I understand there is still an impact and issue with the overuse of plastic but there’s definitely less direct impact from plastic in the environment. I’m talking about animals dying because they ingest/get caught in rubbish or the accumulated poison in biological systems due to smaller species consuming plastic and such... But yes. It is still bad.

India, China, other asian countries, countries in South America and certain islamic nation's. They dump their garbage directly into the water, mainly the river's but also the sea. There are literal garbage island's in city size in the middle of the sea where everything is floating around. Even if the western world would stop plastic completely tomorrow it would do nothing, especially Europe where everything get's recycled already since decades. In countrie's like Germany for example nearly all plastic get's already recovered. The funny thing is that here in the west this propaganda the strongest whereas the "mainvillian's" couldn't care less and just go on and in fact you can't do anything about it. All you are achieving is putting yourself at a disadvantage.
I'm not really surprised when foreigners know more about some aspects of a culture they don't live in. I see something similar with people who move to a new town versus people who lived there their whole life, the new people often know about more about the town and its venues (history, culture, theatres, attractions, museums, etc) than people who always lived there. I think this is because when you're immersed in something, whether its a town, culture or society, a lot of it just gets taken for granted, unless you have some interest in subjects that include those areas, there's no reason to know it.

I've noticed a flux of Japanese people traveling to Oregon actually like that girl in the video! I'm from the capital city Salem. There is the international japanese university in downtown😊 You can tell the university trys to make them feel like at home by planting lots of bamboo trees around the place, and the dorms look sort of like the one apartments in Japan. So true though us Oregonians are hard workers but we take our time. lol traffic is way slower than like in Cali or new yorks bussling cities ! It drives me nuts sometimes. Wish we were more efficient like that of Japan. I'm trying to learn Japanese to impress the people from abroad
I think it's the same difference of rural areas moving slower, in every country in the world. Even as a state, Oregon is less populated, and I think that gives it a more relaxed attitude than big city areas where everyone moves so much faster and punctuality is a much higher priority.
Oregon is nice, getting expensive though. I left the NW because of the price :(. Portland traffic is nuts like LA, but people at least use their signal.
You never use to see plastic bags when i was a child (1970`s) everyone use to have their own shopping baskets, trolleys etc. Most produce was put in paper bags.
what shocked me the first time i went to japan was how clean it was without any rubbish bins compared to new zealand, even with our clean and green image. second time, i wasnt too shocked with anything. hoping to go for a third time for a lot longer like perhaps a teacher and do the same things my teachers did when i was learning japanese by being encouraging and knowing that mistakes can happen. that said, hopefully find something to do with tech

Mannaggia, in Italy your late after an hour has passed. If someone says "we'll meet at 6pm you should be there at 6:30-7:00 pm and you'll still be waiting for the others to arrive (not everywhere and in any situation, but 8/10 it will be ok if you arrive with half an hour of delay)
Most Japanese that go the US just end up visiting LA and Las Vegas. They don’t really understand what the US is as a whole which is just not big cities and deserts. After la head north and it’s rain country and grassland, East is farm country until Chicago, just East is the Great Lakes with Lake Superior being like a mini ocean, south you’ll find desert and farms, head to the Rockies or the other mountains, the southern us is a lot of swamps and red clay depending on which state you are in, and head north you’ll find fall leaf lookers, Boston the cradle of the American revolution, New York City, and just time to enjoy. It’s just what you see can change on where you are and your own understanding of it.
It's a huge country with a lot of variety, but because it's so big, it's a lot to ask tourists to try to see so much of it. A trip like that would take months, it would be quite expensive (since we have very little mass transit in most of the country) and other than the landscape, there's often not too much to see. Lots of empty, wide open spaces. Similarly, we have many different cultures across the country, where almost every state has unique behavior standards, taboos and etiquette, so depending on which country they come from, different tourists will probably have different states they think are more polite or more rude.
Granted, I'm sure there's people that visit, say, NYC, and think the whole of the US is just skyscrapers and annoyed-looking people, but give people some credit: Most people would be aware that they're visiting only a small selection of the whole.
I remember a Japanese man who is also a UA-camr. He speaks German without any mistakes or accent. I was very surprised about it because it is always said German is one of the most difficult languages. I really appreciated it. He also lives in Germany.
The story about the singer on the train reminds me: the host of an old (fourteen or fifteen years ago) late night street interview show on America TV used to complain that people would just walk up and start spontaneously performing for him whenever he was out in a city with his camera crew. We have train barriers in the city trains, and they are gradually replacing train stations in outer metro areas, but it means shutting down areas, Most ppl know not to step over the yellow "lego like strip which means you are too close to the border" what trains did you buy tickets on the trains? You can only buy them online or at a station, perhaps unless you were in the outback?
In new york, people who ask sing or ask for money on the train can be persistent. There was once a man who yelled loudly asking for any spare change, when no one offered any, he yelled at us for not giving anything. There are also music bands that will travel from cart to cart playing music and asking for money. Some musicians even carry a cello with them.
I live in Melbourne. There aren't any machines in the trains, you get Myki cards from a post office or next to the entrance of most stations. There are machines outside entrances which allow you to top them up with money. I'm not too sure what trains are like in other states, but I'm guessing the person who went to Australia went to somewhere else besides Victoria

It's hard to explain and even though I spent the last 10 minutes looking for a dictionary definition, I couldn't find one. I think the closest I can come up with is "plump"/"soft" sort of like jello. As an Italian I want to facepalm so hard, it's so true... living in Italy is hell for those who want to arrive in time for work/school etc. To not be one hour late for school I had to leave two hours before the start of classes... and I lived in a town at 25/30 minutes by car. However infratructures in some city is so bad that it's hard to get by.

@@bostontracy5151 Hahah I've heard those exact words hundreds of times in my life and it always happened at bus stations. It's exactly like that. I live in Tuscany, so at the center of Italy. Apparently in the northern part of the country things are bit better, but as you go south from Florence, I've heard stories of "rare specimen" busses who pass once or twice per day in Rome lol. Oh and forget about getting home (by train or bus or even car since everything gets blocked) if it decides to snow in winter. I lived in Germany for a period and it was paradise, a lot like you're describing Japan, I loved using public transportation there. Also because of the level of cleanliness. Luckily I'm moving to Japan next year so I won't have to think about these problems for a long time!

They don't realize most people in England speak two or more languages, and due to liking anime many English people know some Japanese. I'm a rural American and I've only been late for one appointment in my life--and I remember it and why. I've traveled most of the US and 5 continents of the world and I have to say successful Americans on average are very punctual compared to what is required in most foreign cultures. However, there are segments of the American population who tend to be late as a lifestyle. In elementary school we had rules like you get a tardy if you're 1 second late sitting in your chair and three tardies in a year and you start receiving punishment. In high school there were compounding penalties for each tardy. In college the penalty for lateness varied by professor, with very roughly 25% of professors marking you tardy and not caring, 25% marking you tardy with some sort of possible grade penalty or automatic fail threshold, 25% marking you absent which may or may not have a penalty, and 25% chewing you out for interrupting class and sending you away. If you're late in the American workplace it totally depends on the culture of the company you work at and your status there. Most businesses do not promote low to mid-level employees with a tendency to be late. On the other hand, Government employees tend to have the option to be late arriving (and leave work early) with regard to all appointments and meetings and almost never suffer a consequence.
It’s actually quite standard for taxis to keep a finger on the horn in China as traffic is a nightmare as the traffic lights don’t mean anything and pedestrians don’t care about the rules. Actually it’s about the same in Chicago and New York City as traffic is a giant mess and you’ll hear taxis honking all day and night. It’s really not that bad as you sorta get used to the noise and you kinda start to understand the language of honking from f*** you to hot date to meh.
It was correct! Three word sentences can be translated pretty easily without errors. It was even easy to read, because there are no kanji characters in it! If anyone hasn't learned katakana and hiragana, I recommend it, as they have only 46 characters each and they're easy to pronounce for Westerners (except maybe the R/L sound).
I think it depends on the city/district; each of them has their local laws. For instance in Bunkyo, a district of Tokyo, we are not allowed to take our clothes on the railing for drying
The lady who said that Chinese sound their horn a lot in traffic. I experienced the same in Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and Bolivia as well. For no reason at all people sound the horn. Or at least i do not see anything that would trigger me to do the same.
I am from the UK, my fathers wife (my stepmother) is from Serbia. My father visited Serbia to meet her family and friends. He went to get a haircut whilst he was there, he didn't speak to the barber (as he didn't speak Serbian) so his wife asked for the length he wanted. The barber refused to charge him... why? Because he had asked for the same cut as a gangster, they thought he was a gangster and that's why they didn't talk to him. Within the same trip he went to a football (soccer) match, the big rivalry, Red Star v Partizan Belgrade. My father grew up around English football hooligans in the 70's, he saw football violence on a regular basis in his youth, but nothing shocked him so much as the regimented battles between Red Star and Partizan as the two sets of fans were left to hospitalise eachother. The most shocking thing he experienced however was when he visited a relative of his wife, they told him a story of how their neighbour shot someone who entered the village. Why did they shoot them? Because they were Albanian, not because they had trespassed or committed a crime or anything, just because they were Albanian. That is what should shock people about foreigners, not whether or not they sing on an effing train.

Most Japanese that go the US just end up visiting LA and Las Vegas. They don’t really understand what the US is as a whole which is just not big cities and deserts. After la head north and it’s rain country and grassland, East is farm country until Chicago, just East is the Great Lakes with Lake Superior being like a mini ocean, south you’ll find desert and farms, head to the Rockies or the other mountains, the southern us is a lot of swamps and red clay depending on which state you are in, and head north you’ll find fall leaf lookers, Boston the cradle of the American revolution, New York City, and just time to enjoy. It’s just what you see can change on where you are and your own understanding of it.

It's a huge country with a lot of variety, but because it's so big, it's a lot to ask tourists to try to see so much of it. A trip like that would take months, it would be quite expensive (since we have very little mass transit in most of the country) and other than the landscape, there's often not too much to see. Lots of empty, wide open spaces. Similarly, we have many different cultures across the country, where almost every state has unique behavior standards, taboos and etiquette, so depending on which country they come from, different tourists will probably have different states they think are more polite or more rude.

Granted, I'm sure there's people that visit, say, NYC, and think the whole of the US is just skyscrapers and annoyed-looking people, but give people some credit: Most people would be aware that they're visiting only a small selection of the whole.

I remember a Japanese man who is also a UA-camr. He speaks German without any mistakes or accent. I was very surprised about it because it is always said German is one of the most difficult languages. I really appreciated it. He also lives in Germany.

We have train barriers in the city trains, and they are gradually replacing train stations in outer metro areas, but it means shutting down areas, Most ppl know not to step over the yellow "lego like strip which means you are too close to the border" what trains did you buy tickets on the trains? You can only buy them online or at a station, perhaps unless you were in the outback?

In new york, people who ask sing or ask for money on the train can be persistent. There was once a man who yelled loudly asking for any spare change, when no one offered any, he yelled at us for not giving anything. There are also music bands that will travel from cart to cart playing music and asking for money. Some musicians even carry a cello with them.
I live in Melbourne. There aren't any machines in the trains, you get Myki cards from a post office or next to the entrance of most stations. There are machines outside entrances which allow you to top them up with money. I'm not too sure what trains are like in other states, but I'm guessing the person who went to Australia went to somewhere else besides Victoria

2:51 I had that same reaction when I went to Germany for the first time back in April of 2019. I never saw bouncy potatoes before. It was like eating a cake somewhat. I still don't know what style of cooking method they used in Germany to make it but I really want to know.

But I haven't gotten that far in my Japanese studies, so I might be wrong. I think the general idea is that the potatoes were surprisingly soft

As an Italian I want to facepalm so hard, it's so true... living in Italy is hell for those who want to arrive in time for work/school etc. To not be one hour late for school I had to leave two hours before the start of classes... and I lived in a town at 25/30 minutes by car. However infratructures in some city is so bad that it's hard to get by.
Hananas From the horror stories I’ve heard, Japan is absolutely OCD about being EXACTLY on time, not early, not late, and down to the second! While Italy, is pretty infamous for “You’ll get there when you get there… sometime today.”
@@bostontracy5151 Hahah I've heard those exact words hundreds of times in my life and it always happened at bus stations. It's exactly like that. I live in Tuscany, so at the center of Italy. Apparently in the northern part of the country things are bit better, but as you go south from Florence, I've heard stories of "rare specimen" busses who pass once or twice per day in Rome lol. Oh and forget about getting home (by train or bus or even car since everything gets blocked) if it decides to snow in winter. I lived in Germany for a period and it was paradise, a lot like you're describing Japan, I loved using public transportation there. Also because of the level of cleanliness. Luckily I'm moving to Japan next year so I won't have to think about these problems for a long time!

@Khanate Archer Well It is not a bad or selfish effort, so I like it. Between languages, information can be lost or misunderstood easily; I mean, for me it's funnier when I can get the joke. Writing this is an example, as I´m not as good in english so I try to write it well.
If you don`t need a bag when in Japan, just say something like このままでいいです when putting your item on the counter etc, before they get to the bags.

My family has stopped to buy plastic bags every time. We try to get ours when going to a shop. Even if we buy one, we don't trow them out, but collect them. We have some eco bags as well. I think the main point is to trow away as little bags, as possible.
I'd like to know where to recycle plastic waste instead of trowing it out. (I'm from Ukraine)
We get a lot of Japanese exchange students in Brighton where I live. They don't realize most people in England speak two or more languages, and due to liking anime many English people know some Japanese. I wouldn't call myself fluent, but I know enough to have conversations, and some of them were talking shit about me, and I called them out on it in their language. They ran.
oh god yes!!! the knodel!! hahaha i remember when i went to germany for the first time, i was 10-11 yo, the one thing that stuck with me were the "elastic balls" as i would name them. i still have many images from that trip even after all these years but i remember the one thing that i found the strangest were knodel :P. not a specific place or monument, no behaviours (well i was pretty young for such observation), just the knodel!
aaaaand now im studying here, also learning some japanese to, at last, visit japan some time in the future.

I'm a rural American and I've only been late for one appointment in my life--and I remember it and why. I've traveled most of the US and 5 continents of the world and I have to say successful Americans on average are very punctual compared to what is required in most foreign cultures. However, there are segments of the American population who tend to be late as a lifestyle.
In elementary school we had rules like you get a tardy if you're 1 second late sitting in your chair and three tardies in a year and you start receiving punishment. In high school there were compounding penalties for each tardy. In college the penalty for lateness varied by professor, with very roughly 25% of professors marking you tardy and not caring, 25% marking you tardy with some sort of possible grade penalty or automatic fail threshold, 25% marking you absent which may or may not have a penalty, and 25% chewing you out for interrupting class and sending you away.
If you're late in the American workplace it totally depends on the culture of the company you work at and your status there. Most businesses do not promote low to mid-level employees with a tendency to be late. On the other hand, Government employees tend to have the option to be late arriving (and leave work early) with regard to all appointments and meetings and almost never suffer a consequence.

It’s actually quite standard for taxis to keep a finger on the horn in China as traffic is a nightmare as the traffic lights don’t mean anything and pedestrians don’t care about the rules. Actually it’s about the same in Chicago and New York City as traffic is a giant mess and you’ll hear taxis honking all day and night. It’s really not that bad as you sorta get used to the noise and you kinda start to understand the language of honking from f*** you to hot date to meh.
Foreigners who know a lot about Japan study the language and culture on-line before going there. That's why :)

It was correct! Three word sentences can be translated pretty easily without errors. It was even easy to read, because there are no kanji characters in it! If anyone hasn't learned katakana and hiragana, I recommend it, as they have only 46 characters each and they're easy to pronounce for Westerners (except maybe the R/L sound).

I think it depends on the city/district; each of them has their local laws. For instance in Bunkyo, a district of Tokyo, we are not allowed to take our clothes on the railing for drying

The lady who said that Chinese sound their horn a lot in traffic. I experienced the same in Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and Bolivia as well. For no reason at all people sound the horn. Or at least i do not see anything that would trigger me to do the same.

I am from the UK, my fathers wife (my stepmother) is from Serbia. My father visited Serbia to meet her family and friends. He went to get a haircut whilst he was there, he didn't speak to the barber (as he didn't speak Serbian) so his wife asked for the length he wanted. The barber refused to charge him... why? Because he had asked for the same cut as a gangster, they thought he was a gangster and that's why they didn't talk to him. Within the same trip he went to a football (soccer) match, the big rivalry, Red Star v Partizan Belgrade. My father grew up around English football hooligans in the 70's, he saw football violence on a regular basis in his youth, but nothing shocked him so much as the regimented battles between Red Star and Partizan as the two sets of fans were left to hospitalise eachother. The most shocking thing he experienced however was when he visited a relative of his wife, they told him a story of how their neighbour shot someone who entered the village. Why did they shoot them? Because they were Albanian, not because they had trespassed or committed a crime or anything, just because they were Albanian. That is what should shock people about foreigners, not whether or not they sing on an effing train.
