  • In this video I show how to sweep a wood burning stove flue or chimney using the Chimney Typhoon Power Brush System. Whilst cleaning the chimney I give my thoughts on the Chimney Typhoon and provide you with a few helpful tips along the way. It is recommended you have yearly checks on your flue by a HETAS approved engineer in addition to cleaning your flue yourself.

    Brave wearing a white shirt to clean a chimney! I have to take my stove out to clean chimney so it is a major operation and all furniture is covered and the floors. But this system seems much , much better than my manual rods. Great.

    Nice demo. If I had that much creosote come out of my chimney flu after the first clean in a long time, I think I would run a second sweep, to see if there is still a lot more that needs to come off. The fact that allot comes out didn't mean there's not allot left. But nice review.

    Concise and clear demonstration which has prompted me to buy a kit. Frightening shot of you on a roof though. A little niggle for me was the use of the word ash rather than soot. This is solely my personal view as I consider the ash to be the residue left from the burning of wood and the soot is the build up within the flue.
    Just as an observation I believe that the most efficient way of burning wood is to have a layer of ash (not soot) as a fire bed about 50 mm thick rather than having a grill under the bed as normally found in a multi fuel stove to provide an updraught for burning solid fuel.

    Excellent clear vid again mate. Very concise and helpful. On another point: who installed the stove. I ask because of the clearance distance to combustibles are usually around 400mm and your wooden skirting boards look about 150mm. Just to be aware. Great vid!

    • @POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
      @POUSEaroundtheHOUSE  4 роки тому

      I fitted the skirting after the stove was in place. Had the stove fitted by HETAS engineer. He wasn't too bothered by the combustibles rule, but to be honest it never gets hot by there, and I think it's a rule that most people don't follow, so I put them on. It's fine. Thanks for watching!

    Hey. Good Video. I want to extend the period of time in between sweeps - how long had you left it since you had alot of ash. Of course it depends how often you use the stove, plus what you're burning is a factor too. Any info ? Cheers

    Problem is that the chimney isn't usually where the buildup of creosote/ash is, it's the chimney CAP that clogs. Therefore, you still have to get out the ladder and climb up on the roof to remove and clean the cap. That takes care of ninety percent of the problem. While up there anyway, it's pretty simple to run a conventional brush down the chimney to take care of the other ten percent. I have yet to find a way to clean a chimney cap from below, or (the holy grail) a self cleaning chimney cap!
