CORE DRILLING THE STONE WALLS - New Loft Conversion Bathroom
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- I needed another two cores drilled to allow access into the top floor for a new soil pipe and also a vent for the extractor fan. Always a bit of a chore with 500mm walls but glad to have that ticked off the list!

Reminds me of the escape scene in Shawshank Redemption!
Hopefully when he’s got the soil pipe up and running he won’t have any accidents and have to swim through anything.
That drill had a very good innings
I am always impressed by your achievements.
Well done lad. It takes the patience of a saint when coring through stone walls. Just have to settle in for a long haul!
roll on 2021 where we will definitely get to see the workshop-build :-))))) Happy NY, guys :)
Bought myself one of those Titans today purely on the logic that if it's good enough for Tim... 😎
Merry Christmas lovely family ! 🎄🎁
Titan sds great value for money 👍
Just perchance a old house and trying to find information about how to fix and reavate properly for the age off the house is so hard
Thankfully I found your channel keep up the work 👍
You could have drilled a sacrificial off-centre pilot hole from inside to get the position outside, then you can drill with the core drill centred as required from outside. But you still managed to achieve a good result!
Thank you for a year's worth of interesting videos , Happy Christmas to you and your family looking forward to continuing the restoration next year !
Something good to watch in these hard time. Thank you!
Happy Christmas to you and the family, loving your videos, always entertaining.
Hope you give yourself the Christmas off, Merry Christmas to you, and ye girl’s
Difficult at best of times. But you won. We'll done. 👍
Blood, sweat, and tears. Well done.
I have killed every Titan product I owned - I have now switched to Makita.
You should change the 90 bend for an access 90 bend you never know when a blockage will happen sir.
THIS TIM - if not too late....
Thank you so much...excellent video
Nice one and life is full of compromises.
Great job!
Merry Christmas ya'll
Brave man doing that without a core drill! Happy Christmas to you and thanks for the videos this year!
P.S. for those who don’t know, a core drill has a clutch whereas a SDS drill doesn’t making it pretty risky if the bit digs in and snaps your wrist.
The Titan ones have safety clutches mate, but I take your point. Not a good feeling when they catch if you don't have a clutch!
Got to hold on tight I’ve almost broken a wrist with just a 18 volt drill and a hole saw😂
Brilliant. Congratulations on adding stone masonry to your list of skills
Happy Christmas
Nice easy and informative watch
Cracking video, hope you and your lovely family have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
You know you've done a proper job when you've got your blood on it.
Great job mate
As somebody below asked, why not drilling the floor and running the pipe along the inside of the wall, instead of outside, where it can be seen and the frost may cause trouble?
Im sure there is a logical answer but i can’t see it.
Great job!
All the best and look forward to your vids in 2021
One comment in that SDS drill, from having it for 6 - 9 months, is a lot heavier to use than my older smaller one bit having the cordless one it makes a lot of sense as a more powerful one.
Great Video & a merry Christmas Tim & family 👏👌🏻👍🥃🍷
And to you. 😀
I've never had issues with blowing if you don't use the hammer setting. I've done a wall like yours with the big Titan above shoulder level - that burns!
Happy Christmas to you and your family, stay safe
MeRrY cHrIsTmAs and a very HaPpY nEw YeAr ... from our family to you and yours.
Thanks for some thoroughly good entertainment and tips throughout 2020. Cheers 🍻 A&A
🎁🎂😎👍❤️
Lovely job mate 👌🏼
Even if u pilot hole is wide u can drill a hole through a bit of ply wood and fix it to the wall and use it as ur guide
Yes, done that before when taking a 4” core up to a 6”. 👍
I’ve had that big Titan SDS for about 4 years, great tool for the money. Bloody heavy though.
Merry Christmas to you and your family Tim 🎄👍
Yes that Titan is definitely a workout even before you turn it on, but a bloody good tool for the money.
Helpful video, have similar job to do also, any core drill bits you would favour, cheers
I have that big Titan SDS. After 3 cores the clutch has failed, but the hammer still works fine, so is purely used for light demo work.
Yes exactly the same issue but only drilled not hammered with the first one but hopefully the larger one last ok, hopefully not too many large cores to do so more demo work like you say.
Hey man, when you come out the wall too high, pitch down 45° for a short bit, then transition back at the correct height with a 45° fitting. Also, not sure what your laws are, but I’d put a clean out close to the wall in the attic so that you have close access to that elbow. Hope this helps.
Yep access on the internal elbow where not visible. Height came out just fine in the end, wouldn’t have looked great with any more external joints so glad it was just a straight run. 👍
DIY, there is always a bloody finger!
I work for a large mechanical/elec contractor, I really do forget the price of some of these drainage fittings when ordering. Im not on a job that is using any cast/ensign at the minute otherwise I would have looked to see what was spare.
It soon adds up. Even the cast iron branch was over £100. 🙄
Not better doing that in black fittings/pipe Tim? Also you should check out pipe snugs has a flange that sits inside the wall filling the excess gap and an external makes the job look really neat and saves messing around with muck round the pipe
less drama with the channel tunnel.
I wish the stone used in my basement was as soft as that. I had to drill through a 30cm wall for some venting a while back. I was hoping (rather naively) that it was a rendered block wall. Turns out it was granite. I have another one to do at some point in the future on the other side of the house. Not looking forward to that.
james, how did you do it? I'm trying to figure out to get the piping for mini splits (aka reversible A/C) though granite three times, as well as mounting three interior and one exterior unit. Plus, I suppose, the wiring. The plumbers won't touch it, nor the electrician.
@@jfsabl hammer drill with a stone drill bit and a chisel bit. It took some time and the result wasn't pretty, but I got there eventually. Fortunately the other side of the house was just brick, so I cut as deep as I could with a hole saw and then chiselled out the rest.
I have that sds. Works great just a shame the dust comes out just where you face is when you're drilling in a lintel!
What earphones are you wearing?
Love the roof vids
Nice neat job there - Better than MOST that's for sure :-)
Have the Titan drill, worth every penny. And once you paint the plastic pipe only yourself and UA-camrs will know the secret.
I work as an architect in the Netherlands. We never run soil pipes on the outside of buildings here. Wouldn't it be better to run it down inside the house and only go outside under ground level. That way you don't see them and will have no problems with frost.
No real option to do that especially as glass porch is at ground level and would lead to too many people to elbows to route inside. I’m sure if building from new then we would not choose external but it is a common feature on old houses to have an external stack.
Are you worried about the waste pipe being exposed to the elements? It seems like you would have trouble with freezing
Not really, there shouldn’t be any standing water anywhere at any point.
Are you still replacing the gable window or have i missed that video ? also when is the date the scaffolding has to be taken down are you on course because i remember you only having the scaffolding for a set period until you would incur extra charges? keep up the great work.
Oh my non existent Christmas bonus went to fund the extra weeks of scaffold hire! 😂 fitting window next week. Last job as using it for access still.
With tools I’m in the camp of buy quality and buy it once.
But each to our own and our own budget.....
Can you replace the carbon bushes in the old Titan drill?
Done that twice. It’s the clutch that seems to have gone I think! 🙄
The hole Should've been at a slight downwards angle from Inside out in order for the waste to flow out easily. Having the pipe level is not a good idea.
Yes it did, once in a little I angled down. 👍
Put sum bondo on the plastic elbo and texture it then paint it with hamerite ‘hammered’ finish and no one will know it’s not cast iron
Use some hammerd finish paint and you'll never know
