This is adapted from several of the books, and is surprisingly faithful to the source material. The author of the books, Dav Pilkey, based his books on his own childhood experiences

Exactly, I’ll see if I can name them all...
Mr Krupp is hypnotised into being Captain Underpants (book 1)
Turbo Toilet 2000 appears (book 2 and 11) Also a carnival (book 2)
      CU gets powers (book 3)
Poopypants appears (book 4) (also in books 9 and 10, but he’s Tinkletrousers for those books)
      CU backstory (book 5)
Melvin being an antagonist (books 6 and 7)
George and Harold in kindergarten (book 9)
George and Harold being threatened to be put into different classes (book 11). However, the reasons why are different and they at least find a way to prevent it in the book...but consequences happen...

This movie was surprisingly brilliant. The immature potty humor is a turnoff for a lot of people but this is one of the most accurate representation of kids (particularly boys) that I've seen. Not too unlikable, not too angelic, they act like real kids. I love that.

    • @videohistory722

The books actually give a real explanation:
You know how when you're a baby it was a big deal when you started using the potty like a big kid, and the second you did it consistently you were basically forbidden from ever talking about it again?
Harold and George noticed this hypocrisy a long time ago and thus write and draw about it to challenge this hypocrisy.

11:33 the entire book series starts with him being turned into captain underpants!
    The differences:
They sabotaged a football game, not the invention convention (okay they did sabotage that too, but the point is they didn't do it in the first book) Pranks included putting pepper in the cheerleaders pompoms, pouring bubble bath into the marching band's big horns, and filling the football with helium.
He didn't threaten to separate them, he threatened to hand over the footage of their sabotage to the football team and let them beat them up. He wouldn't if they did everything he said.
One of them gets the idea to turn him into captain underpants and order the hypno ring.
The shrinking and enlarging machine are two different inventions.

Dav Pilkey, the book author, was a kid with ADHD in a time where this was seen as "spoiled kid" thing. While being punished for his disorders, literally on a desk outside the classroom, Dav created Captain Underpants and other comics, like George and Harold. His teacher scolded him and teared his comic books apart, saying he shouldn't waste time creating silly books. To quote a book about him, "Thank God Dav wasn't a good listener".

Something I feel like DreamWorks doesn't get enough credit for is adapting stories and book series into great pieces of animation. Like Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, the series of Trollhunters, Bad Guys, and Captain Underpants movie were all I believe based on each of their respective books. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure all of these are.)

I’m almost 18,, and this movie really brought me back to when I read the comics in elementary school, I even remember my school district banning the books because they were seen as “inappropriate”. So it makes me happy that Dreamworks made this movie happen, cause it was such a great comic series that although I don’t like the humor sometimes, I know it’s making someone else happy. The creator, Dav Pilkey, was told at a young age that he can’t spend the rest of his life making silly comics, and he proved everyone wrong, he truly inspires me.

This movie was made with an abnormally small budget. The irony of that is that this animation style is about a hundred times more timeless and appealing than most of what Pixar tries to do. Not that Pixar's animation is bad but let's be real, sometimes they can get a bit obsessive with realism.

I'll try to explain all the references to the books...(oh boy)
    1. The giant robot Professor Poopypants uses to attack the school is it's own villain in the second Captain Underpants book, along with the mini talking toilets who appear at the end of the film. He comes back in book 11.
    2. Captain Underpants actually gets his powers in book 3 from 'Alien Super-power juice.
    3. The nasty cafeteria food Poopypants uses to power the Turbo Toilet 2000 is exactly what kills him and his Talking Toilet underlings in the second book.
    3. There are 3 cafeteria ladies in the books. They're all too ederly for Mr. Krupp to date. They quit in book 3 and the book's villains, the evil aliens, take their place.
    4. Poopypants is the antagonist of books 4, 9, and 10. He becomes a villain thanks to George and Harold making fun of him with their comics and tries to take over Earth but is arrested. He comes back in book 9 and accidentally changes the past and ruins the future, so he fixes it. In book 10, he chases George, Harold and Captain Underpants into dinosaur times after inadvertently creating three versions of himself, who all die in somewhat scary ways.
    5. Melvin Sneedly (the school nerd and tattletale) first appears in book 2 creating the device George and Harold use to accidentally bring the toilets to life. He becomes the main villain in book 6. He tries to combine himself with a robot to get back at George and Harold, but accidentally sneezes, adding boogers to the mix and becoming The Bionic Booger Boy. In the end, he's blown into three pieces and successfully separated from him nasty booger body. But, the 3 sections come to life and terrorize the group in book 7.
    6. The villain of the first book was a short old man in a diaper, named Dr. Daiper, who wanted to blow up the moon. He was taken to jail.
    Wow...this was a lot...

Captain underpants has book and graphic novel. He was not the principal in the graphic novel, which would be the comics written by George and Harold but he was in the story

You should totally watch Sahara(The one about snakes not humans). Lots of people don't like it but I think that its because of the time it came out, when lots of other really good movies came out and it got higher expectations. I really like the animation and it isn't on the side of comedy or plot, it's more like both!

Sadly, there is no movie sequel yet or unknown but Netflix made a TV sequel which is hilarious.

I never liked Captain Underpants as a kid because I despised all things that were popular, but when this movie came out on Netflix, I wanted to watch it to see how bad it was. But I was pleasantly surprised as it was actually a fantastic movie. One of my all time favorites now, along with the books and Netflix show.
