With all due respect Dan, I never go into as much rhetorical elegance in the actual letter as you're suggesting. I believe it's not necessary and it can come back to bite you if for let's say you need to later take legal action against your employer. If you enjoyed your employment to such a degree how can this lawsuit be validated? Etc.
I'd rather have those meaningful conversations, if so appropriate, in person, not in writing. If someone that you truly respect at the organization isn't near you, a personal phone call is appropriate.
Address your resignation letter to your immediate boss, and Cc, your H.R. representative. Sign the letter. Save the Microsoft Word letter as a .PDF file for electronic transfer. DON'T send the original, editable Word document!
In most cases H.R. will need a signed letter to make your resignation official. Address the email to your boss, Cc your HR rep. In addition to this add a Bcc (blind copy) your personal email address. Bcc won't be noticeable to the recipients but you'll get a copy sent to your email for your records.
There is no need to personally deliver a printed copy to your boss. You're going to be sending a digital copy so it's redundant. Before you send the email and attached, signed letter, have a face-to-face professional meeting with your boss and politely resign in person. Afterward you can let your boss know you'll be following up with a formal letter.
To your point Dan, resigning in person shows respect. It is at this point, in-person where you can elaborate your deepest, and mushiest regards. But please folks, DO NOT put that mushy-mush in the formal resignation letter. Leave your resignation letter, professional, simple, direct, polite. Be done with it and don't belabor the task. If anyone asks where you're going and you don't want to elaborate why or where, just politely say: "I'm leaving to pursue other interests".
(Date, address, recipients, etc., at top)
    Dear Mr. Bachenhimer,
Please accept this email and attached letter as my formal resignation from Acme Widget Company. My last day will be MM/DD/YYYY. Thank you for the opportunity to work for Acme Widget Company and I wish you all the best!
    Respectfully,
    Paul Pro

BUT WAIT, can I be an international treasure? Please? I spend so much time in Mexico and also in the U.S. Do I have to choose?

This video is gold! Got me laughing throughout. Everything said is correct and true. And you will surely not be going back to this Company you are leaving but you may need HR for any questions you may have after leaving, (tax statements, etc) so it really is best to "keep this party polite" as the song goes....

Beautiful are the words kind compassionate mindful. Keywords that I am finding, are the key...keywords to a happy and successful life in general. Okay "love," a good word too but not as much as the first 3 IMHO lol! Grateful to you Dan!

    Hi Dan!
    I love your advices.
I am turning 55 next sommer and I've realized I need a new job.
I accepted in 2020 to work for 80% but now that doesn't cover my expences.
Next month we are having our yearly boss-employee meeting.
Should I let my boss know that I am no longer satisfied with muy current position (80%)?
Or should I wait until I have a new job simply to present my resignation?
    With warm regards,
    Gabriela from Germany

Gabriela, that is pretty much up to you. My suggestion is that you ask for the money you need to make a living, but when you do that, be prepared to start looking for a new job and when you find it--present your resignation letter.

I'm switching departments at the school district I work for. HR already knows that I couldn't resolve things with my supervisor . For better or worse, I did go to HR about my boss and how she was treating me. HR seems to value me as an employee , but I do have to interview for the opening I want. I can't just transfer . How do I go into my interview and make a good impression, when they already know ahead of time that I have sour grapes towards my supervisor and they know that is the real reason I am interviewing for another position within the organization. My interview is June 27th .

Let them think what they want. SAY NOTHING TO CONFIRM THAT. Think of the benefits of the new position, and discuss only those benefits. If they bring up your relationship with your boss, say something along the lines of--That may be, but I really look forward to . . . and then name things about the new position. Do not get into it regarding your problems with your supervisor--not one word.

What if I don't want to give the 2 weeks notice? And just to quit, I was passed over a promotion and am supposed to train them on my position.
