Moral of the story: in medical matters, always insist on a second opinion.

My doctor told me once I was too fat and that if I didn’t do something about it I would have serious health problems. He wasn’t necessarily too kind. I said I wanted a second opinion. At that point he said I was also lazy.

Especially if the second opinion is a man with a gun.

They are all going away. Including my dad. I wish I could go back to my childhood. A little more aware of what they went through and a little more mature to understand it.

I first saw the film “A Bridge Too Far”in 1978 at the Frontier Drive In San Diego I was 14. 8 years later I was in DR Charles Harvey’s history class at CSU- ChicoUSHistory 1900-1945. As “Chuck” lectured about the Battle of Arnhem the 5 frat boys to my left were talking amongst themselves not paying attention to the lecture when DR Harvey said “my older brother was a member of the Army Air Corps” he was killed in action when the Glider he was flying was shot down at the Battle of Arnhem”DR Harvey was from Alhambra ,California he went to Harvard Divinity School and was a Methodist Minister ,but became a History Teacher after he grew disillusioned with the Church. He never mentioned his brothers name, but 1 year latter I had him again as a Professor this time USHistory - 1940- present which was 1987. Once again as he lectured about the battle of Arnhem This time I was ready all the other students weren’t. So 43 years after his brother was killed it brought the war home to all of his students!!!

The thing is - the Movie got the gist of the story right. The thing with Movie's is that they could take forever to include all the little details the way they actually happened - so simplifying things is the norm. Same goes for dramatizing things.

I'm sure any German officer who said the same about prisoners would have been tried.

@@WorldWarTruth yeah same, I think that's why James Caan took a small roll. Because it was the best scene in the whole great movie.
