Holy shot, Stock truly is large scale gambling, not just any gambling, bit world wide poker.
Just a single funny image, a single shift of someones pokerface caused hundreds of people to bet
It's more like betting ON a poker game. You know what your guy has in his hand, you don't know what cards are gonna come up, you don't know what the other players have. One guy twitches his nose wrong then suddenly there's a flood to change bets to someone else.
I hate stocks, I don't know how they work at all, I think they're so stupid. Things like this shows just how ridiculous and stupid the stock market is.
@erdtroll7010 Its not really just a large gambling game. Most times stock prices are changed by how much money the company makes or will make. However, as you can see game stops sales have been low but their stock blew up. While this can be a payout for the little guy, its really unstable
Not on bluechip stocks though. You have to be richer than Elon Musk to influence it

Not really. Roaring Kitty wasn't aware of the short. That was credit given in retro spect. His thoery was that Game Stop was a bad stock long term but was undervalued in the momment since the new console gen was around the corner. Because of his unrelated theory, he was the one to profit the most from the short squeeze, giving him authority among people he didn't want to worship him. He left the internet to avoid the conspiracies about any of his post from his followers as they started assigning greater meaning to posts than there was and then losing money.

It's crazy to me that a decade ago we were posting random images of animals with random captions and now, years later, the evolution of those images are now being seriously talked about in an educational sense.
Memes truly are just a development in our communication as a species. I wouldn't really say that it's a next step in our evolution(I like talking in meme img's but that feels like a neuro toxin after a while) but it's definitely something that would have developed eventually.

FYI, the impact of people going long on GME on institutional traders was actually relatively small. It was only really one hedge fund that got squeezed. Meanwhile, a bunch of other institutional traders came in and rode the hype train up and then left the majority of individual traders with the bag lol.
Don't bother buying GME now. The spike in value came and went and now it's on a decline.
Golden rule of stock trading is if you're hearing about it in the news, it's already too late.
It’s kind of incredible it’s a self people driven pump and dump scheme masquerading as a viable business receiving investment.
Coincidentally my dad was helping me get an E-trade account set up to do some stock trades but had problems so it wasn’t ready until way after the GameStop stock hype died down.

GME's price skyrocketing wasn't just because of a few memes. Hedge fund companies were short-selling the stock in MASSIVE quantities, to the point where they were shorting more stocks than existed. Wallstreetbets caught on to this, and took advantage of how the companies had to eventually buy back the stocks. Since now the demand far exceeded the availability of the stock, and average people weren't selling their shares, the price skyrocketed. This wasn't the fault of a shitposter, but that of corporate greed.

He's basically doing a pump and dump, he'll buy massive amount of stock, get a bunch of people to follow him so he can sell the stock to them at the higher price, most of them will lose money and he'll walk away rich.
