Forever grateful that David is a permanent host now
Yah david
yee boiiii
I'm not a big fan but I appreciate he brings a different perspective as I do like to think about thinks from multiple lens
Didn’t he start with the ui thing
Agreed
David’s expression at 1:59 was too funny after Andrew said “I think it’s going to replace the sun”
😹😹😹 I caught that
Seriousness 😂😂
Even the teary eyes joke just before cracked me up. I just like how he delivered these as if they were nothing 😂
You took that bit on the yellow iPhone so far…and I love it.
Who else likes when trivia is long? No need to make the segment shorter. I enjoyed the back-and-forth you guys had.
Can't stress this enough but... pod episodes are getting better day by day. My fav podcast without a doubt
this has been the funniest start of the podcast ever 🤣🤣
Thanks for watching and commenting ❤️❤️👆👆
Telegram me👆👆 I have a surprise package for you 👆👆
Next year they better make a matte black iPhone, we may even get a full episode devoted to it lol
24:49 Marques ... He's right, go to a furniture store. You can actually pick what you want that way. And if you're having trouble, you can actually rely on the sales people. I spent months looking for a couch, burned myself out, and stopped looking for a year. Then, I decided it was time. So I went to the furniture store I liked the best and explained it to the salesman and then said "Can you please show me just 3 couches, that are like [description], and around $XXXX." He showed me the 3 couches, I asked a couple questions. Made my choice. Took like 30 min, if that. And I'm super happy with the choice.
Haha I watched my aunt buy a couch like this recently. I couldn't stop asking her how she is not concerned that she didnt get the best option etc. She said, she found a couch that she likes and does what she needs it to do. Isn't concerned about getting the best possible option she could, just happy that she got an option she can live with.
@@girlgreenivy yup. Life's too precious to worry over minute details
This podcast is now in my Friday ritual. I watch you guys while I finish work😂😂😂
Same😄
Thanks for watching and commenting ❤️❤️👆👆

@@April9iine riiiiight , of course
Yeah 😂
Why do you find that funny ??
The trivia section was really enjoyable with all the talk, theory craft of the answers, etc. Listening what was your logic and also getting off topic was really fun
(This applies to all the podcast)
Totally with Andrew on that one. The "Patreon model" of unlocking member-only stuff works. But paying for on-demand videos on Tiktok? No way.
I can see David Imel making a video "How the Vikings Shaped the Yellow iPhone". (no seriously i love david's and marques's content. great work guys!)
52:43 In India, In smartphones, Apple's market share is 4% and Android is 95%.
Now do companies instead of Android lol.
Yeah those sales numbers are really skewered because they don't take into account the many upon many variants most of the foreign companies have. Not sure where Apple's global market shares stand now, but for years they've been losing market share every year.
Not suprrisins. Apple is expensive and India is a third world country.
@@Adam-vx6to aww.. third world countries have more options than yours.. proud to be from third world..
@@itsachyutkrishna Huh? More budget options of course. Because like I said, India a third world country and thus needs more budget options.
This is no hate, simply a fact.
Of course flagship phones arent going to be as popular in India because statiscally less people can afford them.
Simply stating facts, not hating India.
Thanks for another great podcast guys. It's definitely become part of my Friday's evening routine lol.
I'd love to hear more bout some obscure tech related topics, i.e. David's 7 keys of internet. Sure you wouldn't be doing it each week, but be nice as sort of mohly theme thing, or something.
Cheers
Petr
this is one of the few podcasts that i watch vs listen to and it's worth it every time. love the content and the production. keep up the excellent work.
Thank you all for the podcast,
right now this is the only podcast that I'm listening to (cause I enjoy it and didn't found any other that feels as good as this)
Just wanted to share this with you
I was depressed and snowed in from this storm...you guys don't know how much I appreciate your podcast.
Okay… the first topic was downright hilarious. It took a split second to realize the blatant sarcasm to it all 😂😂😂🤪
It's funny haha. What's even funnier is how Apple bois actually talk like this but they're not sarcastic
@@jobz9150 ain’t that the truth. I mean my brother and I highlighted in our podcast and even as avid iPhone users we were just like - it’s another color. But… it’s not like the highlight news. 😂 glad these guys poked some fun at it! 👌👍
42:50 This! This is what I signed up for! Name 'n Shame hahaha
Love the crew chilling, chatting & connecting. The vibes are just on point!
Shmuniversity of shmothern shmalifornia 😂
India is buying crazy amount of iPhones recently, and the main reason is the discount. iPhone has become way cheaper in India now as production started here and amazon is selling last year's model for 60% during sale.
Thank you. I needed rhis to get me out o work ❤ tysm tuys
This is hands-down one of the best episodes ever. couldn't stop laughing at the gym clothes bit 😆
I wonder how many iPhone 11's are selling, but on the used market. As far as I know, it is massive as well, as even older iPhones are generally great and give exceptional experience.
What a way to start the podcast, hilarious
This show feels like a great combination of half Hello Internet and half contemporaneous tech review.
Whoever said they didn’t like the ranting during trivia was totally wrong! The ranting is my fav part!
I've been on the Spotify Android beta app for years, I have not seen this feature. I hadn't even heard of it until it was mentioned here.
I actually love to see the "most successful product video. Maybe not to crown a winner but the corolla made me realise there are a number of really successful products
Loving the show guys, all the way from South Africa 😎😉
Something interesting for the Spotify Ai DJ is that if for example you are in a road trip with a friend, you both can start a session and the DJ could make the whole thing for both users
You guys just always put me in the know about tech
This spotify AI is actually pretty neat. There's a lot of times I don't know what to listen too and I can see this helping when I'm at work and just need that background noise. Thanks for chatting about this boys probably wouldn't have known without the discussion
1:00:00 yea this is true I’m a 16 year old high school junior and EVERYONE I mean EVERY kid in my high school has an iPhone. I previously lived in Nigeria (an African country) and coming to the US was an eye opener it’s INSANE. I mean you could walk to any kid and you’d see them with AirPods in their ears and some iPhone in their hands. I was FORCED to make sure I got an iPhone because of iMessage groups your basically screwed if your a US teenager without an iPhone. It’s so comical every single kid has white plastic in their ears and an apple in their hands .
It's sad because the iOS user experience is lacking in many ways. iOS is great for the elderly or kids, but is unbearable for any power user.
On the ecosystem lock-in at 1:00:00. I think what it comes down to in the apple case is that they build up a very high level of integration, within that ecosystem. And some of the following points were kind of mentioned but I'd like to summarise them again:
- The integration is not only showing on the surface with apple exclusive features and seamless interactions among apple devices
- The integration of the hardware in the perspective of systems integration and supply chain integration when designing and building the products. And also reusing parts over generations and between different products
- Building high and low-level software specifically for that hardware or their OSs
And to conclude, this position of apple was build over many many years with is mindset in place from the beginning. And in that position they always were able to charge premium prices and build upon that dominance while saving money at the process that is already feeding them well.
And just to mention, there are obviously other facts that make Apple a very successful company.
great job bro
I love the sections where they all come together to see the amazon listing rating
Love those podcasts ❤
the trivia section is one of my favorites, there’s is not need to make it sorter, it was really funny
wow! what a perfect time to watch a waveform podcast :D
Jesus, Marques laughing while saying "the whole pants are backwards!" made my day lmao
Nice comedy podcast! The tech commentary was nice too.
Awesome Podcast ✌️
Interesting! Nice video!✌️
wait but I love David's mug LMAO
Apple has slowly started offering more and more discounts here in India in partnership with e-commerce stores and banks especially for their base 128 GB model for 12, 13, 14, etc and also iPads. This has been a big factor in a lot of people buying Apple products here in India.
Here's one for your review check segment. I once bought a jacket with elbow patches and I didn't realise until I was out wearing it that one of the elbow patches was on the wrong side of the sleeve. So one elbow patch was facing forward and one elbow patch was facing backwards. Not the best time to first notice the error lol -1 star for quality control and -1 star purely because I had to embrace it all night 😂 3/5 from me.
43:13 - talking about that upscaling.
We have some mobile processors, AFAIK last Snapdragon flagship one, as well as Exynos, are capable of RT.
Since they have some RT cores, this could be applicable to some mobile phones.
Let's say you're on mobile data and you would like to reduce data consumption, you reduce the video quality and turn on upscaling.
Would say that's a nice possibility.
This discussion on AI DJ makes me really miss old radio stations like KFOG
Andrew is so right on the TikTok thing.
I support people on patron and I have never really thought of it as a purchase in the traditional sense.
I get some extra perks and get to support these creators, which feels nice.
I wouldn't buy a video from the same creators and it would probably feel weird to think "was that video worth 5 bucks?". It just feels removed, it feels wrong, I hate it...
Actually never thought I would watch a tech podcast but I have taking a liking to this one.
IMO the Spotify DJ is the best implementation of AI into a platform yet
David said 96.9 the eagle lol
I love that he always represents the bay and Cali in general in a very relatable way
love you guys' humor!
Props for using the Framework Chromebook!
You should really check out the podcast "The Anthropocene Reviewed" by John Green, it's my favorite. On the surface, he reviews random stuff on a 5-star scale, just like you did in your segment. The review topics range from Tetris to the concept of Love at first sight.
But really, the reviews are actually about his own personal experience with these things and they serve as a means for a memoir and philosophy
Have listened to every episode!
Apple should experiment a yellow "Pro-color" for the 14 Pro
There is a guy I follow on TikTok who basically already does this. He’s a scholar and he’ll talk about misconceptions/misinfo in his field and occasionally he’ll advertise online lectures that he does
Gotta love David’s inability to not yawn 😆
having recently learned about Fruitger Aero, i’d love to see y’all have a convo about tech design aesthetics throughout time! like im curious about the ways in which both the cultural context, and the technology of the era influences design choices. maybe David could do another investigation/report like he did w/ the 7 keys to the internet!
great episode as always, Studio Team 💜
1:04:30 “Shut up grandpa, time to get in your *Apple bed* ” 🤣🤣💀
that sanic mug is divine
43:03 I LAUGHED SO HARD I ALMOST SPILT WATER ON MY TABLE
I dont know why but I've been waiting the whole day for this video :(
Am I the only one noticing the chaos getting more and more fun lately?
LFG! Not sure when this became my favorite pod... But yup, that happened
Got a question!! What does Qualcom stand for...? Like what's the expansion of Qualcom?
I had the same problem with 3 of my tires. The problem was that there was dirt between the tire and the rims so there was no proper seal. Not sure if it’s the same for you tho. 28:11
I was surprised at how the gang were surprised at the iPhone's popularity on a global scale. I go to work and almost all of my coworkers flash around anything from the 12 to the 14ProMax. Although purchase power parity is significantly skewed when the U.S. and my region are taken into account, it doesn't stop folks getting their hands on the latest Apple tech.
Couldn't really blame them if the devices serve their purposes.
56:10 Pretty sure they have just taken US and Europe in this survey, just like every other western survey. If Asia , heck just India and China were accounted for properly, things would've been different.
Some people in the comments swear Iphones are selling very well in India, which I still question it. I definitely don't think that they sell that well overall in China and the rest of the world. I think it's mostly US based because Apple's overall market share isn't high enough to justify the positions worldwide, and cert couldn't tell the true story if the many variants foreign companies have were totally counted.
I miss the commentary during trivia 😔. I understand that some people want it shorter, but I love all the little rambles (and the not so little ones).
1:00:03 that's true, if I was growing up in the US now, I'd just go for an iPhone, there's no contest. but I moved here as an adult, I didn't quite have the same social dynamic pressures to switch to iOS
On the TikTok paywall subject -I’m a short form cooking creator and I have no idea why people would pay for recipes behind a paywall when there is so much free stuff out there. But, I know a few creators who sell either individual recipes or a bundle of them on their website from $3-$20 and while it’s generally a low conversion rate compared to views, they have made $4k+ in a month doing this. So my gut reaction was similar to Andrew’s but seeing this creators experience I would guess more people will pay for stuff than I would think. Sorry for the book
The iphone sells for massive discounts in India during the festival season around august September October. I got my iphone 13 for less than 499$ converted during that time. When you go out nowadays in metro cities of India, you will find 4/10 people owning an iphone which is a big jump from even 2 years back when it was around 1-2/10. The discounts apple pushes in India is making the Indian consumer choose it over the chinese brands. Also, In the Indian society apple phones are a status symbol of how well you are doing in life.
True
That’s interesting. What it says is that if the iPhone was cheaper over there, a lot more people would prefer it over Android. When I say a lot more, I mean a lot more than originally thought as I was understood that most people over there preferred Android.
So the truth is , many indians werent buying androids because they liked them, but they couldn’t afford an iPhone?? Interesting when you look at it like that
Week #1 of petitioning for a longer Waveform podcast.
Thank you as always. Smart and calm discussion. Better then some stand ups these days in terms of jokes =)
1:05:00
The Robik's Cube sold millions and to this day also sells alot...
That's what came to mind during this segment
@Marques you're Marques! You can afford much higher quality tables (that are usually not sold online).
There's a mini version of ecosystem locking within our family for Samsung, mostly because of UI familiarity and "Quick Share"
“I’ve never seen it with my eyes… …I’ve seen it with my ears now that you’ve described it.” 😂😂😂
can someone write down, what was the objective top 10 phones list?
I do like when they take time for the answers):
Aw, I'm gonna miss the longer trivias
David’s mug really caught me off guard 😂😂😂
Nice sweater Adam 👍🏻
I bought an iPhone 13 after the release of the iPhone 14. Makes sense, considering how similar the 13 and 14 are.
And the iPhone 12 really.
55:07 At that point the Iphone 12 was only 1 year old, and after the new one comes out they previous year's gets a massive price cut. So it makes sense a lot of people would buy the one-year old model year. It's like buying a car in a way
honestly with the prices of phones, it is like buying a car
Please make a video on how google with pixel lineup could break the monopoly
Great podcast my favourites are Marques and David
Hey WVFRM, How come there isn't any closed caption or subtitles for the video??
Cannot stop laughing at the close-up of Andrew saying “Fire Them!” 28:17
same
this might be a bit of a reach, but what if Spotify trained its DJ on your favourite podcasts and had the hosts do 1-2 minute segments and introduce songs etc. They definitely have the training data.
What headphones is everyone on the panel using?
43:32 David yawning again and realising he did it again 😂😂
Marques should wear more white shirts. Is the shirt he wore on this podcast part of the MKBHD merch? Also, you should do a call in portion. Announce on Twitter what time people should call in, screen the calls and do a live call session like a radio show. Would love to see this as a 3 hour radio show/podcast one day.
Thank goodness you answered the pants question we all had LOL
The Apple fever is everywhere, hard to resist
The DJ voice is not a bad idea if we’ll use, like telling you info about the song that you don’t have to read, who wrote it, year how well it did and any history the song have if any.
3:43 meanwhile my colorblind friend is having an existential crisis as he looks at both a pale purple and a pale yellow piece from a board game and swears they are the same color. 😂😮😢
How about some geography questions related to tech? Eg. Like in which city was Sony founded?
I am not even into tech that much but I like this for entertainment purposes
That is a biiig yawn by David at 55:01 xD followed by thr stare to see if anyone had noticed xD
