I have the 8220 and bought a spare battery from Amazon and it died after a few months but I just bought a spot welder to replace the one dead cell and now I’ll have two batteries again for the dremel.
Great video and teardown. These units outlast the Plug in mains ones in my experience , and they can be maintained since the parts can be ordered for reasonable amounts. btw there is one MOSFET, the other TO220 device next to it is a freewheeling dual shortly diode.
The 8220 is noticeably more powerful and has a longer battery life compared to the 8200? I'm thinking about changing it, but I have an 8200 in great condition, but 10V batteries are becoming harder to find.
Now they've got the 8260 can't wait to check it out claim of a 20% power increase from the 4300 model which has a plug. The 8260 is "smart" cordless and brushless. Excited to see what it's about for $160 USD hope it's all they've talked it up to be
Massive #FAIL in your ever-so-long early review phase, saying you didn't have the tool to remove the attached bit - you totally OVERLOOKED that that unscrewable collar near the attached bit, CONTAINS a spanner to let you loosen/tighten the Chuck/Collet. One of the BRILLIANT design elements of the Dremel 8200.
This or Bosch Gro 12V? I found the Dremel 8220 with all accessories for $170 and that can only get you the Bosch without accessories, I'll need to fork out another $50 for all extras. What do you think?
What size screw driver to remove screws to take case apart? My 8220 I can’t find the right size. 3.0 mm don’t fit too small and reg size screwdriver standard is too big?? Wtf?
Honestly I went through 3 Dremel tools that eventually overheated and burned out, they bog down under pressure and just don't that the torque even when carving simple wood, decided to buy a used Foredom for less that $100usd, smartest decision I've made
Thanks for the compliment! The brushes on these can’t be removed without tearing the motor housing open, which would mean, it won’t go back together all that nicely. One of these motors costs between $5 and $10 wholesale so they made the brushes a non service item unfortunately, as with a lot of these tools nowadays. Replace instead of repair.

I came across this video as I'm going to have to disassemble mine due to it not powering on anymore after I dropped it off from a workbench. Disappointing really as it wasnt much of a drop and no external damage. Any ideas on where to look at as to why it won't power on.
Hello did you ever get yours going? I'm just after buying the new model 8260 Brushless, I have several other lidl-Parkside ones that are doing a fair good job but speed drops a lot under load, Brushless one is speed controlled no matter about the load variations within reason.
You're a silly Billy! The front section unscrews and is molded to fit the pin vice section. Unscrew the front piece, move it up and on to the vice section, hold the lock button in and . . . turn the thing. You don't need a spanner at all - I never use one.
If your 8220 vibrates you should look at the balance of the pin vice and / or the tool you are using. I have the later model and with some testing I found that certain vice I bought produce vibration while others are better made. Also try relocating the spindle in the vice, it really can help.
@@jed2055 I have the Bosch equivalent (same company) GRO 12V-35. Because it's not designed as good as the Dremel, it has a longer drive axis, it vibrates like crazy anyway. I bought it because I have other Bosch tools using the same battery. Bosch has made the professional 12V series battery the same charging end but not the mounting end as the Dremel. Otherwise I would have bought the Dremel.
Very interesting video. Honestly, I am not refer some machines that operating on a microchip. It is seem that we will depend so much on that chip and will not able to repair if machine fail down.
I thought so too, until I bought soldering iron with microchip - geez man, never going back to those bulky, "manual" ones. Besides, thew world will end faster that manufacturers stop selling "microchipped" versions, so no worries. Take a first step :)
I did get 18650 battery's quite powerfull and 3100mah and I change the battery s from sanyo 18650 charge comes to 6.5v I got they dead as the charger tough they fine even tho one thing the Dremel multy max was used twice didn't work charge the old n the new remove charge and I got 9.5v after I charge them full for the old battery's on my charger seperatley didn't help and the new replace the second battery and total came 12.8v as 3x25 amp new ones and the same size battery from 1500 mAh yo 3100 mAh twice n a bit on top and what sucks is it still dead does not start and that's sad any ideas ???
You can consider my battery idea if I find the right model I'll comment it tho same battery's inside looks pretty same same screw placement that sneaky clip got me questioning what's up with the opening
Does anyone know what kind of MOSFETS are those? Mine blew up when the motor got stock and now I can't read the numbers on them. I know I can buy the whole switch assembly but I prefer to buy only the MOSFETS since it's cheaper that way since my tool is very old and not in a good shape.

I have an older cordless dremel and have change the mosfet 4 times now .The 80NF03L-04. also blows if you over do it .Had it 18 years it was ok for half its life till the original mosfet blew .Its never been the same since .It will run as its supposed to do , but as soon as you over do it it blows .I even added an extra heatsink but that never worked .Wonder if there is a more robust mosfet you can fit
@@LOTPOR0402i had the same issue. when the MOSFET blows it seems it can hurt the control board . i tried replacing some blown gate drive transistors but gave up and ordered a new electronics assembly repair part which wasn't too expensive. i conformal coated both boards, especially the legs of power diode and tbe MOSFET. i also put a ⅛" copper plate / shim between the to220 devices and the aluminum heat sink. then when reassembling i stuffed layers of thick silicone pads in between heats sink and the backside of the battery terminal clip to add thermal mass . i did this to both my units and never had a blown part since - at least 5yrs and running now, and i push these units insanely hard. i've replaced the motor in each at least once. the new brushless unit is also excellent, but these brushed units can run slower for more finesse.
i just bought one and im horrified at the quality first 1 battery second 90 bucks for just the tool and one bat and charger and 2 dollars worth of bits.. the case is horrible after 50 open and closes the hinge that uses plastic will break off they should of used a metal pin style same with the locks.. the dremel 3 led we need 4 they do that to protect you from going to low and doing a warranty claim its more about protecting them than you.. the dremel uses a sticker lol a sticker for the 3 led light bar to spruce it up lol a cheap sticker for the battery too the dremel body has sharp plastic i mean cheapppp plastic the grey parts dont fit well it uses for the sliding electronics resistive sliders those will wear out instead of electronic they slapped this thing together and called it 90 bucks and good its not sure it works and power full etc.. but its just jinky sure ill use mine already bought it.. but im disapointed a milwakee one thats 90 bucks is far better if oyu have the charger and m12 batt so save your money and buy one of those they basically gave you the tool used 10 dollars in plastic and a 2 dollar off the shelf motor for rc cars in this thing but what choice do we have now seeing how trhings are hard to get ahold of because of the covid lie.. and by lie i mean supply issues all a big lie to increase profits and raises prices see false flag... so basically theres the milwakee one and the cheap usb charger ones from amazon so you have 3 choices they all suck we need a digital cordless good and if oyu even look at the corded ones what ryobi has one ughh ryobi stuff fails too bought brand new soldering iron cordless it failed on me finally spent 100 bucks on a good one a hako or what ever its called folks stuff now is plain garbage dont belive me go open the box and look at this thing and things in general its garbage in garbage out and we have no choice
They are certainly not that what they once where. Ever since Bosch got hold of them it went downhill. In line with their Bosch Green tools & whatever their new range of off-green & grey coloured tools are about.... Anyway, as my wife says: A glorified nail polisher. ;-)
My problem is great for cutting accurate lines through pvc pipe BUT powder gets into motor and now making terrible noises. Designers should have mad the unit suck air in from the back and push it out the front instead of sucking from the gills front-side. Not enough thought put into airflow and apparently heat dissipation. I'm here for the teardown to see why when I put it back together the armature or integral fan is rubbing on something. Cannot for the life of me see what is rubbing or why.

Nice video of the tear down but I would have liked to see how to remove the brushes and how much they had worn in five years.

I got the collet stuck in the shaft when it broke off. How do I get those little pieces that are at the bottom of the shaft out?

The 8220 is actually more powerful. Comparing the specs from the manual, the 8220 vibrates substantially more.

Well Dremel.. because you realized w/ the 8200 was marketed without a light; then, replaced it w/ 8220 w/ light, please replace mine w/ 8220 w/ light.

I have both and the only difference is the battery. The 8220 has slightly more ah.
Interestingly I have an 8220 for at least 5 years. Says 5k-30k rpm.
