe Subdivision. Enjoy the full coverage from West Chicago!

Very good indeed I made sure I saved every video
Awesome Video
Great video track side at West Chicago, Illinois, Andrew! You had lots of action on the 16th of June 2020. Thank you for putting this video together and sharing it with us!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Awesome video, Andrew! See you on Friday!
Wow awesome vid. Lots of DPU's and alot of different power on UP and CN. Favorite Train is at 19:40. Love that AC6000CW or a rebuild AC6000CW and that train at 19:40 was going fast over that junction at the end.
Thank you!
nice video
Thank you!
I like the clacking at speed going on here.
It's interesting how these diamonds have not yet been replaced with flange bearing ones. Is it perhaps because both lines curve nearby, making the speeds slower?
Quite a few mainline diamonds have been replaced with OWLS or full flange bearing ones in the near past.
My dad works at West Chicago
This video is my favorite 😁
Thank you!
If you put it to 2 X faster you’ll see that the train is moving fast
Wc diamond glad u got there
There’s a Wig Wag at the fire department In west chicago.
Ship it by railroads yes
F59PHIs run on the UP-W UP Geneva Subdivision ? Interesting I thought they were to only run on the Heritage Corridor, Milwaukee District North, & North Central Service, pretty interesting it would be interesting if Metra assigned the F59PHI units on BNSF IMO keep up the hard work
Some of the Metra F59PHI locomotives (76 and 79 in particular) were sitting Metra's Western Avenue Coach Yard for so long due to no installation of PTC. Instead, they were given to the Metra UP to install PTC. As a result, they will run the Metra UP-Northwest and UP-West lines. -Andrew Mangalindan
Ah interesting makes sense
This video will be good
wow CN was busy most of the time its dead maybe 2 trains go by
Why are there middle engines on some freight trains 🚂
The same reason as to why there may be locomotives at the back: extra power. The railroad industry officially calls them distributed power units (DPUs for short).
@@DowntownWithBrown CN always uses mid train DPU'S never seen 1 at the end UP is doing that now and BNSF
Nice Video!
