Hi, Laura! Many thanks to you and your family for sharing a family Thanksgiving with us - especially for those of us who aren't in the US and have only ever read about it! I hope your 'other half' is feeling better now? At least he had the major part of the weekend, before it really got to him? Have the rest of the family escaped it?
When I watch you paint, there always comes a point where I ask, wondering, "Whatever is she doing?". And always, the whole thing comes together. The same happened with the cone shell here - I couldn't quite work out what it was, as you'd shown u a handful of broken shells. Then you added the shadow, and there it was. A lovely rounded cone.
I guess I've seen too many art videos where this stage is missing, and it's so refreshing and encouraging to me to remember that every painting goes through its weird stage. I've been painting for years, and taught it, too, but have been going through a period of *huge* self-doubt in the last 18 months or so (maybe ArtTube's plethora of time lapsed, beautifully edited videos are part of the problem?).So whenever I see others going through the same stage (there are a few who always have shown, and quite a few who have recently begun to show the truth!) it really does help! Thanks for being one of them! 😊

Hi @MrsBarnabas! Yes, he's doing much better now, thankfully. But yeah, we ALL eventually became ill -- myself included. Bleh! The worst of it came after the holiday weekend was over, so for that we are grateful.
About the shells: I somehow forgot to add in the clip where I show them before I painted them (!) 🤦🏼‍♀And you are correct about the weird stage thing. I tend to create "on the fly", so to speak, which differs from those who are more planned in their approach. Hence the chaos.
Self doubt is totally a thing, for sure. As my husband says, "You're a mixed media artist: one part watercolor, and two parts angst." Haha. The internet has messed everyone up, whether it's comparing our art, our bodies, our socio-economic status, etc. etc. As humans, we're designed to regularly maintain about 150 close social ties (that's the average size of a traditional small village in many cultures) and now we have literally MILLIONS of people in our pocket, vying for constant attention? It's next to impossible, and so our self-confidence (and relationships) are suffering as a result. Hopefully we'll figure it out, and soon.
Bestest wishes to you, your loved ones, and all that you create,
      L :)

❤ the Kitchen bouquet being added at minute marker 7:42. No gravy is complete without kitchen bouquet. That is definitely an East Coast thing.😊

It definitely is, as I'd never heard of the stuff until I married into an East Coast family. :)
