I met him back in 1995 in the Boston Garden the night before it was torn down during a WWF "A Night To Remember" event with the legends such as Nicolai Volkolf, George The Animal Steele and many others (got all of their autographs and pictures taken of them) and he was a great guy. When he signed his name I asked him if I could ask him for his "Mario" autograph as well. His head looked up to me in shock as well as a very humble smile and he said no one has ever asked him for his autograph as his Mario character he worked in the Super Mario Brothers Super Show and he said he was very honored to make that wish true. In his own words he told me no one else ever asked for that and I am the only kid in the world who has the one true and only Mario autograph now. To this day since his passing, no one since ever made that request to him and he even talked about our meeting that day just days before he passed away during an interview. It is still in my possession proudly next to the picture I took with him and George Steele. I can say I am the only lucky guy on Earth to have the one true Mario's autograph!...and he played the part perfectly, too! He did tell me too at the time they were in the works on bringing back the show, only updating it while keeping the original formula as well as using himself again and his co star who played the role of Luigi, but when the script was finished finally he was ailing and the script sat in limbo as we call it in our acting industry in SAG-AFTRA. I would have definitely watched it!
I disagree. Mr. Fugi and Classy Freddie Blassy. Well I’ll say that there the MT. Rushmore of heel managers. As a matter of fact Jim Cornett would be my four man. But overall I’ll include Cap fo sho on the mountain. Yes sah🍾
I almost didn’t watch this video, I would have heavily regretted doing so. Not only was this a great video, this was one of the more better ones I’ve ever seen. Captain Lou Albano was definitely a very underrated figure in the world of professional wrestling.
One of my earliest wrestling memories was seeing Lou and Tony Altomare wrestling as The Sicilians in a high school gym in the late 60's,I was around 10 years old.
Much, much respect and love for the legendary Captain Lou Albano! No doubt, one of pro wrestling's greatest personalities. Thank you for the memories and RIP, Sir. 🙏

I was always a Captain Lou fan as a kid & I had no idea he went to Tennessee! I'm a East Tennessean & a life long VOL fan & so this makes me a even bigger fan, that's awesome & I don't care about him being kicked out!!!
As a kid growing up on WWF during that era, I was always a fan of Captain Lou's. One of my...."wrestling regrets", was not going to my local Italian-American Club here in Jersey, where The Captain was doing a meet & greet in September of '09. Less than a month later, he'd come to pass. A *TRUE WRESTLING LEGEND* , if ever there were one! Thanks for the entertainment/memories, Captain! Continue to R.I.P.!!
Wow!! Thx for taking the time to tell it! Warm fuzzy feeling as saw 1984 scenes... Was a kid. July 23rd event of 84 in vid here was my 8th birthday. Recall it as if was yesterday. Didn't know is when that event happened
Thanks UA-cam for the upload. Nice Documentary from Captain Lou Albano. The best General Manager WWF manager could ever had, to me. R.l.P Mr. Lou Albano.
Im a BIG fan of the 80s wrestling that i grew up on. Great memories with my dad and I. They REALLY need to make this man in the "ultimates" action figure line. Id buy 1 to open and 1 to keep put up on my shelf.
It can not be overstated how important Lou Albano was to the explosion in popularity the WWF saw in the 1980s. If not for Lou, Wrestlemania 1 may have never happened. I know Hulk Hogan was probably THE most important element to the next-level success of Pro Wrestling, but Lou Albano was arguably just as important in those early years. Aside from Bobby Heenan, Lou Albano was probably the greatest manager ever in Pro Wrestling. PS: Monsoon's expression wasn't "fountain of misfortune", it was "fountain of misinformation". Usually, he referred to Heenan using this expression, but it may have started with Albano.
Enjoyed watching wrestling with my sons in the 1980s.. I first started to go to wrestling matches in Utica NY in 1970. Great times with friends seeing Ernie the cat Ladd and Dominic DeNucci.
I met him in the late 90s at a book store signing. He was such a nice man. He was talking with all who came up to them about Jesus. I was so impressed by his faith.
Way way back in the 1970s when Captain Lou was maybe the biggest heel manager in the wwwf a friend's mom took us to see a show at a local high school. We ran into him on our way to get a drink or something. He was just standing outside the door of the gym watching the match that was in progress through the window in the door. He was super friendly with big smiles and hand shakes for all of us. True what they say the heels are usually the nicest guys off screen. On a side note we also saw Haystacks Calhoun sitting on the gate of his pickup truck in the parking lot who was also very nice.
Captain Lou was the man that set wrestling to the heights of the 1980's, but never truly get the credit for it, everyone says it was Hulk Hogan, but as this video shows it was Captain Lou. May he RIP...
Remember when I was a little kid and Captain Lou managed don morocco. They came to the ring and Captain Lou was eating a meatball sandwich. He dropped the meatball on the way out and then another point during the match he slipped on the meatball and wiped out it was hilarious.
A great tribute to an unforgettable man. The narrator got one thing wrong. Gorilla Monsoon called Captain Lou " The fountain of misinformation " Not misfortune. I started watching the WWWF in 1968 with my dad. Vince senior was running the WWWF at that time. I've always been a fan and went to so many live events I lost count. The funniest thing I’ve heard in wrestling was an interview with the Captain,I don’t know who he was referring to but he said,”If that guy had a brain he’d be dangerous;put his brain in a humming bird and it would fly backwards.”

Captain Lou albano was the first real crossover star. From wrestling to TV movies music videos.. and while everybody gives hulk Hogan credit formaking wrestling mainstream and as big as it is it was Captain Lou albano that really started it all with his relationship with Cyndi lauper.
