Hi Zak, I’ve been watching your vids even before I took possession of my labrador retriever(8 weeks and 1 day) and I’d like to say thanks for the free training tips. 😀 I’ve had him for 4 days and been using all your tips (except clicker training) and it’s finally coming together. Positive reinforcement and distractive training is key. The most important tip from you is a tired dog is a trainable one. I take him for a 20-30 minute walk every morning and he is so much more trainable now. Thanks again.
Your videos help me SO MUCH. We currently have a 6 months old puppy and I get frustrated very quickly or I get an attitude quickly because I am a very impatient person BUT I know it‘s wrong because dogs can feel your energy. Seeing how calm you train your dog helps me to be more calm with mine and of course your tipps are amazing!🙏🏽 a big issue with our puppy is that she always wants to eat everything off the ground when we go for a walk. It has also caused her to throw up before😫

Zak, thanks so much for the video. It's great to see what progression looks like with a dog trainer's dog. Looks a lot like my 13 week old goldendoodle. I’ve never seen a guy have so many pairs of shoes! No wonder why Inertia wants to keep checking them all out lol! But on a more serious note, these videos are so helpful because we currently have a new puppy the same age Inertia was for this series.
The figure 8 training is easier if you hold a threat in each hand so you don't have constantly grab the threat with your other hand. Especially when you just starting it is hard enough to get the dog to follow you're hand, giving the threat to you're other hand make things even more difficult. Keeping things as simple as possible increases the change of success. Learning any new thing comes with up & downs, so when the errors start to pile up of the dog get confused, increase the threat interval or give a command that you're dog knows very well and take a short break. We normally advise to limit trick learning sessions to 3 minutes. Learning is mentally exhausting for a dog, so make sure you're puppy also get enough rest. Resting doesn't necessarily mean don't do nothing. Resting is anything that brings down the activity pace. Just walking around the room can also get the dog in a more relaxed state.. Remember that each dog is different. What works for one dog, might not work for another dog.. My Border Collie loves soccer balls, but tent to want to pick 'm up and carry them to me by biting the ball. So I got a rubber ball at the same size which are meant for dogs and I usually let her herd the ball back to me. Herding balls is the minimal and basic behavior in order to learn treibbal. Treibbal is a dog sport when you dog needs to push balls with their nose into a certain area. Usually a field hockey goal to start of 'easy'. When the dog gets more experienced with theibbal they have to herd (3 or 4) balls into a small circle (4 ft diameter) like a hulahoop and the dog that does that in the shortest amount of time wins the game. But herding a ball is a great way to get rid of excess energy before training, especially when you're at you local dog school and the dog is all excited by meeting and playing with other dogs.. Because herding is exhausting, the dog is calmer and tends to follow instructions a bit better. Also here make sure you take short breaks during the training session especially when you have a puppy that is less then 6 months old. Personally I don't really train puppies, but I do sometimes help or fill in when one of the regular instructors is sick. I normally give and advanced agility course for work dogs (border collies, retrievers and sheperds mostly) when we turn a regular agility field more into a 'military' obstacle course with nets which they need to crawl underneat, multiple tunnel segments joined together, small balance beams (4 inches wide, like used by gymnastics), longer weaves with poles, add some doggy dance moves (turns, twists, figure 8, weave between legs), catwalks (high balance beam - 10 inches wide, but 6-7 ft of the ground), etc. Every month we also create a large figure 8 race when dogs and trainers have to cross each other in the figure 8. We often also performs this trick because it is received well with demos and it looks funny. This is actually a very difficult exercise for both the trainer and the dog as is it easy to get distracted by crossing dogs, trainers need to get the timing (speed) correct. Normally we start with a slow pace, but after three rounds we start to pickup the pace up to the points the trainers are in a running mode (about 5mph). I have a 10 minute Syrtaki (aka Zorba's dance) track with is great for setting the pace. Plus the audience usually start to clap with the music which of course if also a distracting factor for the dogs, but it is great fun!
My 6 month old border collie will literally not settle at all, he is on the go from morning to night regardless of how much exercise and training he gets! I’m so stressed all the time because I can’t even sit down for 5 minutes without him starting his chewing or barking to get my attention or a response out of me 🤦🏻♀️ Starting to feel so defeated that he will never settle down! Hoping I can pick up some tips from these videos since they are specifically training a border collie! Need all the help I can get!
my dog is gonna be a year old in february and he still bites he wont stop and he is super hyper around people/ animals and we want to take him places without him getting too distracted or like chase something or someone/animal so ive been trying to calm him down he is a australian shepherd he is very hyper but just too hyper like i have to put him in his kennel if people come over or he will get so excited and jump all over them and wont just let them hang out😕 and when we go on walks he pulls and if he sees a animal he tries to get it. Or if he sees a person he wants to play so he starts barking and pulling and i try so hard to work with him he just itsnf getting it so if you have any idea comment please ) edit: btw if you read this thanks😂 i wrote a lot on accident
I’ve been a long follower of this channel and I truly adore how you teach your dog and your methodology. I don’t mean to criticise but it doesn’t seem natural for a dog to be perfectly well behaved. The most fun thing about dogs is their mischievousness and energy. Seeing those torn pillows and mattresses is what adds that missing part in your life. A perfectly well behaved dog seems kind of like unnatural in this situation. Anyway great videos
Getting to see the little moments when Inertia doesn’t get it immediately and seeing what you do then is SO HELPFUL!

I loved that episode!!!! 😱💞
Hello Zak what’s good man

Good information
I have an Australian cattle dog cross kelpie cross Border collie he has a lot energy I walk him 5 to 6 times a day
How long does the average lesson go for with Inertia?
Or if he sees a person he wants to play so he starts barking and pulling and i try so hard to work with him he just itsnf getting it so if you have any idea comment please )
edit: btw if you read this thanks😂 i wrote a lot on accident
I’ve been a long follower of this channel and I truly adore how you teach your dog and your methodology. I don’t mean to criticise but it doesn’t seem natural for a dog to be perfectly well behaved. The most fun thing about dogs is their mischievousness and energy. Seeing those torn pillows and mattresses is what adds that missing part in your life. A perfectly well behaved dog seems kind of like unnatural in this situation. Anyway great videos
Finally we have a Zak gorge foot reveal, all in the sake of youtube
You have taught me so much, thank you so much! 💜
