Great vid. I just ordered this laptop and a 4GB stick. Is it a good idea to run the initial set up before adding the RAM or is it fine to do it right out of the box?
I think it's fine to do it right out of the box. It's the BIOS that recognizes the new RAM. Changes to the OS through setup should have no effect on it.
I will be looking to upgrade the ram and add an ssd to this soon but have a few questions as I'm not a tech guy lol with the ram, if it can be upgraded to 32GB ram, is that 2x 16GB ram cards or can it take 2x 32GB cards (64GB total)?... also would this accept a 1tb ssd? and lastly if you could recommend quality brands/makes of both ram cards and ssd as I don't want to buy rubbish or the wrong thing it would be much appreciated, thanks.
The motherboard can only support a max of 32GB ram, but it can accept 1tb ssd, just make sure it is the right form factor. If you have enough money for 64gb of ram on a laptop, buy a nicer laptop lol. good luck m8

Hi. I followed your video and was able to successfully install the RAM stick (8gb) I am a total dummy when it comes to technology so you did an amazing job in showing this process. The only thing I had a bit of a problem was that since my laptop came with only one 4gb stick the other slot was opened and I didnt know if I could just insert the new one of if I had to pull the sides as you did with the other one to open it (again a dummy). I figured it out by taking the other one out and looking how it worked with that one. So again, thank you great video!! However after I turned my computer on, it is slower than before the upgrade. It takes longer to turn on, it takes longer to open websites on the internet and any other program. I wonder if you could shed some light as to what can I do. Hi. Great demo. If I buy a laptop that has two slots, but one is not upgradeable (8 RAM - so four and four presumably), but it says that it's upgradeable to 20 RAM, that would mean a four stick and a sixteen stick. But you're not really supposed to 'mix and match' sizes. Would it be okay? I'm looking a the ACER Aspire 5 A515-56G 15.6" Laptop - Intel® Core™ i5, 512 GB SSD, but would like 16GB for Lightroom.

I’m still a bit new to PC gaming and just bought this laptop 3 days ago. If I were to buy two 8gb DDR4 ram sticks, what does it exactly do to my computer and will it accelerate it’s life usage?
Hey Mike! Quick question. I bought the version of this laptop with Ryzen 3 processor and Vega 3 GPU. It came with a pre-installed Samsung 4GB, 2666mhz, 260pin SoDIMM RAM stick. I currently have the exact same RAM stick (Samsung, 2666, 260, SoDIMM) except that the memory is 16GB. At the bare minimum I would like to upgrade to the new stick to give myself 16GB, but I am wondering if it is possible to install it in the second channel instead so that I might have 20GB of working RAM. Will this work???
Got min yesterday and sadly only one stick of ram was put in. Its 8 gigs but a single 8 gig stick is terrible. Its essentially holding back my Ryzen 5 5500U. Got two new stick coming tomorrow to deal with this.
It is possible for 2 different size ram sticks to work together, however it is not advisable as these would run at slower speeds then if you used 2 identical ram sticks together. Check it this article for more info medium.com/level-up-web/5-biggest-myths-about-ram-that-are-still-out-there-38cbe57ffbc4
It will upgrade your ram but I've read that the speed will be limited to that of the slower of the two sticks. Should still improve your performance though
5:27 exactly what I was looking for my laptop has also same slots(two) like you which are opposite to each other so if I installed the second ram upside down while matching the notch will create any problem? Please reply. Hope you understand my problem.

Followed the video and everything went smoothly but I loaded it up when I was done putting the 2x8gb stick in and it still says I’m only running 8gb of installed RAM at a speed of 2400Mhz and not 16gb. I’ve have tried most solutions I could find on the internet but none have worked. Have I done something wrong or bought the wrong sticks or something? I bought the 2x8gb 2666V sticks as my 2x4gb ones that was in the laptop when I bought it was also 2666V.
Someone told me to try them individually to see if any of them was faulty and they both showed as working when I checked in task manager, put them back in together after and they both worked so I have now sorted it. What about on the Ryzen 3 3200u (4gb ram). How much ram can I upgrade to and what MHz also how many slots are there. Thinking to buy the laptop off CeX And do I have to remove the battery before installing new ram?
you can upgrade to a max of 32g over the two slots or if you have 4gb in one you could add another 16gb to make 20gb and probably best to remove the battery and power leads

Ok I just got this same model of Aspire 5 and my two ram slots appear to be different kinds? The notches are reversed on them. Do I have one DDR4 and one DDR3 slot?? Is that even possible?
Just install the ram sticks according to the notches. This PC, as far as I am concerned, only uses DDR4 but a quick google check using your model number should tell. I bought a ram kit that came with 2 sticks to replace the one that i had installed. I hear it's better to use the same capacity ram in the two slots for better performance. Will probably just sell the one that came in here or save for later use

Great vid. I just ordered this laptop and a 4GB stick. Is it a good idea to run the initial set up before adding the RAM or is it fine to do it right out of the box?

I check on my settings and the computer does show the upgrade of RAM memory it is now 12gb. I also restarted the computer but no success. I will appreciate your help Thank you in advanced for your support.

If I buy a laptop that has two slots, but one is not upgradeable (8 RAM - so four and four presumably), but it says that it's upgradeable to 20 RAM, that would mean a four stick and a sixteen stick. At the bare minimum I would like to upgrade to the new stick to give myself 16GB, but I am wondering if it is possible to install it in the second channel instead so that I might have 20GB of working RAM. Will this work???
yes that is okay some times the ram is soldered to the board so you have no choice
Got min yesterday and sadly only one stick of ram was put in. Its 8 gigs but a single 8 gig stick is terrible. Its essentially holding back my Ryzen 5 5500U. Got two new stick coming tomorrow to deal with this.
Hi Mike: How about ESD concerns? I don't know if your table is protected or not but is placing laptop on a cloth a concern?
there will be a little static build up but not enough to damage the components and the cloth will prevent physical damage

Same question. Can answer this please?? 4gb+8b=12gb usable or only the higher between the 2.
