@SOPHI3333333333333 If they had an affair? It's been said in several different bios that she did have an affair wither Mercer. This was a clip taken from a TCM program about Johnny Mercer.
@SOPHI3333333333333 Yes, it's true that she and Johnny had an affair. But then, it was getting back to his wife, so they sent a member of his family to Judy's trailer to tell her to knock it off - and she did. But Mercer's wife never forgot and there was one song that Johnny wrote about Judy that his wife forbid anyone to sing or even mention.
Humph! So Mercer didn't have the guts to go to Judy face to face? Sounds like he didn't want to end it, either that or he was a bit of a cad and a coward to boot. Just an opinion. Judy, to her credit, stopped the alleged affair when the family stuck it's big nose in.
S Robin Dittrich: The one his wife forbid anyone to mention or even include in a list of all his works was “I Remember You.” But he also wrote “That Old Black Magic” for her. There were probably many others that she inspired, but those two were well known to have been for her. Their love affair lasted throughout their lives, whenever they had a chance. His wife would not give him a divorce. In those days you couldn’t divorce just because you wanted to-both parties had to agree. If he had ever divorced, I think they would have married, given Judy’s penchant for marrying. He was wild about her his whole life, and she loved him but not like he loved her--so they say.
Shame on them? Sounds like Mercer chased her on her wedding day at that. I think Judy knew her new husband was gay, if this was Vincent Minnelli. So when a heterosexual man like Johnny Mercer comes around, what's a girl to do?. If my husband was gay and I needed affection, I would have been tempted too. And to Judy's credit, she stopped the affair when asked by Mercer's family to do so. Kind of cowardly on his part not to face Judy himself. So I say more shame on Johnny then Judy. Just an opinion.
We were so fortunate to have Johnny Mercer in our lives
Judy was a class act. She had her moments of weakness, but she always sacrificed for others.
I think that Mercer loved Judy, but Judy don't loved Mercer.. for Judy was only friend!

@@srobindittrich6599 What would it have done to her career?
“Their” love? Nah, he loved her and wanted to marry her, but she didn’t. Maybe she’d seen too many of his drunken rages.
shame on them
