Basically what happened:
When I read the last part when Emma tries to convince Julian that she doesn't love him, I immediately thought: "IT'S THE HERONDALE SITUATION ALL OVER AGAIN."

i love when Emma did a Will Herondale and decided that the only way to keep him safe was to make him hate her. I'm so excited seeing another Kit (it's a requirement to at least have one Herondale in a shadowhunter book/novella). i hope there are more duck jokes.

I just finished the book not even five minutes ago AND I JUST CAN'T DO IT, MAN. Throughout those last few pages I was in hysterics THINKING OUT LOUD "NONONONONONO." AND THAT LAST LINE. OH, THAT LAST LINE. "Why lie?" Excuse me while I choke/scream/laugh/cry. MARK, NO. JUST NO. PUT IT AWAY. Cassandra Clare, you will be the death of me.
CRACKPOT THEORY: So like remember when (spoiler ahead) Emma got whipped and she started dreaming of her parents?? Well, her mom said, and I quote her directly "'Steel and temper, daughter,' she said. 'And remember that a blade made by Wayland the Smith can cut anything.'" ..............Could Cortana POSSIBLY be able to CUT through Julian and Emma's Parabatai bond?????????? OMG IDK...
