Minecraft RTX on the "Minimum System Requirements"
Вставка
- Опубліковано 31 лип 2024
- About 3 years ago we looked at how Minecraft performed with the stated recommended system requirements and found that it was very playable.
Today it's the turn of Minecraft RTX, which as you can imagine is a lot more demanding thanks to ray tracing. But how well will it run with what are some pretty mismatched PC specs?

Its truly a shame that Minecraft RTX has been pretty much abandoned by Mojang at this point.
What more should they do?
@@afos88 the problem is that you cannot use it in normal survival without mods and graphical glitches
@@semick4729 That's just one problem. There's also the terrible optimization of AMD GPUs, as seen from this video. My RX 6900 XT gets 30FPS at 1440p with the 8 chunk render distance setting. Then there's the visual artifacts. Look at the clouds in this video. They look terrible from certain angles.
@@PkmnGymLeader that's because 1. there's no upscale option for amd cards in this game and 2. it's probably just a rtx demo test made by nvidia for advertising their new rtx lineup back in 2018
@@retrofizz727 Which are both stupid. Please don’t tell me you’re defending it.
Good lord, i5-2400 + RTX 2060, I hope this combo exists nowhere else but in this video.
You talking about bottleneck?
It won't
As long as the GPU is peaked at 99% most of the time, there's no CPU bottleneck.
@@ClayWheeler If you play nothing but Minecraft with RTX on sure, good luck getting 99% GPU utilization in any other game.
@@KimBoKastekniv47 nope.
GTA V can still get RTX 2060 to 99% utilization while the CPU around 60 to 70%
How do I know this?
I own internet cafe with such CPU and GPU combo.
@@ClayWheeler Every "i5-2400 GTA V" video on UA-cam shows this isn't true, and even a 1050 Ti can't reach full utilization.
@@KimBoKastekniv47 that's because "every video" of Core i5 2400 are recorded locally so it adds stress to the CPU.
If you just play the game without even recording, or use Capture card and secondary PC to store the recording, the Core i5 2400 still doing just fine with RTX 2060.
Thats some professional cut and paste on that thumbnail.....had me giggling for ages until I calmed down enough to actually watch your video lol. Not a player of Minecraft myself but Ive seen it in all its RTX glory and its a bit impressive.
😂 thanks for watching :)
Isn't the RTX 2050 the least powerful RTX card now. They released it last year for laptops I think, it's just a mobile 1650 with RTX cores.
Ah yeah that’s a point. I don’t have a 2050 laptop to hand though :)
It's actually a cut down RTX 3050 according to techpowerup database. There are some quadro rtx variants that would technically probably be slower than the 2060 too like the Quadro A500 eGPU which seems related but higher clocked to the RTX 2050 laptop thing.
On the desktop side, the RTX 3050 is technically the slowest RTX card I'm pretty sure.
@@pengu6335 Looked at a bench just now and seems it can vary between 2060 and 3050 depending on game and workload - the "pro" RTX A2000 is even slower in most cases though as it was cut down to be able to be powered from the pcie slot only if you count those (and it's a proper pcie card unlike the A500 which is a egpu thing).
@olnnn We're gonna assume gaming cards. Best case scenario for the 3050, it might perform better than the 2060 when it comes to ray tracing. However, 2060 definitely wins in raw performance.
I came simply to comment on how amazing the thumbnail is, and I opened the comments and was surprised to see the fanfare, we love it lol
😂 thanks
Thing with Minecraft RTX is that while it can run buttery smooth in maps that are pre-made, it can give a system a run and put the CPU to work whenever you play a new world, as the CPU has to do a lotta work rendering new chunks if you're exploring the world constantly. That may be way increasing the render distance didn't do much initially.
From my experience playing survival minecraft with RTX, it has its hard dips in frames when it's rendering new chunks. I use a 3060 12GB and a 5800x as well.
I would be interested in seeing how modern minecraft runs on the orginal minium and recommended specs.
which edition?
As far as I know there were no minimum specs in 2010 and 2009 hence why there were so many people asking on forums if their intel atom could run minecraft. Which it could but barely. Can an intel atom run a modern version of minecraft? Apparently it can't even start according to some videos.
It will probably be way more difficult now that there are so many more entities introduced. - There's also the matter of the settings, because stuff like rendering/loading-distance makes a significant distance. - I know you'd want to see it for yourself, but it's probably fairly predictable, if there were minimum recommended specs, using them on the latest version, that it would just be yet again a step worse in terms of performance. - I find Minecraft to be rather poorly optimized anyway, which is probably just the nature of the engine and all that. But even though I have a pretty fast PC, I still find myself reaching for OptiFine, which is basically the optimization. - I don't understand why Mojang didn't just hire whoever is behind that by now, or buy the code or something. I doubt people at Mojang are too arrogant to admit someone made an improvement to the game... But anyway, that's a whole tangent. XD
@@michaelmonstar4276 They did optimize the whole thing by releasing a windows version, namely bedrock edition. But I think leaving the Java edition as is was the right move, especially for the modding community.
ever since the caves and cliffs update the game runs much worse

DLSS or other advanced upscaling techniques seem like a really good idea in Minecraft. The simplicity of the title and the lack of many advanced graphical features are really helpful in preventing any undesirable side effects (smoke, power lines, fast movements, and fire effects spring to mind as areas where more aggressive upscaling can result in ghosting, aliasing, or other hampering to the overall image quality).
Minecraft RTX already uses DLSS. On Java tho, the only similar thing is the shader series SEUS PTGI HRR which unlike PTGI E12 which is raw path tracing (with a few tricks), use their own upscaling algorithm
I love the thumbnail, you're delightful.
Really appreciated this video! A friend of mine has an older PC with a 4790K and a 780 but wanted it to play Minecraft with max raytracing settings at 1080p and asked me what to buy to make that happen and it seems like a 2060 Super would get her there and then some and they're fairly cheap these days. Appreciate it!
That thumbnail looks hilarious and accurate 😂
For a while I used me i5 2400 with a GTX 1070 and/or a GTX 1660 super (in a secondary PC). It was quite funny to see that CPU bottleneck when I tested a game.
Nice video as always, very good idea!
That thumbnail made my day lmao
Good to hear 😂
Loving the thumbnail!
I always find it annoying when suggested specs just say I5 or similar and no generation because it doesn't tell you the actual performance level and I am glad to see you noticed that too and went all the way down to 2000 gen.
How did you get RSR to work? I have a 6600 and it just doesn't work for me because I cannot change the resolution in game
Great, you're an amazing person!!
This video is amazing
Love the thumbnail lol 😂❤
Top tier thumbnail ❤
Is this some kind of save? If so, somebody had have to find a nice locaation, probably see neighberhood, maybe chunks are already saved in save (rendered), so cranking up a render distance is not so bad
can i run minecraft rtx with nividia gtx 970? my cpu is amd fx 8150 2011.
I'm actually impressed when thinking that it's a RX 6500 XT @ PCIe 2.0 x4.
Yeah it doesn’t make much difference with this game surprisingly
I've been trying software-based(?) ray-tracing options for Minecraft using a 6950XT, a Ryzen 5600, and pretty high settings (render-distances kind of in the middle of what's available), but it's still rather questionable. - I mean, yea, it does hang around 60fps (at 1080p 21:9, by the way), which is a minimum I'm willing to except these days, but it can also drop and stutter quite a bit. - I'm not sure what that depends on, if it's just the engine being unoptimized or if the CPU is not enough. It did seem it was GPU-bound, if I remember correctly, but it doesn't seem quite right. - Either that or third-party ray-tracing is just too demanding or questionable. - In any case, I'm not sure how to use the official ray-tracing with AMD, maybe it doesn't show up because I'm on Linux or something, but I'm curious to see if it works. - I guess it would be worse considering it would be hardware-based, which Radeon-cards are just worse at, but yea...
how did you recorded the screen without affecting the performance of the game?
That thumbnail is top tier man
RTX 2060 still holds up pretty well to be honest especially for PCs with older PCiE slots. If I aim to play just Minecraft, indie & older AAA titles & emulations only without breaking the bank, perhaps pairing this card with Ryzen 5 3600 or i5 10400 F would do.
pcie is backwards compatible
@@markokojicicTrue, but I think he means PCIe bandwidth. An RTX 2060 has the full 16x lanes, so even in a 2.0 system like this, you still have 8 GB/s of transfer. A 6500XT in a 2.0 system has 2 GB/s because of the 4 lanes. A video on this channel shows exactly how that trashes performance.
Is anyone know why the upscalling option not showing up on my settings ? (rtx 40 sries) thanks
This thumbnail takes me back at least 8 to 10 years back 🤣😂
The thumbnail is truly hilarious with RT on...
Have they released the Xbox version or is it abandoned?
glad to see that the 1155 CPU is not the bottleneck :)
U should test the path tracing shaders that Java edition has (seus HRR 3) and also a shader pack that uses voxels for lighting and shadows i think (super hard to run)
On Java u can change shader settings in the shader tab when u go into that specific shaders settings
You forgot to mention any of the mods needed to run it - either optifine or sodium + iris (last one runs better)
Also I personally find seus ptgi hrr test 3 quite lacking as reflections look prettt garbage without much of a performance bump (on my setup)
Well i managed to run seus for 1.16 on a radeon hd 5870 ghz ed. And it ran at around 70 frames...
It also had a 3rd gen i7 7770k if im not wrong on the numbers
@@hackbustersminecraft optifine runs better with integrated graphics, sodium utilizes the gpu way more which is why for most with a dedicated gpu it runs far better
@@hackbustersminecraft SEUS PTGI is so overrated. It's been years since an actual update, making it problematic with newer Minecraft versions. It also runs terribly and looks pretty bad at times, like you mentioned about the reflections.
That thumbnail, the stuff of nightmare-and not just for quality!
weird how you get such high performance for minecraft rtx. I have a higher spec machine yet you get almost double?
You should do Minimum specs for the Good version of minecraft "rtx" on Java using various path-traced shaders on different gpus using Quilt + sodium + iris.
I BEG you; make a video like this...
just optifine is fine, i feel like downloading sodium and all its mod is too much a hassle with how much update minecraft gets sometimes lol
@@RobVanHars2001 Yeah, but if he decides to use the 2400 again, the cpu bottleneck that hes gunna get from optifine on top of the game's already bad optimization will definitely not be a sight to behold.
It's weird to think that Richard from Digital Foundry saw that thumbnail (He said in the last DF Weekly that he watches your channel a lot and he gets the notifications)
What issues you faced in intel arc a750 are there any crashes black screen issues and what about idle power consumption and what about game freeze
The a750 is still temperamental. It rarely crashes in games for me anymore but not the best card to go for if you want guaranteed stability
you should try benchmarking the average parts in steam's pc survey
the thumbnail makes me wonder if he will do a 30 secs section mimicking the square head guy
Steve's head on Steve's body. Brilliant thumbnail.
how is your hand not affected by the rtx bug
can you try Java version "RTX" by community mods too ?
that thumbnail got me wheezing 😂
I tried Minecraft RTX on a 3060 with a Ryzen 5 2600 and only got 35-40FPS at 1080P. Did they update something major since I did this or did I miss something in the settings?
Dlss?
I wonder how would rtx 2050 vs 3050 vs 4050 compare in this title with RT on (60 series comparison also would be pretty interesting to see)
there's not really a 2050, it's only in laptops
@@retrofizz727 still worth a try, they still have some of tensor cores
@@Dregomz02 yeah but that’s not a fair comparison to a desktop 3050
Wtf, either my minecraft or my gpu is f ucked up, bc I can barely reach 20 FPS with rtx on, and upscaling (which I just found out is dlss in minecraft) doesn't work at all
For being as vague as this was, I'm quite surprised with the performance from both cards.
dlss is amazing feature. nvidia really has great engineers.
I think the problem with the 6500XT was that you were using a PCIe 2.0 system! I think one of the more recent video (5500 vs 6500?) showed that the 6500/6500XT loses out when dropping to PCIe 3.0, but when you're dropping to PCIe 2.0 systems? Yeah, not going to work.
I reckon that something like an older RX card (such as an RX 4xx or 5xx) would give the newer 6500XT/6500/6400 a good run for their money especially in PCIe 2.0/3.0 systems.
what about rx 6650 xt or rx 6600xt?
I love that thumbnail 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I have a similar system at home for my kids, E3-1245, 16GB DDR3 and a 2060s.
My used 2060s cost about the same as a new 6500xt and about £40 more than a used 6500xt, easy decision to make.
I love that thumbnail
Is rtx2050 enough to run minecraft on decent graphics?

I'd be interested to see first gen I5
me with a rx6600 and i5 10400f single channel 16gb ddr4 not being able to run ray tracing because of no dlss and shit amd ray tracing preformance
I have a rx6600, and it runs really well if you replace the DLSS dll with a FSR dll. Now I'm able to use FSR 2.0 and play at 60fps.
Bruh my 6900xt is barely getting 10 fps
@@vornamenachname_ Well, it's not stable 60fps, it drops a lot on some parts of maps with too much light effects. I'm playing at the minimum ray tracing settings and 1080p too.
I tried it with my 6900xt… and got 10 fps at 1080p. Guess my gpu is faulty if a 6500xt does better.

The older gens I5 are surprisingly competent. I am running a 3rd gen, not a big improvement over the 2nd gen, and it runs current games decently enough, no big problems. It s a 10 years old cpu. Thank God technology does not advance that fast anymore.
*U can use FSR 2.2 Mod to replace DLSS with AMD Gpus, i play above 100 FPS average with my RX 6700 XT and FSR 2.2 Enabled and looks amazing (I have the proof on my last video)*

That thumbnail bruh 💀
you can make it run on a 1660 by running the game on 1.15.0 rtx beta and renaming the card rtx 2080
Updating DLSS manually actually improves FPS, IDK why Mojang does not update the DLSS version when the latest version of DLSS works fine on the current version of Minecraft, I had to patch DLSS every time there's an update to the game
Be really cool if ray tracing was on them new fancy consoles, but nooooo, no giant ray traced lava fountain as a landmark for us
Please try this with Better RTX for bedrock
Minecraft rtx through the windows version is rough with Radeon cards. I feel like 6000 series shouldn't be listed as the minimum maybe 7000. 30-40fps 1440p is rough and that's lowest rtx settings on my 6800xt.
Things i hate about intel spec system is that they only list it as i[x value] like i what whats the next number. I5 1111111111 or i5 999999999
Good.
Hey just wanted to let you know most people who play with "rtx on" dont play the bedrock edition they play the java edition with shaders like complementary shaders or something else and theres a bunch more things you can configure there would be interesting seeing something like thay
can you name any java rtx shaders off the top of your head? I've been looking for one for fun.
@@proCaylakthere is none as java doesnt support hardware raytracing. There are software based tracing shaders like SEUS_PTGI_HRR tho. It looks really nice but needs a texture pack with consistent resolution to work fine with every block.
If you have a gpu below 3070ti (1440p) or 3070 (for 1080p) i would recommend going with the non-traced SEUS shader though.
I see, I'll check seus out. thank you 😊
EDIT: I have tried both SEUS PTGI and SEUS Renewed. PTGI is more or less pure path tracing without much optmization. Renewed is better for actually playing the game, it is made to look prettier and be less costly compared to PTGI.
I still want for that day which someone creates shader mod for vulkan mod by xCollateral, because vulkan supports hardware RT and minecraft java would beat bedrock in RT\PT rendering
When i bought my pc i made sure that it could run ray tracing in MC
I gave my sister my old setup. Fx4350 and 16g of ddr3. didn't have a gpu to give her. so she found her own and its an rtx 3060 12g. specifically because she hopes to play minecraft with rtx
👍🏻
Oh lord. I'll take it that since the 6500 XT is far weaker than the RTX 2060 (I believe), it running at PCIe 2.0 instead of 3.0 or 4.0 kinda destroyed it. Same goes for the 2060, but it wasn't as bad since it's a better card naturally
it makes me mad when i see just "i5" on system requirements or people asking for help in forums, i5 what?!
I'm playing on am i5 9600F and a 2060 lmao my pc does be heating the room cos I always max out the graphics on games as much as it can handle
As an i5 2400 owner, I was surprised that the game even went above 10fps even with a 2060
I was surprised too, considering ray tracing in intensive on both the CPU and the GPU sides.
