the river represents the importance of nizamuddin aulia to khusrau, whose knowledge sustains khusrau's intellect. he wants to take a little bit from the river but knows the process to obtain the knowledge is fraught with danger. upon arriving at the river, the knowledge, khusrau realises you cannot take from the river but can only revel in your helplessness in front of its force. khusrau realises that this knowledge is forever moving and not for anyone to take away and that true love is in acknowledging the beloved, not in wanting anything in return. this at least is my interpretation

When Jigar wrote it, probably he did not know one day Sufi Qawwals will be singing it. I wonder how many people condemn drinking without trying it {it has to be done carefully, first drink can make people sick. Drinking is an acquired taste. Jigar (the poet) was a drinker, and he KNEW}. I know most readers will condemn me. But I am doing exactly what Jigar meant. Come & join me, drinks are on me, No limits.

Many Urdu poets identify themselves with the city of their origin. Saying from Muradabad of course, I am from there too is an arrogant response. Belittling someone for asking a question is not our culture is all about.
This qawali is misunderstood by some people.. It is sufiyana poetry by Gigar Muradabadi . It is Oalandri type kalam. Here sharab is not virtual wine. It is fully mingling with God and fogetting all the wordly affairs like Shabaz Qlander, Dada Hayat , Rabiya Basri and Bu Ali sena ( R A) etc. Drinking sharab is strictly prohibited by Allah Rabbul izzat through the Holy Quran Karim. Sabri Brothers would never sing about Majazi sharab because they were Hajis and were knowing what is Haqiqi and Majazi sharab. Please don't misunderstand this sufiyana kalam. Mehboob bi khan.
