Also there’s been a lot more deaths in boxing. There’s only really a handful of mma fighters that have actually died, more often than not making weight.
@@matthewgabbard6415 yes boxing has been around way longer than mma but there’s more room for error in boxing like allowing fighters to get back up after being knocked down and taking unnecessary damage. If an mma fighter dies more times than not it’s a bad weight cut or something outside of the cage. Now naturally those numbers will likely increase as time goes on especially when weight cutting isn’t as regulated as it should be.
MMA is safer than boxing: I don’t get why people don’t realise that the 10 count in boxing is so much worse than ground and pound in MMA. In MMA the guy gets dropped, takes 3 or 4 more strikes and that’s it. However, In boxing the guy gets dropped, gets back up again and either fights the rest of the fight in a concussed state that makes it harder to defend them self or they get dropped multiple times until it’s over. Basically in MMA fights get stopped sooner whereas in boxing a fighter can basically get knocked out multiple times in one fight. Not to mention that most strikes in boxing are to the head, but in MMA you have grappling and strikes to the leg as well. Finally MMA fights are only 5 rounds and boxing can go up to 12
Yeah… like I can’t imagine letting anyone fight again after being concussed or straight losing consciousness for a few seconds but having enough time to stand and “recover” That’s wild levels of damage.
In MMA there's late stoppages and in boxing the refree should check if the fighter is able to fight. In MMA there's also knockdowns, if the fighter gets up he can continue. He just has to defend while he's down up until the point he can get up. I've seen many boxing/kickboxing fights where the fighter says he can go, but the refree decides to stop the fight, even though that guy is on his legs and rises his gloves. It's the ref's fault that he lets the fighter continue. Imo they're equally as dangerous, because in MMA you can get up from a knockdown as well, just not because of a ten count, but bad refing in MMA makes for late stoppages, and in boxing bad refing can get to more punishment because of letting the fighter continue, while the standing 8 should not actually be considered the only step to see if the fighter is ok, just the first step.
