    I really like this perspective. It reframes “competitors” into “collaborators.” Like, I want to better understand what other UA-cam coaches have to offer so that if I come across someone who has needs that are better suited by another coach, I would gladly refer to them. It empowers me to own my approach and what I take pride in when it comes to my business of UA-cam coaching.

    I very, very firmly disagree that authenticity is not valuable or even vital in your professional life. His definition of authenticity - being too upset to do your job on a bad day - is NOT the full definition of authenticity. Authenticity is only valuable if you have the basic skills to withstand the emotional weather of life and stay true to your morals, ideals and capabilities. I really do not like authenticity getting painted as weakness.

      It shows he doesn't understand what the word means, since he conflates it with a completely different/unrelated concept (having an emotional experience, yet remaining professional - which has noting to do with authenticity). And I was so enjoying the discussion before he tanked it with his last remarks.

      Authenticity has different levels, and yeah, his blanket statements aren't helpful when you consider what authenticity means.
      Now, if you flip it, and understand what he means, you can see that what he said is helpful for some people... there are people who take authenticity into overdrive, and what he described isn't really for the general, but for specifically those kinds of people.
      This is the issue with these "gurus" making off-the-cuff remarks... they usually over-simplify and greatly muddy the waters.
      Not to mention it made all of us click the video.

    Wow, this video really hits the nail on the head when it comes to the challenges businesses face in today's noisy market. Seth Godin's perspective on differentiation being selfish is truly eye-opening and his alternative approach to market positioning is refreshing. I appreciate how he emphasizes the importance of being generous and adding value to our customers' lives rather than simply trying to stand out from the crowd. This is a must-watch for anyone looking to improve their marketing strategy without feeling like they're constantly competing against others. Thank you for sharing!

    lol i still heard differentiation. i still heard positioning. just seems like a long winded but helpful way to find it. sounds similar to the onlyness statement framework. Authenticity too, is also very crucial for solving the same problem is different ways (creatively). which is great for progress.

    I love this .... but also I feel like to be a good teacher, you have to be able to do all of those things (competition prep vs. emotional outlet) to be rigorous and strict when it is required from the student, or to be emotional and sympathetic when required by the student.

    In fact he is describing authenticity which is simply giving your customers what they want, not what you want to give them.

    Being authentic is the opposite of being consistent? Didn’t get it...

  • @odararumbol8781
    @odararumbol8781 3 роки тому +8

    But why can't you be authentic in your choice to be the strict or calm piano teacher and stick to that? It seems to me if you are calm more artistic person, you trying to fit into the strict piano teacher role is just going to be exhausting and unenjoyable for you. Even if you are serving the "customer".

      You hit the nail on the head. People (students in this case) may also eventually pick up on this.

  • @gc7304

    I don't think one can dictate oneself by saying " be consistent" or "be professional". Also that's not the opposite of authenticy. Authenticy is also not finding a "world saving" purpose to work.
    Something missing in Seth's explanation

    differentiation still works dude... your axis stuff and differentiation is unrelated, how you share your prospects and leads to others is showing an attribute of specialist. You still using differentiation, don't talk c...
