My theory is something supernatural was at work in those woods, and my money is on the Wendigo. Everything in the show adds up with Wendigo lore perfectly.
@@omarslayz Kind of, but not really. Different Native tribes had different perceptions of what the Wendigo is. For the most part, the beliefs are the same though. Wendigo is a cold weather creature and it's not so much a demon as it is a cryptid of sorts. A Wendigo starts out as human. Then the cold weather, the isolation, and the hunger sets in. Here's where the legends differ. Some tribes believed that the spirit of the Wendigo lived in the woods and would push people toward committing cannibalism, and that's when the transformation happens and the person becomes a Wendigo. Other tribes believed that the spirit of the Wendigo already lives inside all of us and the cold weather, the isolation, the desperation and act of cannibalism awakens that spirit... As for their appearance, a Wendigo is gaunt, frail and emaciated like something that's starving to death. It's skin is gray and dry and it has no lips or skin on its fingers because it's chewed it all off and ate it, and a Wendigo is always hungry. It's essentially a cryptid not unlike a werewolf, only they never return to human form. Only two ways to kill one. Fire and decapitation.
9:56 YES!!!! SPEAK ON THE SHADY STALKER BEHAVIOR OF THIS MAN!!!! There is no way all of those paintings were created since they knew each other. Also with the magazine collection and paintings of her face in such a. . .fleshy state. It doesn’t sit right.
@@ipukeglitter435 The paintings are what’s so wild to me. Either he’s an incredibly seasoned artist who can pump out THAT many detailed paintings in such a short period of time, or Mr. Adam non-art-school-student was up to something weird. makes me believe that maybe it was a part of the scrapped Javi storyline, if adam was actually Javi that would give him time to create those and give reasoning to why he painted Shaunas true state as so haunting and malicious
@ if Javi would’ve been Adam, that would’ve made for a really interesting storyline for the ‘96 plot line (I.e., what would the group/Shauna have done to inspire this chain of events so many years later etc.)
I believe "other tai" started the fire. I DONT believe ben started it, he was shown to be struggling to get a fire started in the cave earlier that episode before he grabbed the matches. The door being locked and not opening is out of bens hands, it wasnt barricaded from the outside, so how? Also, Van had to push tai out. Tai hesitated to leave the cabin, even tho she was the one breaking the door. I think "other tai" is behind much more than we realize. Remember, she saw the man with no eyes when she was a kid. SHE could be the catalyst to this whole thing.
Yes he struggled to start the fire so he went back to the cabin to get matches then he saw natalie becoming the leader. He looked very mad about it since he told her to come with him because she is different from the others. I think this is why Ben did it.
@itchooses I can see that, but something needs to explain how the door just seemed "stuck" kinda like the attic stares when Jackie tried to put them back up. Seems there's a force holding those things
I read a comment on another video that said in the opening when the antler queen was shown, that it isnt any of the actual girls. Its a physical manifestation of the wilderness itself. Thats why the antler queen doesnt eat, has the girls hair pinned to her and all the other girls wait for her approval to eat. I think the antler queen changes, being many of the girls transfer in and out but i think for the opening sequence it was supposed to be more symbolic.
I do believe it is supposed to be the teammates. In an interview, the cast states that the creators had stunt doubles stand in for the girls in that scene to keep the mystery alive for the cast as well
Do you think the wilderness is supernatural or do you think they just losing their minds due to the fact that they in the wilderness and I think that maybe it is actually a mining thing and the reason why the water was red was because of the minerals of the mining and all the gases or whatever is causing them to hallucinate and lose their minds, but just like why the animals are also acting a bit weird.
I love how ambiguous the show makes it, especially because even in the adult timeline Shauna still doesn't believe anything supernatural was out there when she says, 'it was just us.' That being said, I think Lottie turning around to the window before it flew open (when she got possessed), Tai knowing where the symbols are while sleepwalking, and Jackie seeing dead cabin guy's ghost when she dies all lead me to think that there has to be some supernatural stuff going on. Though some other things still have reasonable explanations like Javi falls through the ice not because the wilderness chose Nat but because it was weak from where they tried to excavate the moose, birds have been known to crash to the ground while trying to do things like avoid a predator, and they're literally all hallucinating by the end of season 2. So, while I think its supernatural, I love that the show keeps us guessing, it really puts us in the characters shoes. Especially because I'm more skeptical in real life, I think if I was stuck in the wilderness I probably wouldn't be on team Lottie even though watching I'm like yeah... there's probably something supernatural happening. TLDR yeah its probably supernatural, but its kind of fun to not really know
It definitely feels like a combination of both. However, the supernatural element cannot be ignored. In Lottie’s flashback scene, there is a moment of her having some element of foresight before a car accident occurs in front of them, before the woods. In Tai’s flashback with her grandmother, she sees the man with no eyes for the first time, before the woods. There are certain things that happen IN the woods that definitely skew to the supernatural side (i.e., the camera’s POV of the force flying through the air and dropping all of the snow right on top of Jackie’s body and nowhere else), but it also becomes more balanced with the psychosis that is setting in amongst the team/coach. I think the show did this on purpose to further the discussion of psychosis vs supernatural. Plus, in later years, the discussion is still relevant but adds a new element of trauma: what is psychosis, what is flashbacks caused by trauma, what is supernatural? This show does such a good job of adding nuance into this exact discussion/argument
@ It's my favorite part of the show, the nuance. I love that things can be explained out of the supernatural stuff but largely only out of coincidence or chance. It would also be a shame just to dismiss the visions and how they come true and the possibility of the wilderness gifting things like the bear and the birds as a direct result of sacrificed blood. And to brush off Tai's sleepwalking as an alter due to DID from PTSD is unfair to Tai and also the wilderness because while she's the bad tai, she was able to find Javi and help them map out the woods, etc.
One of the things I thought was interesting in an interview. I read with ET at the beginning of season two was the writers confirmed that Adam was originally Javi. They confirmed that they were a little annoyed that the Internet figured out that it was him and they purposely changed the trajectory of season two because of that. I always tell people in forums like Reddit to not get too deep about their theories because the writers are always stalking the Reddit forums and making sure that we don’t figure things out and if we do, they change them . I now exclusively come to put my theories in UA-cam comment sections.
They said early on they considered it but realized it wasn’t what they wanted they specifically said they don’t change the story or have the fans influence them.
A question I have is were is where is Sammy and Steve? Tai and Simone were on their way to pick him up when they crashed, then we don't see either of them again. Tai's been gone for days and Simone is in a coma. who is taking care of their kid??
My theory, Shauna's baby didn't die. I think the Wilderness gave the team a hallucination, Javi's Friend came and took the baby into the tunnels where she raised him as her own with her new nonsexual life partner, Coach Ben.
I think at the end of the day, or end of the series I should say. It will all be left up to your interpretation if things are actually paranormal or madness. Conclusions could be made from each. And if so, fine. I think some are too hung up on needing this awnsered asap.
I'd be so down for more Lisa, I'm a little attached to Nicole Maines since I watched Supergirl as it came out weekly for its whole run, and Jeff does have me worried, especially with him hallucinating Shauna's knife hands 😬
