  • After being brutally murdered, Susie ends up in the In-Between,
a place that's not more earth, but that's not still heaven.
Susie's In-Between world is a magical, constantly shifting place.
A dreamscape with idyllic and darkness moments, reflecting her emotions.
    It's filled with stunning imagery,
from ocher-hued cornfields to snow-capped mountains,
and enormous ships in bottles (a reference to a hobby shared with her father when she was alive).
    As director Peter Jackson said:
"We just tried very hard to make it very
shifting landscape that was almost emotionally based,
so whatever Susie's emotions were at that particular
time were dictating the look of the in-between and how it was changing and shifting."
    MUSIC: Cocteau Twins "Alice"
The Lovely Bones is a 2009 supernatural drama film directed by Peter Jackson and stars Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Michael Imperioli, and Saoirse Ronan.
A film adaptation of the award-winning and best-selling 2002 novel of the same name by Alice Sebold, the film received numerous accolades, including a Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, BAFTA and Academy Award nominations.
The Lovely Bones was first released on December 26, 2009 in New Zealand, and then internationally in January 2010.

Okay so the movie makes it look like oh she's in the in-between and she's not suffering but the fact is he took that little girl's innocence and her life and vile lighter in in the most horrible way and on top of that she doesn't get to experience human life he took that from her her body never gets found he stuck her and us some kind of small box and dumped her in the abyss of darkness parents and father never get to put their child's body to rest I mean that's horrible I want to kill him for this that is horrible and you know people do this and it is horrible evil sometimes doesn't get the Justice it should get

killing him wouldn't make you any different from him I really hate when people says things like that I mean really the guy in the movie is an awful person because he has killed a lot of people so if you kill him you wouldn't be any better than him and I agree with what you said about the fact that he took her life experience away and that he is awful but you can't contradict people when they say she's not suffering because she isn't suffering that's the point of the movie that she is dead but is in a better place and it's a raw and realistic story and it's shows that good doesn't win completely every time because that's how life is it's about the healing of the family after the death of their sister/daughter and it's about her accepting what happened to her even if it's hard because in the movie she doesn't accept her death and that's what hold her and her family from finally healing and moving on but in the end her and her family did and you can see that they are finally healing the movie is a beautiful lesson on accepting what happened because you can't change the past

@@Number1Chewiedog1fan Thats bullshit. The family has the right to do with the killer of their daughter what they will. When people say " oh but then you are on their level" thats just ignorant. Its about justice, and bringing peace to the dead and the living. Stop giving power away to the police and the government, unless you are for all these murderers, serial killers, and fascist cops and feds doing whatever they want.

@@screwthenet if you're not ok with the justice system then you should say it to the government because killing people or beating them because they killed someone would just bring chaos I mean obviously imagine a world where everyone kill one another because they did something bad you're no one to decide if someone deserve to live or not and I never said that I was ok with what criminals do or how the justice system work because I know that in some case going to court is useless but the movie isn't about that it's about the family accepting what happened and imagine if you kill someone because they killed your daughter do you really think it's gonna bring her back? Or make you any happier? No it's not.

No matter how many times I see this, I’m always struck on how much the in between is made up of bits and pieces from each of Harvey’s victims. He took their lives. Yet, there is a comforting place in heaven that each can rest either alone or together. He took their lives. But not their souls.

My Big Sister passed in 04. I was so young but I hurt cause she left me. When I got pregnant in 2010, this movie hit so hard. I imagined her like Suzy...in her own heaven. And I wasn't angry at her. Just hoping she got to be Beyonce. That would be her heaven cause we used to perform songs all the time together. My family doesn't get me. They say I'm weird and make me an outcast but my Big Dister, with cancer never did. She always loved me and accepted me. We used to sing The Boy Is Mine and she'd be Monica and let me be Brandy. I imagine her heaven is us singing together....

This movie is so beautiful, and it is definitely my favorite movie of all time. Saoirse Ronan delivers every role she has so powerfully, she is the reason I am working towards becoming an actor. After this movie I cried, I cried so much that my chest started hurting, and part of the reason I cried was because the movie was so beautifully made and the other reason was because it disgusted me that there are people that do this, that have an unquenchable thirst to kill and do horrible, vile things to innocent people. I also hope that when we die it really is like this, I hope that , for those who don't understand, that we can see why it had to come to this and that we can eventually come to peace with our own death. (I actually started crying writing this, I get so emotional over this movie)

I feel bad that in the book, Susie thought that her brother was making it up that he felt her presence still with the family even though she herself couldn't interact with him as a spirit still lingering in the world of the living without directly haunting everyone (except for Mr. Harvey of course). I just don't think it was right for her to think that, because even if her brother never really saw Susie, it doesn't mean he didn't have an awareness about her spiritual journey. Some kids just know about this kind of stuff without any logical explanation.

I sometimes become lucid while I'm dreaming and I start crafting landscapes and worlds while I'm in conscious control of the dream. But I always forget to recreate that particilar scenery within the dream. Simply doesn't cross my mind while I'm in the moment.

The in between is scary and lonely. Not a beautiful place in my opinion. Its empty with an illusion of paradise and fragments of her past. Is it just me who think so?

    • @ArtemyMalchuk
      @ArtemyMalchuk Рік тому +4

Lonely indeed, and to think of it, one probably has to die a particularly horrible death (like Susie and others) to end up there. To me, too, it seems that it's Harvey's presence which prevents his victims from ascending to actual Heaven (lampshaded by the giant rose in the ice). As soon as Susie's body was free from him, so was her soul.

I remember I loved the movie when I first seen it in theaters. But after watching it again I felt kinda creeped out. I think Peter Jackson was not a best choice as a director. He makes the death and afterlife scenes too whimsical. He created my favorite movie The Frighteners, but this movie was kind of a misstep for him. But I did find the book bc of the movie and I also had no idea that Elisabeth Fraser was on the soundtrack, one of my fav singer ever. I can't believe I didn't notice her voice...
