I have half a million subscribers on UA-cam, almost half a million on Facebook, almost half a million on TikTok, and it's not the best or the biggest but I independently have half a billion streams and I still come here to see what my boy Nic D has to school us on. Much love on the success and for passing the game you learn 💯💯🎶🎶
i got less than 1000 on spotify but been applying Nic D strategy for 2024 and i've seen the huge improvements already. I'm gotten 25 radio plays which is 25 more than i had before utilizing this strategy since the beginning of 2024. it will be interesting to see the results by the end of the year!
The streams are adding up 😢 im at 12 monthly streams i came to see what NicD was going to edu. Us with..@@RichardRosiles... You guys feel like you almost went crazy trying to find community for your music?
I think it’s nice that you said subscribe at the end because sometimes people just forget that what they just watch is an insane flow of information that come from a really authentic place! Thanks Nic !!
For me personally TikTok has been a nightmare. First of all if you distributed your music to TikTok you now cannot use the audio of that song independently as it will cut the sound from the video for copyright. Two - if you find your song from TikTok music library to use in the video - you now cannot promote that video because it has the “commercial song”. Three when I post the same video on TikTok and instagram, insta gives me 200 followers, 1000 likes and 50 comments while TikTok gives me 1 like on the best day. And 4 - whenever my song did get some attention on TikTok as it did on instagram, 99% of the comments on insta were positive and people were asking if the full song is released, while on TikTok 99% were negative and were just trashing my looks, my eyes, my appearance, my speech, the font etc. F TikTok, hopefully all labels pull their music out of there. Good for UMG and their artists, wish I was signed by them.
This just re-enforces my stance that it's always better to be independent. You always have full control over everything and don't have to worry about things like this :)

Nic, would love to here what you do for publishing and royalty collection on songs. I'm getting hounded by the industry because I haven't set up anything besides ASCAP. Thanks for your time!
I've really been enjoying your videos. Very helpful. Dig your music as well. I just started putting out new songs again after a decade without a release. Keep the helpful tips coming! We appreciate it.
Dude, you cracking me up… I just dropped a couple weeks ago and I’m doing pretty good on the old spotty… Same name as here… But that’s cool to know dude! I like the way you perspective all of these new traditions we’re making here… I come from old-school radio 1st- don’t call her to come back 😝 cool video bro
Ayeeee, love all your videos, Nic! Question, so i just put out a new tune with distrokid and had it published to tiktok, but when i go to my song on TikTok to attach to my videos, it says it "isn't licensed for commercial use" what should I do? let me know 😭😭😭😭
I think this is a good thing for most of us (Including many label artists). Have spoke to some that get really stressed about the tik tok grind, this will take a lot of weight off their shoulders, and at the same time open up opportunity for hungry unsigned artist.
Any tips for somebody with no singing capabilities who makes instrumental music - can that still work or is it too niched to blow up? How would you go about making content?
what disturbing would you recommend i plan on using your skits and short form to my advantage! do you mix and master your own stuff am diving deep into the producing am gunna be using cryro mix a ai mixer and master but ive been writing for 6 years and have got the blue print and make really good music been learning hit song remedys im from the same area as the Beatles john lennon and paul mc lived a stones frow away love your music
Nic can you drop a video on what equipment you’d recommend to start a “home studio?” Buying studio time is a huge barrier for me to be able to release a song a week but no idea where to begin
Hey Nic! Good to see you in this channel again! Quick question! I purchased your book on December 29th and still hasn't arrived. I guessed it would take a while to be shipped to Spain, but I contacted via email and had no response. No clue when the physical book will arrive. I downloaded the digital assets instantly, no problem, and I read the book that way. It's not a big deal, but I'd like to have the real thing in my hands! Btw, regarding the video, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I'll also keep an eye open for the development of a new app or platform maybe, to not be late in the next big thing, I don't know.
iPhone most of the time will do the trick, although If you want something more professional, look up Sony ZV-E10, it's a great entry camera for content creation
So what happens to the videos people made with those videos? Do they go away? I usually only use Connor Price songs for my videos anyway haha but just wondering
while i don't think it was a good idea for UMG to pull everything from tiktok, it's also hard for me to see profiles that just upload full seasons of TV shows and not think "yeaaaah someone should probably advocate for this to change"
nah, it happened because UMG got greedy, TikTok runs the music industry right now and has led a ton of marketing for UMG. UMG wanted a bigger cut of the check for themselves
@@threethievesmusic heck ya thx! I don’t know I almost feel like it’s a little too late and the ones who made it are the ones who got the views. But I don’t wanna make excuses.

Well done. Wonderful to see Independent Artists earning from their music. 🎵🎶
Strike while the iron’s hot ..I’ve always kept that phrase in mind 🔥🔥
The time is now my friends, the time is now.

I find the Music Industry very DARK, so there is no way I would encourage our daughter to sign to a Record Label. Thank you for your videos.

This also means less competition and more cake for us smaller artist.🎉

I`ve just started, heard the news... I honestly I think it can be an opportunity for indie artists to shine and innovate... 🎶🎶
This also sounds like an opportunity for the rest of us.

I wouldn't be surprised if they make their own app
Tik-Tok music is coming. It's already in development.

If you are releasing on all platforms your music is here on youtube but you have to claim your artist profile
Finally you're back! great insight! its time to get to work.. You should make a video breaking down content creation strategies!
Dude you don't how long I been waiting for you to post another video...keep em coming brother🚀❤️
Yesssss Let's Go BABY! Independent Artist are here!
Where
I love these videos without crazy editing and cuts. Keep em coming
Cheers for the heads up. Feels like I been waiting forever for some Nic D advice. Appreciate you
I am still trying to work out what works on tiktok for numetal / metalcore style music. But this takes away a lot of competition for sure
Been waiting for a new video since forever 😭 thank you!
I just became independent after 4 years of being signed and I've never been more pumped after what has just gone down.

I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR A NEW NIC D UPLOAD YESSSS
Yay new video!!! 🎉
Also, guys get the book! I Absolutely recommend it! 🌟
I’ve noticed adding my own sounds distributed thru tune core is absolutely broken. anyone having a similar struggle? 🤔

A Computer with a daw of choice, a decent mic sm7b, great headphone ath m50x.

gotta be independent
Thanks for sharing your thoughts man.

pretty sure his book was just sold digitally
@@RichardRosiles Really? I don't know why my address was asked then 😅
I read it on my ipad and it was great anyway! So no problem at all
does a larger company own distrokid?
it would suck if they were messed with like this
What’s the best content for me to post to grow ?
Hard question to answer, I’m still trying to figure that out.
bro.. comments are just full of artists... come on lets work guys
Nic! WIIIIILD!!! Let’s go make some music!!
Thank you for this content ❤
This is dope! Thank you Nick
What cameras would you recommend for independent artists looking to film better content? I just bought dji osmo pocket, still getting used to using it
The best camera is the one you have right now. I phone will more than suffice, I use it for everything.
@@threethievesmusic you’re videos look very clear. You must have a newer iphone? I have 11pro my videos were so blurry I needed upgrade

Learned so much with your videos nic. Could u make one about creating content? Thanks from Brasil 🙏🏼🇧🇷
what distro would you reccomend thats not ownded by umg
You’re backkk 🎉
Does that mean I can pretty much stop using TikTok?
Thought that was Rory in the thumbnail 😂
ayyy he’s back
yes they are going crazy
I want to build a fanbase on youtube for driving traffic to artists in my own personal playlists.
you need to drop more videos
More music 😂
So what happens to the videos people made with those videos? Do they go away? I usually only use Connor Price songs for my videos anyway haha but just wondering
Would love to hear your thoughts in a new video as this progresses
🎯 Big opportunity for sure!
Ouu boyy!!! coming in hot!!!
Let's go
Good info very motivated now 🔥
now we can't even post videos inside any live show or anything with their songs in the back.
THANK YOU
Does UMG own distrokid? This might be a dumb question. Just wanna know
👍
I fucking love you my boyyyyyyyyy
I've been hesitant to get a TikTok, but I guess the time has come! I shall strike mightily while the iron is hot!
while i don't think it was a good idea for UMG to pull everything from tiktok, it's also hard for me to see profiles that just upload full seasons of TV shows and not think "yeaaaah someone should probably advocate for this to change"
What's the point in having your own label if another company can just decide to pull your music?
Thx Nick Am Going Full Gunz Right Now Lol!
If I had an Epic hat like this I could rule the world! #hatenvy
I think I heard it from Skrillex (and I paraphrasing here) this is a good opportunity for indie artist to take advantage of this situation.
Where can I find this?
idk man tt not messing w me lately
i think not all distribution company are under UmG
This happened because Tiktok isn't paying high enough royalties for UMG artists.
nah, it happened because UMG got greedy, TikTok runs the music industry right now and has led a ton of marketing for UMG. UMG wanted a bigger cut of the check for themselves
@RichardRosiles maybe @frdiforartists can share their royalty revenues from Tiktok and compare how much he makes per stream vs. the other platforms.
All these UMG artists are now in same condition as me lol... (tiktok is banned in my country)
Or UMG knows something we don't - TikTok might be on the way out
What does that mean, real estate just opened up?
haha i get u like evryones like subscribe! like they dont know where the button is hahaha
hey I can't get more than 300 views on TikTok anymore on any vid even new account. old account 5k followers.. hmm
Same in 300 view jail, trying all sorts of content to break out. Will report back if I find an escape route!
