    I’m a big fan of SS Frets. Got a guitar with them on in 2019, and a little over three years down the road I still have no Discernable where. Thinking about getting my other main stage electric refretted with them very soon. If you practice a lot on the same guitar, or gig regularly like me it’s a very nice option.

    chip out is common for rosewood but it looks like the job was done well don't worry you won't have to do it again with stainless.

  • @1tdillon

    Interesting to hear and see the fretboard chipping and remaining excess glue. To be honest, your luthier should have filled the chips with fretboard dust and glue and definitely should have cleaned all the excess from the fingerboard. Pretty common for rosewood boards to chip when removing old frets, but a competent luthier will take this into consideration. Not ragging on your fret job, but feel strongly about luthiers doing decent, error free work. Glad you are happy with your re-frets. Love stainless and EVO frets and typically re-fret all my guitars with either one.

      Interesting input! It might be true, but it also does not affect my playing. It only affect my playing for the better with the new frets. ☺️ But again it’s interesting to hear other people’s opinion on it. Oo, EVO frets sounds interesting. What do you like about them, compared to CRES? :)

    Stainless steel frets makes strings last longer due to less friction and no oxydation starting points ;)

      Totally an opposite explanation Ive heard. Someone said that stainless steel frets wear out string faster. I could see this being the case only if the frets had a burr or wear rough I guess.

    • @boddumblues
      @boddumblues 3 роки тому +2

      Also; when metal meets metal it's always the softest metal that's gonna wear, so in this case the strings (nickel) unless you play SS strings FWIW

      Heavy play, lucky to get a two full weeks out of a pack. Usually change them after about a week. The wound strings wear first, so the winding will wear away on the D string at every fret. So they will wear faster than nickel frets. I love stainless frets though and wouldn’t go back

    I switched to evo gold a couple of years ago now on my strats. Main reason: I prefer vintage frets but I can't handle it when they wear/dink. There's just no margin for error with vintage frets. They are either BUTTER or BALLS. Have about 10, 000 hrs on my evo golds now and will never go back. The tools cost me about £400 including enough wire for 2 guitars. I figured out how to do it based on youtube videos.. anyone absolutely can and I strongly recommend it!

    Im currently restoring my old cheap japanese strat and the last step is refretting and stringing it up. I never laid a hand on a refretted guitar but I believe stainless steel makes your tone brighter. Furthermore, my priority when it comes to a strat will always be refretting then upgrading either the bridge or neck pickups. Likewise, slick playing and thanks for sharing!

    I put s.s. on my bass, and s.s. strings at the same time. It was horrible. I got flange - chorus efect so intense and even more string effect then you usually get with new strings that the actual tone was around 50‰ of overall sound. When I put on nickel strings it was a little better. I'm taking off s.s. frets for shure as soon as I can.

I do love the stainless jumbo on super strats like Suhr and Charvels. On a classic custom shop tele's l prefer these new super hard med jumbo nickel. (Just a person preference,) we will see if they start to become popular with time.

    that's weird that the 62 reissue had a thin neck...I thought they had thicker necks back in 62..and you say the pickups on the green one sounded so much better....you would think that the pickups in a USA made 62 reissue would be awesome...but so many variables and contradictions with guitars. Thank goodness I chose a silver sky for my first premium guitar because I was trying for the sound of Jimi-castles,little wing and the sound of Frusciante songs like under the bridge, scar tissue and gong li. The SS is expensive but consistent.Every one sounds almost exactly the same

      Personally I use Stringjoy Signatures, I checked and they’re nickel-wound, so stainless steel frets should work for me. Personally, ever since I found out about ss frets, Ive been wondering whether it’s made me greatly underestimate the durability of nickel frets. They probably wont deteriorate like butter by comparison, but Im a bit paranoid about it. Then again, refrets are always a possibility.
