    Cool. Thanks for that. I travel a lot for my pictures too, and sleep in the car, but it's a bit smaller and I take very little with me. One thing you should have is a real coffee machine...I have a small one which plugs into the cigarette lighter and makes real coffee. I also carry my Bialetti and use it when I have the chance to make a small fire

      I actually enjoy instant coffee quite a lot! I know, it's not everyone, but I like it :) Those stovetop coffee makers are really cool, I use them at home. Fires are cool but I'm not a big fan, it makes me and my clothes stink haha, and then I have to find a place to take a shower / do laundry more often. I'm just very practical when it comes to this.

    Gas in Europe may be expensive, but it’s also much higher octane. In Toronto, where I’m from, I paid about $1.50 per litre for 87 octane which I use in my 4.6L V8 and it runs fine and saves me a lot of money over the 94 octane which is the highest we can buy at the pump.

    • @aows
      @aows  2 роки тому +2

      That's a good point, but I think you can't compare the numbers directly, there are some differences. Apparently, EU 95 octanes = US 91 octanes. The formula is different.

    Man, what an experience you are living! I wonder how is it gonna be to go back to a "classic city life" (you may be living in the country side, if so, lucky you!). All this freedom you created by choosing a simple and quite minimalist way of living photography is beautiful and quite inspiring. But I guess the loneliness can be sometimes taxing. I wonder how all these conditions will, in the end, impact on your photographs, independently of the wild power of those landscapes. But for now, enjoy and thanks for sharing!

    • @aows
      @aows  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, Calie! Yes, going back home is going to be a shock. I don't really have a permanent home, but I spend most of my time in the country side. Or at least, the towns were I live are really small. And yes, it can get very lonely out there, but it's easier knowing you have people to go back to after this. Knowing that this trip might be a once-in-a-lifetime thing makes you appreciate it even more and savor every minute, even if it's raining, cold, and dark. Thank you so much for watching!

      @@calieeldalie2547 absolutely. Getting lost, breaking your routine, taking a risk, feeling lonely... every once in a while can be very healthy, I believe. As you say, it might show you something about yourself you weren't aware of.

    Thanks for the tour. I was wondering if you've had any challenges regarding finding facilities to wash your clothes. And how often do you need to do that? Also, considering your height, do you feel that you have sufficient sleeping length in your vehicle? I thought your idea of using an AirTag on your keychain was a very good one. Losing your keys in such a remote location could be quite disastrous.

      Hi, Bob! So I was doing laundry every couple of weeks or so. Most of the times I did it at campgrounds, but there are other places where you can do it. Laundromats are very rare, though, which is too bad. I'm 6'2" (185cm) and had no problem fitting in the back of the car, but I had to push the passenger seat forward a little bit so I could stretch my legs.

    • @azfactor7875
      @azfactor7875 2 роки тому +1

      Thank you for the reply, Adrian. I'm sure all of your previous photographic travels have prepared you well for this trip. I would love to see the places and things that you have. However, I think I would find it very hard being away from my wife and dog for that long. Do you find yourself feeling lonely at times and missing loved ones?

    • @aows
      @aows  2 роки тому

      @@azfactor7875 I totally understand where you are coming from, I do miss my wife very much. But I know I'll be seeing her soon enough, and I know I will missing this as well when that happens. So I guess the only thing we can do is to savor every minute no matter what we are doing. Everything is fleeting anyway.

    • @azfactor7875
      @azfactor7875 2 роки тому +1

      I hope that you have been able to at least have some "FaceTime" with your wife. And though being apart like that has a price, I doubt you will ever look back with regret on these trips, questioning your decision to go on your own. I know my wife never minds me taking the camera and using it on a vacation. but I always feel a bit guilty if I'm wandering about, considering things to photograph, while she patiently waits. It's as though I'm trying to be of two minds in one place.

    • @aows
      @aows  2 роки тому +1

      @@azfactor7875 We did! We stay in touch all day long, that's the good side of technology nowadays. And yes, I understand what you are saying, I bring a camera with me at all times but rarely do "serious" photography when I'm with my wife or someone else. I'll snap a picture here and there, but they are rarely good as I'm not really paying attention. If I do, then it takes a toll on the conversation and that makes me feel worse as well haha. It's a hard balance.

    What about a number 2 in the remote areas?

    • @aows
      @aows  2 роки тому

      Very good question, Eric! I forgot to show it because I had it under the driver's seat, but I got a portable, foldable toilet to use with bags. It was mainly for emergencies because I was able to find toilets most of the time, but depending on your skills to hold it, that portable toilet can be life saving.

    This is really cool. But say, have you considered renting an RV?

    • @aows
      @aows  2 роки тому

      I thought about it, but I decided not to. If you mean one to pull with the car, that'd make finding a place to spend the night difficult and it'd be a huge load for the car (worse mileage); a motorhome would be a better option but not as flexible when it comes to reaching some spots as a SUV, some roads are really narrow.
      It'd definitely be more comfortable inside, and the best option if you are on vacation just having fun. I think the car option was better for what I wanted to do here, take photos all day long :)

    Do you get harassed or questioned by police when you are staying overnight on the road side? Also, I don't know if you are on this trip now, but it's going to get much colder in the next 2 months for sleeping in a car.

    • @Wolf-qn1ec
      @Wolf-qn1ec 2 роки тому +1

      Sleeping in a car or a van is pretty common for tourists in northern countries like sweden and norway since you are allowed to camp there everywhere as long as you don't disturb other people or harm the environment.

    • @aows
      @aows  2 роки тому +2

      Hi, Steve! I had no problems at all staying on the side of the road. As long as you are not blocking any road / path, and you are 150m from the nearest house, you are good to go. I'm sure the car also helps, compared to a big RV.
      I'm still in Norway but staying in AirBnBs as of right now. The cold was a problem but I can deal with that. It was the non-stop rain and the very long nights that did it for me. It was nice while it lasted :)

    • @aows
      @aows  2 роки тому

      Yes. As long as you don't stay near houses, don't bother anyone, and clean up after yourself, you can spend the night there.
