    A tip for anybody who doesn't have the mounting screw: the screws that hold in the 2.5 inch hdd are the same size as the m.2 mounting screw! If you can't find any online, one of these will work. My m.2 screw hole had a yellow plastic piece in it, however, so make sure that is taken out first!

    Hey I have a question! The RAM slot that you showed...So, it had like 4gb and you put an 8gb stick? Or was there another slot underneath the motherboard? Is it possible to run dual channel on this computer? I bought this exact model yesterday and I don't know if I should buy a 4gb or an 8gb stick, as it currently has 4gb, I'm thinking in putting another 4gb stick making a total of 8gb, but if it only has 1 Ram sslot hen I'd be screwed by doing that.

    It will be my first time upgrading my laptop and I'm quite scared but thanks to your vid, I found comfort that it will turn out great!
    Just a question, I've seen somewhere that just moving the OS to the SSD without formatting the HDD will cause the OS to not get the maximum read/write speed. Is this true? Is it always recommended to wipe the HDD first then migrate the OS? Thanks! Much love. :)

    • @viocaia
      @viocaia  5 років тому +1

      I don't think so, but looks like a good idea to format the disk before only if you use an used one.If is new there is no need for that, just migrate the old one.Good luck and don't be scared.Be careful about electrostatic charges from our body, so touch the metal parts of the laptop ones in a while.

    I'm currently researching how to upgrade my aspire 5. The video was helpful, though i am confused by the choice in dual memory. So far as I had the understanding both memory sizes and speeds most match for best performance. Acer say's that this laptop can support 32gb of RAM. correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't you have to remove the original 4gb stick with soldering iron then solder in a 16gb RAM. I have no interest in soldering this project. My questions are 1. can i mix the original 4gb RAM with a RAM the same speed but different size and receive the full performance and compatibility with 2 sizes, same speed? Or would it be wiser to match size as existing ram that is not removable?

      They are working together.After you install M.2 SSD, move the os to SSD and in BIOS make it first boot.Afterwards delete old HDD partitions, and repartition and format.It have to loose any booting propieties, it just a simple data deposit.
      Maybe acer support was thinking about haveing two boot disks in the same time.Everything will be much more easy if you can connect old HDD by a usb adapter, then is very clear the laptop is booting from SSD.

      if you have an M.2 SSD..you have to use an external USB HDD , use Backupper to do an image of the ''old''128 SSD...don't forget to make the external disk bootable with the utilities in Backupper software, then just install new M.2 in the slot, boot from external and follow the screen, transfer the image to the new M.2 ...If you have a 2.5 SSD already installed in the classic SATA slot it's even easier...just backup and restore to new M.2, eventually make new M.2 boot disk in BIOS and that's it!

    • @viocaia
      @viocaia  4 роки тому

      like I said , open Disk management under Windows and check for partitions.If there is an empty space for the rest of M.2 creat new partition and format...the migration software doesn't see the whole disk, just a leftover from a previsious install..that's I can say...you also may try this with free partitioning software like EaseUs..there should be a hidden partiton or not partition at all, create new one..

    On that M.2 port can an M.2 NVMe SSD work? Or just an M.2 SATA?
    I ask because I am about to buy an SSD and I don't want to make a mistake.

    Ah, I can install the Operating System on that M.2, right ?!

    • @enlroma3680
      @enlroma3680 4 роки тому +2

      In case someone else has doubts, yes, you can also install an M.2 NVMe on Aspire 5 A515-51-xxxx. At least that was the answer given by a recognized user in an Acer forum.
      The only limitation is that the speed is half of what these types of units can reach (just over 1000 MB/s), at least that is what some screenshots showed (test speed performed by a user). The problem is the PCIe lanes, generally, laptops, at least this one, are limited to 2 lanes (about the why of this, I only found personal criteria without reliable references). Despite this drawback the speed is still higher than an M.2 SATA.
      IMPORTANT, I HAVE NOT EVEN CHECKED THIS, I AM AWAITING THE NVMe SHIPPING
