My heart breaks to see you having such a loving and caring family, you're insanely lucky and i hope you always remain grounded and appreciative of all you have :) All the best
Congratulations on the newest Welker. Your 1150 Custom was a top end model of the 1150 featuring a chrome muffler, chrome shift knob, and Custom decal on the cab. Owners of a Custom 1150 received a "Custom" Versatile jacket at delivery. Its a cool tractor. What happened to the original roof? I hope it can be restored at some point.
Yes - Run the drive tires on a combine traction backwards... When I was farming I always ran the traction tires on my combine backwards. Here are the reasons why: #1. With a combine when you encounter mud you stop forward momentum immediately and reverse out of the mud. You do not try to mud your way through a mud hole with a combine. You'll get stuck every time. With the tires reversed the traction of the machine is going backwards so you can back out of those sticky situations. #2. The tires wear a good 30% longer when roading a combine. Especially on asphalt roads. #3. The combine rides much smoother with the drive tires reversed. There may be more reasons but those are the main ones for me. Cheers.....
congratulations on the baby Nick and katherine. the family is growing and so are your subscribers. good work on the videos and the new farming simulator map. you guys are great really enjoy your videos.
I love your Buds very much...but I really start enjoying to see this Versatile in your videos more and more and get to know more about it...:) But I can totaly unterstand what you guys are talking about. At the end of the day it's a nice tractor, but it needs to make sense to put this kind of money in it. Btw, congratulations Nick!
I love your channel! Those cute kids will soon realize how very fortunate they are to live on the farm with a loving, caring family. THE DRIVE-TRAIN FROM AN INTERNATIONAL 350 PAYHAULER IS JUST THE TICKET. CHANGE OUT EVERYTHING. The tranny in most of the early ones are among the toughest Allisons ever designed. From the factory they had a variety of engines. 550 horse V-8 Cats all the way up to 16V149 Detroit turbo diesels pushing over 1000 hp. the frame width is fairly close to the Versatile. The transfer case is rated at over 9000 ft lbs. They run 7500 bucks for a hulk to $30,000 complete and running. Manitoba is was full of decent used ones but a bunch went to SA. I was going to build a helper tug from one to pull heavy haul trucks uphill to windmill installation sites. We ended up finding a scrapped Michigan 675 loader and making it work. It is a FUEL PIG with those twin Detroit V-16 engines but it is used on million dollar haul jobs and pays for itself by never getting stuck. THANKS FOR POSTING GREAT STUFF>.!!
Congratulations on the baby Katherine and Nick. :) Still encouraging to see you and leg arms with growing families. Hopefully the next generation of Welker Farms.
One of the best posts ever. You and Scott covered so much. Congratulations Nick on your upcoming addition. The explanation of the Versatile status was fantastic. Loved you addressing comments on the reverse mount of the harvester tires. Wishing you well and some rain. Take care and God Bless Welker Farms.
Congratulations on the new addition to the family Nick. Best job in the world is being a parent. Children are truly a blessing. It would be cool to see the old Versatile restored but man that needs a pile of work and money dumped in it! I totally get why you haven't. Seems like it would be farther ahead to just pass it on down the line and look for another tractor if you really want or need one. I would vote for a series 4 Bud personally.
What a blessing! Hopefully the next generation of farmers? How about that one kiddo in the opening of the video with a whole bag of Daritos!! Now that’s happiness!
1st, congratulations on the new baby! 2nd, 45 years into this business tells me sell the tractor and engine and put the money in what you really need (machinery storage) unless you can get some really serious sponsorship. BTW, my 2 wheel drive JD S670 came with rear tires facing forward. Thinking about changing. Makes sense!
The front tyers on my tractor were rear facing for extra breaking on down hill runs. When it got too steep I used to follow a bigger tractor or dozer down.
I agree with this experienced man, put the money into something that is more worthy of the money on the farm. You have 3 big buds already I think the versatile 1150 would just be a "spare tractor"
Congrats Nick! If I had to guess you´re probably looking at more like 80 to a 100 grand for bringing that Versatile back to life, not counting in the work.
If we didn't find any used parts and went with new or slightly used the price could easily go that high. We try to find second hand stuff but not always the case!

Robert Welker It was very fun! I run a 65 Chevelle with a twin Garret GTX4720Rs 76mm, Texas Speed 427 on 25 pounds. Puts down about 1,190 at the wheels. Was putting down solid 9.02 to 9.15 1/4s. Any faster and my dad won’t let me run.

I can't even imagine doing one of those things let alone all three, God bless you guys you guys don't need to explain anything to use because you guys are already blessing us with these great videos! I hope this year will be profitable and then you can get your new machine shed up and maybe one day we'll get to see the 1150 in there too! I can't wait to see the beast bine running during harvest. PS congrats Hollywood that boy is going to be one of the luckiest kids in Montana and I hope (if he chooses to) he will continue running the Welker farms for many years to come!
Congratulations on the new "tractor operator"!!! Also, great explanation on the ins and outs of refurbishing the versatile! Finally, I'm glad you pointed out the missing lug nut on Beastbine. Again, great video and thanks for bringing us along to your farm!
Congrats on the new little boy. Another point on the tires, they will wear more evenly when backwards especially on a sprayer or grain cart with lots of road travel. To the 1150, Steiger ran drop boxes behind their transmissions for the most part. What about parts off some of the burned tractors at Big Equipment? Possibly a tranny and drop box setup that needs new seals?
Congrats on your new baby boy and I hope that you find some purpose for the versatile wether it be for money or for horsepower... I think a 4th tractor will speed ye up and mabye another drill....
Congratulations on the new baby. Great video on the Versatile non-restoration. And I love that you say Happy Independence Day and not 4th of July. We don't day say "Merry 25th of December." We need to remember why we have those Holidays. I also love more of your family's involvement in the videos.
Have you considered using a transmission from a Massey 4800 series tractor? Designed or up to 500 HP and have PTO and easy hydraulic motor connections.
I think that a huge obstacle would be bringing the PTO all the way to the back and have it pivot just at the right spot. It'll be a money and a time pit. Money is tight and so is time. Forget about the Versatile guys. Stick to your decision.
You guys could have this beauty for $11,500 and probably less if you make an offer. I believe it has a PTO and a 3-point hitch along with a Cummins V-8. www.tractorhouse.com/listings/farm-equipment/for-sale/32246485/massey-ferguson-4880
Are you guys old enough to remember the Massey-Ferguson commercial jingle from the 70's? "Your best farm plan is the M F plan, Massey Ferguson." This is bringing back some old memories, we had a M-F 165 back in the early 70's.
Yes, congratulations!! Wonderful! One of your best vids. Money logic; not fun, but you need to keep an eye on the dollar signs, always. Breaking even is a poor business plan.
I see this video as a reach out....a reach out for some help. You guys have a huge fan base an your doing the right thing. Reach out, some where someone probably has what you'll need for that versi-tractor. Hopefully I'll see it run someday. They really are a cool tractor. Good luck and congratulations on the baby boy.
First of all i want to co gratulate you guys on the family expansion coming up! Second of all, the versatile. I've been following you guys for a long time and im loving every second of footage you guys upload to bits. And to see a community so close and involved with the channel as yours is mindblowing. So if you were to set up a crowdfunding i have no doubt your community will back you up. Its refreshing to see that you guys are just as big of machine nuts as me, thats why i want to tell you that if you set up a crowdfunding i will back you up with as much as i can spare. Growing up as a kid i saw the machines i grew up with being abused, torn apart, parted out and scrapped by people who saw them as "just machines". Everytime something would break on the old beautys i would hear the most colerfull of words followed up by something either being taken off the machines or simply being put aside left to rot. Now that im older i can actively help bring back those old beasts, its one of the reasons i became a farm mechanic. So please dont let money be the reason that classic beast should die, if you read this i want you to know you have my support and there isnt a doubt in my mind that im not alone. Keep up the good work and the lord will bless you with happiness and prosperity. With the best of wishes from across the ocean. M
That's the thing most people don't realize but if every sub donated $1 for something you could get a lot of money. Because as of this comment there is 217k people subscribed and even half half the people donated a $1 it still could maybe happen or at least a good start.
Massive congratulations Nick and Kathleen and the whole Welker family on your forthcoming addition!! Knew I was right following my comment on your previous video ;-)
With as little rain as you get have you tried running crops like dry land pinto beans? Here in southwest Colorado we don't get much rain either and the best crops are wheat, alfalfa, or pintos.
It’s all about marketability. There aren’t many pinto bean markets where they are.... different growing seasons. There’s is shorter. Time and heat units make a lot of difference. There are all kinds of reasons.
@@thenutdriver9685 often in dry climates alfalfa is grown for seed because they can irrigate for growth and then put it in drought to make it produce seed you can't do this in wetter climates. you can also irrigate and make hay.
Scrap it/ sell it. If it already had a PTO setup it 'might' be worth thinking about..... Use the money from selling to rebuild the motor. Then you will have a spare ready, or have a very desirable motor to sell.Rebuilding motor would be a great winter project for us to watch :)
Excellent explanation of the ins & outs of engine/trans/drop-box and associated costs. Other explanations about the PTO (which I knew) and vehicle application on your farm. Economics plays a large role in determining feasibility of a restoration.
The PTO on those probably goes on the side of the transmission and drives off the countershaft. They are only rated for like 50HP. That grain cart needs 300 HP.
some of them old case 4 wheel drives had a whole drop in box for pto don't know what they were run off though. we are running 53ft belt trailers of the truck transmissions for hydraulic power
Hey Nick. Congrats too you and your family. Thanks for taking the time too explain why you out the tires on "backwards" I'm in Ontario Canada and we have lots of mud so they were backwards. See ya in the next video. God bless
They may or may not be of any help But big tractor patrs near Rollag MN may be able to help with transmission and drop box I understand that still leaves the PTO issue
Just a thought, but you can buy a old clark michigan 275b wheel loader with a 4 speed powershift. Cost's about E10.000. It comes with hydraulic pumps with enough capacity for a Hydraulic driven PTO.
Congratulations guys!! That's exciting news!!! We are also expecting a boy in September!! I have been watching your channel for over a year now. Love the content you guys make. We farm at Tuberose Saskatchewan 7 miles northwest of Kyle. Kyle is a great community located 50 mins north of Swift Current.
21:45 , What those weird faces next to the Teleskid? Do you guys own it now or something? You guys had it for awhile and I hope you do, I love watching that thing haha!
Honestly you should ask for donations! I am shure a lot of your subscribers would donate a dollar or two or even more... That might bring in the money for a good part of the restoration. So I would definetly recomend that!!! Greetings from Germany, keep up the good work ;)
A good bet would be finding a Volvo artic truck like an A40D or A40E to use as a donor for the drivetrain, other artics May work too but I’ve only worked on the Volvo’s and I know they’re the best in the business. Even if you just find a drop box out of one, they have the external coupler ya need to connect to an Alison, it’s been awhile but I know those trucks have 8-9 hydraulic pumps which I think are driven off the transmission. Check the Ritchie brothers auctions as many of those trucks are sent oversees with fairly decent power trains, but the hitch(artic joint bearings) are worn out.
Congratss Nick and family. The Versatile should be rebuild better then it was! Old iron like these fine pieces should never be scrapped! Old is gold! Open a funn raising for this beast and make her come to life aggain!
Good luck with the rain you need soon for a bumper crop. Congratulations on the new baby boy. Great overview on the 3 options. Sell it and build grain and equipment storage building.
Well done guys, well put across. It's never easy the conflict between head, heart and money! It's a long expensive road on rebuilds... Saying that, how much is shipping for the versatile to the UK? ?😍😂
Thank you so much for explaining the tires!! For months I have been wondering why. I started to notice a pattern that on tractors, they were forward, and on trailers they are backwards. Look at Millennial Farmers trailers. Even the new tracked grain trailer has the tread backwards. So I started to realized that if the tread is backwards, its always on non-driven wheels. Now I finally know why. Also I thought 2wd combines had smooth rudder like tires in the back(and 2wd tractors had rudder like tires in front). I did not know that 2wd tractors now were getting chevrons all the way around. Thanks for teaching me today!

Congratulation. May God bless your family as it grows.
Might have something will check
Congradulations on the new addition to the Welker family. Another LegArms!!!
"We don't have mud that often." But every time you do Leg Arms finds it!
🤣👍
Roasted lol rip leg arms👴🏻
I just about shed a tear when I seen you pull that engine. Glad to here there's a possibility of it running again
@@tony-the-tigerjohns3294 Lol. The dealer is Bane-Welker. And its got a radio.
Are you guys old enough to remember the Massey-Ferguson commercial jingle from the 70's? "Your best farm plan is the M F plan, Massey Ferguson." This is bringing back some old memories, we had a M-F 165 back in the early 70's.
@@tony-the-tigerjohns3294 those cummins 903s arent exactly the greatest engines though
Happy 4TH guys. Thanks for posting and sharing the videos. Love to see that Versatile running again.
Yes, congratulations!! Wonderful! One of your best vids. Money logic; not fun, but you need to keep an eye on the dollar signs, always. Breaking even is a poor business plan.
Congratulations on the baby. Great video as always. Hope you get some rain too.
You guys can use military transfer case, transmission, and motor. The transmissions on some military vehicles have the PTO output just an idea.
Congrats to Nick and Family!!
Maybe Nick from South Saskatchewan Farmer wants it. He farms with Versatile's.👍
M
Thanks much, Blessings
Option 4: every subscriber donates 1 buck and this thing will even have leather seats 😎
That's the thing most people don't realize but if every sub donated $1 for something you could get a lot of money. Because as of this comment there is 217k people subscribed and even half half the people donated a $1 it still could maybe happen or at least a good start.
I like this one.
calypsosoca if that happens they’ll have enough to replace it with a new one
Even though I'm in England, I'd do that.
@@exteriorcrod2998 not sure if you understood what they were actually explaining in the video about old iron. ;-)
Massive congratulations Nick and Kathleen and the whole Welker family on your forthcoming addition!! Knew I was right following my comment on your previous video ;-)
i find this is end up going to be a challenge for the fans out here
Congratulations on the new addition to your family
God bless you and your family
With as little rain as you get have you tried running crops like dry land pinto beans? Here in southwest Colorado we don't get much rain either and the best crops are wheat, alfalfa, or pintos.
Kieranhal84 I can’t believe that alfalfa grows in dryer land here we grow it and it thrives in rain
Congratulations Nick and family from Australia
Congratulation Nick on the good news about baby.
You could easily spend 100,000. dollars getting the Versatile up and running.
Congratulations Nick for the baby..You should sell that versatile and build a new shed for your machines!!!
The first and biggest questions is, do you NEED it? If no then its not worth it, however if you do need it and its the cheapest option then go for it.
Congratulations on the baby!!!
Buy a 4wd cement mixer with a Wabco xfer case, use the entire driveline. It will have a a PTO and the drop box.
@@joescheller6680 lol. I helped put a pto box in a 2470.
Congratulations to you and your wife, Nick. Thanks for the video. Enjoy your downtime.
Congrats !!!!!!! Best wishes to you and your lovely wife.
Great video and Congrats on your new baby and I would love to see that versatile get restored and up and running again
Congratulations... God, Family, and the American Way. Happy for you both.
Could you convert it to be like the bud with a trans and drop chain case?
That would be one option if rebuild is decided
Congratulations on the baby boy!
1984 is my year of birth. Because of that (and also for being a great machine) I would love to see it restored.
Congrats on the baby boy love the vids keep it up
Just a thought, but you can buy a old clark michigan 275b wheel loader with a 4 speed powershift.
👍
21:45 , What those weird faces next to the Teleskid? Do you guys own it now or something? You guys had it for awhile and I hope you do, I love watching that thing haha!
You mean 21:45 and they dont own it , it was like a demo to them
21:45 Ooops .. they got a killer deal or it was donated
Congratulations on the new addition to the family!
Honestly you should ask for donations! I am shure a lot of your subscribers would donate a dollar or two or even more...
That might bring in the money for a good part of the restoration.
So I would definetly recomend that!!!
Greetings from Germany, keep up the good work ;)
Please do more of these! Really enjoyed the mechanical and technical explanations
Congrats with the baby best wishes for you guys
Nick get hold of Mike Less he works for Versatile and travels Canada and USA He just may have some great contacts for you.
Congratss Nick and family.
The Versatile should be rebuild better then it was! Old iron like these fine pieces should never be scrapped! Old is gold! Open a funn raising for this beast and make her come to life aggain!
Congrats Welker Family!!! Respectfully, I think money better invested elsewhere.
Thank you!
Totally agree......Build a Machinery Shed
these guys have long winters so lots of shed time
Good luck with the rain you need soon for a bumper crop.
Thanks for teaching me today!
you should look in to a diesel over electric conversion on the versatile
Congrats on your family status. I really enjoy watching your content and seeing how you guys get things done. Awesome. God bless you and all of your family.
