This is pure gold. The connexion between the ranges and the board, how one is more polar or more merged and how to articulate the sizing choice depending on the position gets so clear in those examples. Thank you. Gonna definitly hop into the CPS over the next few months
Man, I love the Deep Dive series. This is perfect content for me. I would imagine a large part of your audience is digging this video as well. At least I hope your retention rates are high and viewer length is good. Then you will make more of the "deep dive" series.
I have yet to discover another coach who actually looks at the likelyhood of a spot being over/underbluffed versus immediately looking at blockers, good stuff
So, if you're the ak, when do u give up? To me, sometimes u have a feeling, when u get called preflop after your three bet, your opp in this case you, has to have mid pocket pair or atleasta10 suited up, maybe some kq qj suitedss but that's the bottom of their range. If I'm ak I hate these type boards and I'm out most of the time on the flop, maybe a quarter of the time and depending opp call to see the turn
How being 200bb deep affect what is shown here? Personally playing 2/5 or 5/10 live that's the most common deepness where I find myself and not sure how it can change the strategy.
Hey man! Thanks for the awesome content! And Happy Birthday!!! It would be awkward if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's today, so wish you all the great stuff and a ton of luck at the tables!
Question I played in a 1 3 cash game.. UTG opens to $15 CO bets $50 I make it $150 with QQ.... UTG fold CO jams I call for my stack ..$350 Was this correct? Run out was crazy.. UTG says he fold JJ CO shows KK Flop comes Q J 4 Turn 9 River 10 I lose to the straight. Its a cooler if i just called, CO probably shoves or check raises flop, i know i shove flop.. Any comments, in hind sight i thi k call, but flop certainly gets me in trouble..
All depends on the player, if you think hes jamming worse than qq call. 1/3 games are pretty splashy so I would assume its an easy call but if its a nit its a fold. With nits your best case scenario is a 50/50 flip with AK, or your a big underdog so I like to fold qq there
First hand. Good note. We don't have big bets when X to on flop IP on this texture because villain in OOP should be protecting their X range and X their overpairs at a certain freq.
In the second hand, anyone know why KK and QQ have negative blocker properties? We want to block BTN's Jx right? Is it because KJo and QJo is not in BTN's range when BB 3bets?
It's because it unblocks Ax and that is a large part of BTN turn value bet range that those two hands are drawing to 2 outs on the river against. That is a massive deal, and because the A is suited to the J on the board flush draws are being cut down hugely. BTN range becomes more value heavy than it already is by the texture, as BTN is polarised, and if the bluffs are not there because of blocking combos, the turn bet becomes nutted but the maths say BB has to defend You're also blocking the broadway draw which is the only easy to find low equity bluff against those hands, finally if you have a club you are blocking a lot of the remaining flush draws. Simply for bluffs on the turn if BB has KK no club, BTN has a few club suited connectors, 4 QTs, 2 KTs, 2 KQs to bluff with, vs countless Ax, 1 or 2 KJs, 2QJs, 2 JTs, 3 66. Basically KK and QQ are terrible hands to defend with on the turn but with BB range they are basically forced to defend
Really like the content and good to see I would have did same actions but my bet sizings are smaller. Really dislike the 'against pool' phrase. There is no such thing imo.
Are you special? Against pool is an extremely simple and valuable concept where he's trying to show how to deviate from the solver to max EV using the mistakes common in players at your stakes. The adjustments do not have to be extreme, and they rely on experience of pool, and intuition on villain's tendencies compared to pool Simple example, if checked to in position on the river your opponents are usually too wide, call too often and are 100% inelastic with calling vs bet size (because of stack to pot ratio being short enough), compared to the solver. Ie a loose station who thinks everyone is bluffing them (often at micros), you should jam all hands you're going to value bet, and value bet at a much higher frequency with a weaker range than if you were playing a solver, or a TAG pool, or a pool that folds a lot of middling hands to barrelling. You also should completely minimise bluffing, and if you decide to have a bluffing range at all (probably not advisable), there should be zero showdown value hands in there, only the worst air could even be considered (where you lose near 100% of the time if you check). Of course, sometimes you make less adjustment if the pool is less uniform or villain may appear to play differently, and the pool could be "fish at my stakes" or "shitregs at my stakes" rather than "all players at my stakes"
Hi Pete, Just wanted to say i really love your podcast with Melissa and enjoy your takes on poker and philosophy. Have you seen any content from Dr K at HealthyGamerGG hes got some great mindset stuff for gamers.

Love this format, Pete! It was great seeing the contrasting flop textures between the two hands and how our strategy changes.
Love this deep dive video format, Very valuable content in this one. Great video Pete
Great content Pete. Please keep putting out more content of this level!

I really enjoy making these so I also hope the numbers are strong.

Would absolutely love to learn more about 3bet pots. Is there a video about 3bet pots OOP out there/on the horizon?
First hand is a good one. I was surprised as well at our shoving freq vs villain range IP on river.

Another great video my man! Would love an uncapped amount of your time, FOR FREE. Who wouldn't?

In Depth. Get in!
I would love to be on your podcast! How do I get into your discord? I travel the USA playing live for a living.
I believe you just need to purchase one of his courses / or private coaching to get into the discord :)
BTW I purchased coaching from you before 100 hands and right after your first book.
Ernie, add me on discord as carrotz9127
