This is real hardcore punk. A total classic.
Amen
Best band ever 👊
I met Ian in a club one weekend in D.C. in 86 and was bemoaning the death of Minor Threat when he laughed told me who he was and that he had a new band called Fugazi and invited me to the show that Thursday. The problem was that I was in the Marine Infantry Officer Course in Quantico, at least an hour away and I had to be at work at 0700 the next morning. Of course I went. Dealing with a hangover and lack of sleep at 25 is worth it.
Short and to the point. That's the essence of punk. Intense sweaty shows, not a ton of banter in between songs. 🔥
And foul-mouthed. Don't forget foul-mouthed.
Minor threat was never a punk band. They were a hardcore band.
@@ronprice1819 hardcore is a style of punk smart one
@@bigcheese2128 I know all about it. Just mentioned that because at the time the kids didn't really feel what they were doing was really punk. They had their own identity. And it was hardcore that was short and fast more so than punk. Traditional punk was fast for the time. But really it was more just like sleezy rock n' roll...
ua-cam.com/video/FpJoeXZxpqQ/v-deo.html
Minor Threat … as essential as BLACK FLAG, Dead Kennedys , Bad Brains, and The Misfits .
Don't forget TSOL... They influenced a lot of the metal/industrial scene in the mid-80s through the mid-90s. The Dead Kennedys were my favorite (the most intelligent and musically intetesting punk), but TSOL deserves props for their impact.
@@wadsworthaaron : Yes, they do . Just as the Cromags and Agnostic Front do also . I purposely made a short list strictly from the first wave ( or Vanguard) of American Hard Core Luminaries ; Who emerged ( Post RAMONES ) like wild eyed survivors from the after math of some nuclear assault .
@@wadsworthaaron Code Blue!!!!!!
@@icepick1514 check out bouncing souls cover, from punk rock jukebox. one of the best covers ever made.
KIA ORA HELLO FROM AOTEAROA NEW ZEALAND PHLUCKING TRUER WORD'S NEVER BEEN SPOKEN
Great stuff! Minor Threat - Complete Discography was a big album for me. Some great hardcore punk rock!
Same 🤘
Instant love. Completely smitten for 20 years.
Ian MacKaye was about 18 to 21 during the years Minor Threat existed.
Minor Threat is typically what you think of when you hear “D.C. Hardcore,” the prime time of the genre.
I always thought the germs started hardcore/more aggressive punk along with black flags in the mid to late 70’s
Love that you guys are getting hardcore punk like this. Is an an acquired taste for most, you punks fit right in!
People don't review hardcore & Punk enough. You guys have reviewed alot! Thank you so much.
Minor Threat was an American hardcore punk band, formed in 1980 in Washington, D.C., by vocalist Ian MacKaye and drummer Jeff Nelson. MacKaye and Nelson had played in several other bands together, and recruited bassist Brian Baker and guitarist Lyle Preslar to form Minor Threat. They added a fifth member, Steve Hansgen, in 1982, playing bass, while Baker switched to second guitar.
The band was relatively short-lived, disbanding after only three years together, but had a strong influence on the punk scene, both stylistically and in establishing a "do it yourself" ethic for music distribution and concert promotion. Minor Threat's song "Straight Edge" became the eventual basis of the straight edge movement, which emphasized a lifestyle without alcohol or other drugs, or promiscuous sex.[1] AllMusic described Minor Threat's music as "iconic"[2] and noted that their groundbreaking music "has held up better than [that of] most of their contemporaries."[3]
Along with the fellow Washington, D.C. hardcore band Bad Brains and California band Black Flag, Minor Threat set the standard for many hardcore punk bands in the 1980s and 1990s. All of Minor Threat's recordings were released on MacKaye's and Nelson's own label, Dischord Records. The Minor Threat EP and their only full-length studio album Out of Step have received a number of accolades and are cited as landmarks of the hardcore punk genre.[4][5]
lead singer Ian mackaye & henry rollins grew up together as teens in D.C. Henry spoke about this in Human Butt spoken word 89'-90'
Ian Mackaye is a legend more into fugazi but minor threat are great as well and I suggest checking out his other band the evens brilliant too. Then look into his ideology he is one of the most interesting personalities in the whole punk scene and a lesson in how to conduct yourself a true hero
Lex has charisma through the roof! Cute, total sweetheart. I love her take on the song as well, she really gets it.
y'all must be on a hardcore journey. First Bad Brains, and now Minor Threat! YEEEEESSSSSS
Ian Mackaye was in Minor Threat and Fugazi, he was very influential in the creation of the Straight Edge movement, and he started the influential label Dischord. He is a modern renaissance man.
39 years after first hearing MINOR THREAT THEY ARE STILL TOP FIVE FOR ME. THE CLASH THE RAMONE'S BAD BRAINS MINOR THREAT BLACK FLAG
Blaine and Alex are my close friends
@@bayareathrasher666 Let them know 👍👍👏👏👏👍👍✌️ AWESOME
Do more punk! Yall should def check out the song "Minor threat" by minor threat its an iconic song from the legendary band, or "Salad days", and i dont think this song is particularly abt parents lmao
Minor Threat is pure gold!
Minor Threat was also a huge influence on Sublime! The boys even covered the song Minor Threat.
Love This Song!!!!! Probably my favorite Minor Threat song! You two always pick out the cream of the crop!
In your face is what punk music is and is essentially what rock n roll is all about
YEEEAAAHHHHHHH! Minor Threat is awesome. You definitely ‘got it’ with the vibe of it. It’s the attitude. Also a lot of Punk shows/concerts will play 2-3 songs right through without really stopping, as per your comment on how short the songs are.
Check out Straight Edge, pretty much started the drug free punk movement. Also check out the band DESCENDENTS, original pop-punk.
Love almost anything that Minor Threat did!
I still like it more than a lot of what’s being put out today. It’s all about the vibe, there’s definitely a time and a place for it!
Minor Threat was the first Hardcore band I ever heard, Black Flag soon after. I guess this was around 82 or 83. It changed my life.
Minor Threat had one of the coolest guitar distortion sounds of any band. I gotta revisit their catalog.
This is refreshing to see people react to some PROPER hardcore punk! Minor Threat were the folks who unknowingly birthed the straight edge subculture of no drink & no drugs. They are also one of the most talked about bands like Bad Brains, in terms of the wild nature of their shows!
Once again, kudos for delving in to the hardcore punk subgenre :)
Awesome songs today!
This should lead you to New York Hardcore music. That would be great to react to haven’t seen it done by anyone yet. You could try Earth Crisis, Gorilla Biscuits, Sick of it All , Burn , Vision , Terror and so many more great bands check it out you won’t be disappointed
Gorilla Biscuits!!! Got their GB logo tattooed on my left shoulder!!
You mean Boston HC
What I was saying is now you should check out some New York hardcore bands
You should listen to the band MURPHYS LAW , they were a fun hardcore band from New York City. BBQ is a funny great song.

When my list if the 15 best punk albums was published on Analog Planet site, it contained Minor Threat's 2 EP's on 1 LP. And MT and Stiff Little Fingers are the two most inspirational bands I've ever seen live. Seeing them could change your life, and always for the better.
Noticed your Sublime t-shirt...I met them in Costa Rica and they stayed at the house I was renting once back in the early 90's.they wanted to sell me a CD ,but I said no thanks..I never thought they would become famous ...about 10 years later at a buddies house,I heard the album I refused to buy and I asked if there was a dalmatian on the cover?..he said yes,I said I petted that dog,and I realized they had become famous(to my great surprise)..I actually hung out with them and got to know them a bit..one guy spoke Spanish really well like a Mexican and that would make the Costa Ricans laugh ,so I asked him why and he told me he learned Spanish dealing heroin with Mexicans.. so I laughed, and he said "don't laugh because it is the truth" in a very serious tone...I think he has since died of an overdose...
Hey, I've been immersed in Charles Bronson's discography for years, and they're more than just a punk band - they're a sonic force. Their hardcore punk isn't just fast; it's a visceral experience, especially in albums like "Youth Attack!" and "Complete Discocrappy."
What sets them apart is the genius use of movie samples at the start of some tracks. It's like they're creating a punk soundtrack infused with cinematic vibes. This unique touch adds depth to their music, making each song more than just a sonic assault.
Here are my top 5 Charles Bronson songs that you've got to check out:
1. "Close Encounters of the Nerd Kind"
2. "Tony Victory Knows How to Party"
3. "Standing in front of bulldog records"
4. "The Kids Are Gonna Stick Together"
5. "OLC Goes on Slimfast"
I've delved into the band's history, and their lyrics dive deep into societal issues with a touch of satire. It's not just about speed; it's a rebellious journey through punk ethos and DIY culture.
If you're into raw energy, thought-provoking lyrics, and a unique blend of punk and cinema, Charles Bronson is a must-listen. They've been a staple in my playlist for years, and I guarantee you'll find something special in their music. Give it a shot, and let the intensity speak for itself. 🤘
Growing up minor threat was a staple at my school. They were the first band of their kind that I actually loved.
Minor Threat were pioneers of the Straight Edge movement. No drinking, no drugs, no sex…. It was a way to rebel against the excesses of society.
This is the stuff I grew up with. Love it. I’ve graduated to Deathgrind now, but this brings back memories.
Hell yeah! do more.
Subhumans "Zyklon-B Movie"
Operation Ivy "Sound System" "Knowledge"
some The Vandals, Wasted Youth and T.S.O.L. and all that good stuff.
🤘💀👍
This was one of the records I had in heavy rotation when I was 14 & 15. I still own this record and have it on my iPod. Chances are, if you’re in my car, you’ll hear a Minor Threat song.
Also, the singe of Minor Threat, Ian McKaye, is the singer/guitarist of the band Fugazi.
DRI. THE Misfits. The operators!! So many awesome punk bands!! Do it! 🤩 Love you guys!
you guys NEEEEED to go to a punk rock show and film your reaction! All your questions from the end of this vid will be answered and you'll be fans for life. Love to see it. Great vid as usual :)
This is the birth of "hardcore," when punk began to branch off into subgenres.
The had a concert in DC where Troublefunk opened. That was great. The club played Sinatra after the show to get us to leave. It worked
Gotta say I ain't seen a reaction video to this legendary song and band ever so fuck yes I love it
Oh hell yeah.. historic and iconic. We did rites of spring on our channel. Another iconic dc punk band and the birth of 'emo'.
minor threat has a short but perfect discography
YYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSSSS! Glad you are digging it. Minor Threat were a very important band to me.
Minor Threat - next level 🤘🤘🤘
MINOR THREAT, the most important Hard Core band. Straight Edge is essential listening.
The Hard Core mantra: LOUD, FAST, SHORT
I'm such a fan of old school punk. Crossover punk is amazing as well. Check out The Accused. Incredible band.
YES! You've now reacted to all of my Top 5 bands!
Minor threat, Black Flag, Descedants. Gods of hardcore
This is the dope shit...I still own both lps from the early 80's from them I bought back then.
Another great early punk song is 1945...from Social Distortion. Great 3 song record. Still own that one as well. Mommies little monster is a great punk album as well from Social Distortion.
Short, fast, angry and straight to the point. No guitar solos or very short solos. Punk lol
Omg, that you listened to this song... Amazing. Please follow this bands rabbit hole. CIV, gorilla biscuits, operation ivy, fugazi... There's so much.
Good song from a great album! Never got to see these guys live...but I sure wanted to!
More Minor Threat please :)
THIS is hardcore punk. I love it. I have a minor threat tattoo!!! I love that you guys are listening to things beyond the mainstream. Kudos to you!
Top three in punk hardcore,Fuck yes!
oh man Minor Threat/Fugazi make me wanna bust out my skateboard....too old for that now lol but these are skate jams.
The first time I heard them, I was blown away by the fact that a band could sound like this yet sing about being straight edge. Up to that point, I associated punk rock with drugs, alcohol, anarchy, and other nihilistic behavior. The singer's later group Fugazi became one of my all time favorite bands.
they were straight edge?
@@mr.hedgehog420 Yes, they literally had a song called "Straight Edge." Not sure if the whole band was. Ian said it wasn't a set of rules or some manifesto, just his personal beliefs of how he lived his life. This is mentioned in the re-recording of "Out of Step."
@@MadSlantedPowers wow i never knew. i always thought that song was making fun of straight edge people for thinking they were better than others.
If I remember they're the ones that coined the term with that song
Speaking of songs that last a minute, you should check out the band The Minutemen. They have entire albums of super short songs, but they were catchy. Double Nickels on the Dime is one of my all time favorite albums.
Minor Threat. Wow. I'm impressed
DC straight edge hardcore at it's finest
Check out Black Flag and the Circle Jerks and the history behind those bands and the bands they spawned. Very influential yet underrated
Most Punk band's live sets were actually 15 to 20 minutes usually.
Welcome the best era of true punk rock!
Supposedly an important band . I cant tell them apart from hundreds of other underground bands .
If you ever do a reaction to movies, try The Decline of Western Civilization! A decent documentary about several "big" punk groups in the late 70's. early 80's. Mostly Cali bands, X, The Germs, Black Flag and several more. Almost depressing on how they lived, but that was the punk lifestyle! Thank you for the punk rock reactions!!
i love that you guys do these reaction videos for bands that aren’t that well known. if you listen to punk everyone knows minor threat but the vast majority of people don’t and it’s cool to see you guys giving it a shot and even being into it. this type of music is definitely not for everyone haha
AGENT ORANGE made me subscribe to your channell, MINOR THREAT proved i'm right. A classic!
Remind me of my 90 year old aunt yesterday. I ask her what time it was she said it was" shut the hell up and get out of my face Im drinking a bud listing to led zeppelin TIME" LOL
Lol, D.O.A.’s slogan goes along w yr analysis: Talk minus Action equals Zero.
This is a real hardcore song. Wow. Amazing job guys.
YES!!!
Her face says it all!!!
Ah, you are touching all of my musical memories on this page...
And I do wanna hear it!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha..Ha.. Love that you guys did this one. You kids are the best...
Short, sweet, and to the point. Love this track.
I love his voice so much and I also loved the pic on the cover. Never imagined I'd be watching young people reacting to this on YT 😅 I mean, there wasn't even the internet back then. Wow.
This music saved my life and my sanity as an angry alienated adolescent. So fun seeing you appreciate it.
Pure punk rock! Perfect reaction you two! Try "Filler" from Minor Threat next. Even grittier and meaner than this one.
This is right up there with Circle jerks red tape, NOFX stickin in my eye, TSOL code blue - but this group was special because they were all straight edge!
"This is no set of rules
I'm not telling you what to do
All I'm saying, is I'm bringing up three things
That are like so important to the whole world
That I don't have to find much importance in"
Real Punk pioneers
Love your vids, both of you ate great!
Definitely in love with Lex! 🙂
I grew up in the DC Hardcore scene and love that you guys dig my favorite band of the day.
You already heard this singer because you already reacted to Fugazi (Waiting Room). If you want to see how punk evolved, listen to more Fugazi. They are one of the great bands of any genre.
I’m not a huge Minor Threat fan (though I love this song)…but this song is pretty much the epitome of punk rock!
I'm digging this channel. You guys are exploring everything! Even diving into the hardcore punk rock... try Less than Jake, more Rancid, The Real McKenzies, NOFX, Pennywise, Bouncing Souls and on and on
Love this!
Lol. Of course Brad goes to it’s about the parents. Yes, that’s exactly where a young punk hardcore band was coming from.
This song goes through my head every time my wife talks to me
Legendary sound and band.
Wow I only discovered you guys today but I've been binging your content all afternoon! And now you go and do this! amazing. I'm more of a 'contemporary' fugazi fan but Minor threat are ok too lol!
I would wager you guys weren't even born when this was blowing up my record player Lol. There will never be another Minor Threat. Enjoyed your reaction video.
This is the band that some of the dudes, including Ian, the singer, from Minor Threat were in prior to Fugazi.
I think this is what the grown-ups were hearing when I was listening to Rush In the late 70s.
Now we're talkin! More please...and Fugazi should be on your short list.
Classic!
Brad flipped it on the parents!
Fugazi - Waiting room.... a classic
How is it that I’ve yet to comment on this? One of the best songs by one of the best bands…love y’all carry on
Still love how lex know
