I made my first one from PVC when I was 16. Almost 20 years ago. What I learned was that you want to us as thin a wall pipe as possible without compromising strength. Alternatively, sharpen the botton leading edge of the pipe so it cuts through sand easier. It is REALLY hard to use without a handle. It stretches the skin between your thumb and pointer finger and is hard on the wrist. Trust me. Many years of experience.... Great video. Thx.

when i made one i used 2 test plugs and just kept the small plugs from both of them and used it as one instead of grinding down. and it was a perfect fit

Use a small stainless cotter pin instead of the screw in the rod end cap & a stainless eye screw and washer for the hex bolt. Rebuild test plug with eye screw instead of the hex bolt (leave wing nut very loose so you can rotate the eye screw by hand). Drill a hole through both sides of the cap and rod. Glue end cap on, thread the cotter pin through one one side of the cap, through the eye of the screw (turning eye bolt as required) and out the other side and bend ends. Can not tighten wing nut.

Thanks for the video instructions. Where is the beach that you can drive on shown at the end of the video?

Sounds like your test plug bolt is turning. Try putting a longer screw in at the bottom of the plunger, so that it contacts the flat on the head of the stainless bolt. This should prevent it from turning.

That would be what we still call "Little Shell" and "Big Shell" outside of Corpus Christie Texas in the US. In the 70's the Feds took it over and i must say, have done a fine job with it. It is now officially called "Padre island National Seashore". One of the few US beaches left in the country that allow driving...while crazy people will frequent the place and get out of control, the law says that all highway driving laws apply...seat belts, speed limit, etc...

Hey dude, you got a problem. Tightening the wing nut only turns the entire plug AND bolt, not allowing the rubber donut to compress. Need to use a fully threaded bolt without a shank and put a "jam nut" on the plug side of the half inch cap. This will keep the bolt locked in place when you tighten the wing but. Unless you have a better idea?

When i try to tight the the Wing nut it feels like its not tighten at all, Just keeps spinning. I used the washer instead of grinding down the Plug. Is there a solution for this? Maybe getting another ruuber bushing or change out the washer?

OK I see what you're thinking...but those shopping lists at the end of video are for buying bulk (long lengths of PVC) and making 4 and even 5 pumps! Good luck compadre.
