I saw talisman in a games shop when I was a lot younger - I didn't buy it and always wondered what the gameplay would be like. I bought the steam version and after playing for about 6 hours with no end in sight I wondered if the board game was the same. The new 5th edition looks good and this expansion has got me interested in it again. Maybe one day I will buy it to add to my vast collection of games. We will see :) Thanks for the video as always Kev. Take care mate.
Thanks for watching. Talisman really is a lot of fun, but is really at its best when you have a group of players around the table who enjoy racing, pushing their luck, and screwing with each other.
6 hours games happens, but rare, and even this is because of stalemating. Usually around 3 hours is long, but ok game. Experienced players playing with "no resurrection", so one player out usually in 20 minutes
My Brother in law played Talisman since the very first edition. And we still play it today. Also with with my friends. For me its the best board game. No round is like the last one. And with like 17-19 extensions, you have a lot of choices. And now we are here with the 5th. edition. I talked to some people and we like the new ideas for the base game and the character design and the new board. And I really, really hope they have some new and fresh ideas for the extensions. My ideas for the corner parts would be something like the chaos realms, or an ice desert or a normal desert. Or another great idea for me would be that you have the choice to flip the corners. Imagine: on one side you have a ice desert and one the other side you have normal desert. Or one one side the city and the other side is a destroyed city with skaven like in warhammer and you have to build it up again. For me, I would pay 10-20€ more if I could have that choice for every round. I'm very excited about their new ideas after the first expension.
The first expansion looks interesting, and I am excited to see what they have planned for future efforts. I am expecting a mix of old favourities with new ideas.
As a solo board gamer I love this. The fact it could've been included in the core, as it obviously was ready at the same time, annoys me. I am pleased that it's not a true 'legacy game, but a 'green legacy' (resetable) one.
I know where you're coming from, but it's pretty common for ready or almost-ready expansions to be partitioned off though. And I would say it does make sense to separate off a brand new way of playing the game, especially when it has sealed boxes and envelopes which would muddy the "clean" core set with new ideas and would necessitate a much bigger and more expensive core box.
I'm really interested in 5E. I like the idea of a Doom Tracker, and the art is excellent. Hoping to get some extra Talisman dice after release. I would like a set for each player as we do sometimes get 6 players on game nights. Thanks for the video. Cheers
Generally you only need one dice per player. Occasionally you roll two or three. The warrior always rolls two in combat. But for the most part, being able to give each player one dice would be useful. Of course, you can raid your D6 box, but it just isn't the same, is it?
Looks good to me. Funnily enough at Game Expo a couple of weeks ago I bought a copy of Talisman 3rd edition and then saw that Talisman 5th edition was on sale too. I’m really happy with my 3rd edition purchase but this new one looks different enough to be a future purchase.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring No It was from a seller in hall 1 who had quite a few retro games and things. I spotted it towards the end of the day. From the Bring and Buy I got a copy of Middle Earth Quest and Fury of Dracula both Fantasy Flight games. So I had a good time.
@@jameswhitehouse5706 Nice finds. I have Middle-earth Quest and I love it. I used to have FFG's edition of Fury of Dracula but it never got played so I sold it. I do intend to pick up the original at some point.
Another great video!! I am tempted to jump in on Talisman. Never played it before. If I get it, I'll likely only be playing with one or two others, so a co-op/solo option would be nice. I need to watch some game-play of Talisman, to see how it works in real time.
Watching someone else playing it, you might think it looks a bit dull. It really does boil down to rolling a dice, moving to a space, and then doing what it says on that space. But the joy comes in the emerging story, the highs and lows, and the interplay with other characters.
This looks promising. I too like Talisman as a competitive silly romp, but like I mentioned in your last video most of my board gaming these days is 1 or 2 players. And all my Talisman 4th ed collected dust once my regular group disbanded and I decided to part with it. For a group of people especially those who don't play board game Talisman is easy to teach and play, and this edition looks really nice. So the potential to have a good 2 player variant could be worth it.
Really exited about this! A fresh and new take on Talisman with co-op play. Count me in. I think this could also be a good entry to Talisman for my younger kid. I think the standard way of playing Talisman is still to brutal for him at the moment. So co-op could be the softer introduction.
I think you may be right there. For younger gamers, having your stuff stolen or getting stabbed in the back by other players can be rough, so this will definitely put a fresh spin on it. I'm still not entirely sure it's going to work for me, but I would be more than happy to find out it's a blast, and I am more than prepared to give it a good go to find out!
I am wondering if they are just going to trot out old favourites or if they have ideas for brand new characters. There are so many existing characters they could draw from!
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring hmm... Could go either way. They have some pretty creative people working for them. A lot of ideas could be used, old and new!
As I understand it, there is one alternative ending in Blood Moon where the characters can work together, simply not attacking each other and sharing a win if the objective is met; but for the most part it's still a versus expansion. Fate Beckons appears to be built from the ground up to be an entirely co-op campaign - the whole expansion is geared towards it rather than one optional ending. It appears to be adding a lot of mechanisms specifically for that purpose and is the first "true" all co-op expansion for the game.
Yes, but that is one alternative ending, predominantly using the same mechanisms in an otherwise competitive expansion. This is a whole co-op expansion, built around that idea.
I really don't know. I left the tray and dice out on the table and whenever I had a few minutes I would roll the dice. It was hundreds of times in the end. Thanks for watching!
Talisman has always been a race, with a pace dictated by the players. There's no doom clock normally, so the tempo will depend on how aggressively players push, but it has always been about levelling before everyone else and getting to the middle first. This solo expansion is something new - it has to create some kind of threat because the players aren't actively against each other - but I am sure there will be other expansions that cleave closer to the standard gameplay format.

@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Okay,I admit it. I’m a dice-aholic,and I’m looking for more excuses to add to the hoard. LOL
And I don't blame you. I love dice. They hate me, but I don't mind.

Was that in the bring and buy part? I saw a copy of Magic Realm in there but just couldn’t justify the cost.

It looks like it could be well thought out. Enemy NPCs could be an interesting addition to regular games too.

I’m thinking the same thing. My kids are young and hate losing. I find co-op games the best way to play with them.
I need this in my collection!
I really want to see those new miniatures!
be me with all the expansions for 4th edition about too open my wallet again..... darn you hasbro
hmm... blue lady is an Ice Wizard? Or maybe a ghostly widow..? Can't see enough of the rest to hazard a guess.

Doesn't 4ed Bloodmoon have a co op scenario/ending?

Another great review and a game that im tempted to getting :) 🤘🤟💥🏴🇬🇧🇦🇺
Thank you. I’ve been having a lot of fun with the game.
Talisman became a racing game instead of an adventure game. I'm disappointed adventure games should be long.
