Welcome to the Atlantic! The panama canal is an absolute marvel of engineering and I enjoyed your unique perspective on the transit. Showed details that get left out by other videos.
@@micahwatson9017 I caught that too. 😁. I was about that age when my parents allowed me to have my first small drink. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and so on. It taught me how, when, and why to drink. What was acceptable and what wasn't. By the time I was of age and out on my own I had no desire to obliterate myself at parties and bars.
I like how Emma went right for the glass after the cork came out. Then she realized she was getting poured last and had to slow down. Great video of going through the locks. Great line handling by Emma and Lihn. Safe travels through the Caribbean.
Nice transit through the Panama canal. Linh, breakfast and lunch looked absolutely delicious, I hope the crew enjoyed your cooking. Thanks for taking us along‼️‼️‼️ Remember to VOTE‼️‼️‼️ 💙🇺🇸💚👍😇
I've watched many UA-camrs transit the canal, but this is the first time I really enjoyed the video and understood the process (Great graphics showing your progress). I was taken aback when Emma said the gates were controlled by two 25HP electric motors. Great job on the video. Have fun in the Atlantic, enjoying the fishing and diving. Congrats. See you next week.
@@linhgobenyt Yes, a lot of people have made the journey, and I've watched most of them. But I now understand the canal better than ever. Thank you so much. Tell Teal that the fishing in the Atlantic is great and to watch out for that elbow. You guys are great. I look forward to your videos every week. Oh, and tell Emma to watch out for those Panamanian line handlers. LOL. Have fun, guys, and stay safe.
What an awesome experience! Of all the UA-camrs I have seen going through the canal, I believe you are the only one to be rafted up in a tugboat. Growing up, my parents would have cocktails like strawberry daiquiris, and pina coladas, and my parents would make us mocktails of those drinks At around the age of 15 my parents just stopped making us mocktails and would serve us the same cocktails they were drinking. The interesting effect is that neither my sister nor I drink much. I don't drink at all, and my sister only occasionally. We also never felt the need to go out to parties and drink. A few times I was taken to a party by a friend of mine and I had no desire to drink. Considering that we came from parents who drank every night, I have to say my parents by not making it taboo and allowing us to have alcohol at home was the right thing to do.
After watching that intense and well coordinated process, the simple observation that I've learned about human nature is that...Emma will Always be Hungry! 🍛 😬🍴
You documented your transit very well and I loved the longer episode. I can’t get enough Basik in a 15 minute video. Super interesting and entertaining.
Good stuff. My great grandfather was there as a telegrapher on the railroad during construction in 1913. My father worked at Mira Flores for 39 years. May of my friends were canal pilots and tug captains. Another reason there are two locks on the pacific and one on the Atlantic is because there is an 18foot tide on the pacific and only two feet on the Atlantic. This is why the sea level canal the French tried to build would have never worked.
I look forward to seeing America's Favorite Sailing Family hit the Caribbean and maybe come upon my other favorite Sailing family, Billy and Sierra w/Jetty! Oh how nice to see Jetty and Compass have a visit!
I transited the canal aboard the CGC Gresham in 1970. I remember our Quartermaster saying the first thing the pilot asked the Capt. was how fast the cutter could go. lol
Under power basik can cut the water at around 6 knots efficiently. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to hoist a sail anywhere during your transit. It's amazing that those 600'+ ships are making way 2-3 fold our speed.
Thanks for vicariously taking us through the locks . Seems fun , but stressful at times.

Nice transit and good explanation of how the canal functions. I’m amazed at the spectacular engineering the US used when building the Panama Canal over a century ago. Emma summarized it nicely when she said it only requires 2 25 horsepower motors to move those giant lock gates.
What was really interesting was the "landmarks" of where one country started/stopped and the US took over and finished the project. The original engineering is still working flawlessly. One exception is due to their recent drought conditions, they have been retrofitting to recapture some of the water that was normally expelled/loss with each transit.
