No way an actual tutorial that goes in-depth to explain how the effect works? Impossible I wish more people would learn from you, there is only a handful of people who make such wonderful guides for free, you are an absolute blessing to the community... Alright, enough of this sweetening or you'll get diabetes.
Definitely the most in depth demonstration on how to master MNM technique!! Your work is amazing ! Hope you can keep up sharing such valuable content !!!
I have to admit, I have been trying to pluck up the courage for some time on NMM. This tutorial is by far the easiest one to follow. I am going to give them a go when I get back from my holiday. Thank you for such an amazing tutorial.
The best nmm tutorial I have ever seen! Clear illustration and unabridged painting process are fantastic!😍 Looking forward to a black armor NMM tutorial~🤩
Like I already said on your Instagram: you are the godfather of gradients. Sickest gradients I‘ve ever seen. Amazing stuff. Thanks for the tutorial!!!!
Hi and thanks a lot for your message. I'm not a master of OSL but I gave it a try last year on a NMM marine (there should be a pic or two on my Insta). Cheers !
If you have an airbrush and are at all remotely used to oil paints I really like to use vince venturella’s technique that he used for his blood angels video. Very similar effect but less time since blending with oil paints is a lot faster
How so simplified? That is just plain gorgeous NMM. What's simplified is our job after this amazing splendid tutorial. T'es vraiment un sorcier copain 😉
Really like your Space Marine look. I have a UA-cam channel too, love Space Marines, I do mostly true scaling and conversions. I subscribe to your channel, hope to see more of your work.
I just found your UA-cam channel recently after visiting your blog for years. I used your old blog post about how to paint NMM when I started painting space marines and it was the most useful resource I found on the topic. I paint using oils which makes the blending much easier, but your concepts for light placement were still the perfect guide! Just wanted to say thanks! Great videos!
I have been waiting years for this, and you certainly lived up to your name. Your minis are some of my favourites, I wish you all the success with this channel and am glad to be on the ride.
This is the tutorial i have been looking for.. Thank you! I would love to see in the future a video about the difference between a darker armour and a super bright version like dark green vs. bright green nmm. :)
How the hell did you manage to teach me this so simply?! xD This is so much better than all the other NMMS I've watched, it's almost 11pm but I have half a mind to stay up and paint till the sun comes up while this is still in my head lmfao.
This is great. I’d love to know though the steps going from ‘simplified’ nmm to whatever the non simplified version is. So how could we take this a step further? Different colour tones or light placements perhaps? Great stuff.
Hi and thanks for your comment! Yes going from simplified to realistic is not straight forward, many aspects to be thought, mostly related to the complexity of the reflections. Different tone variations, finer placement of light and shadows, and of course better representation of the environnent "inside" the reflections. I'll propably try to make a video series on that at some point
@@merlinsmagicworkshop9192 cheers. That would be awesome! I’ve found a lot of medieval armour sites on Instagram which have loads of really useful references for different shapes/ colours etc.
honestly this is amazing im gonna try it with my highlight/midtones/shadow of my own and see if i can mimic honestly i tried this technique in 2 minis already first one i didnt understand the color structure to follow and next one i was very shy on putting reflections and didnt always blend in the right direction like u show in this video so im pretty sure this third one its gonna be the one!! thanks and great video
Really loved that! I like the brillant colours and the effects of nmm, really want to paint an army of that! Im guessing how should be with a different type of miniature, more "fleshy" and textiles filled, i dunno like a guardsman? Thx again for this precious vid!
Hey ! So I'll probably do the Red scheme for the third video, I need a bit more time to try a few variants and make sure I can do it right. Next one will probably be Green 😉
Hi and thanks a lot for your message ! I usually use brush only for my NMM, in order to be able to draw tiny reflections, but I'm sure someone with good airbrush skills could do the same
Cool video. It's funny how volumes are called nmm now because of GW and its lack of volume work outside of nmm. I guess it's more intense reflections more like metallics.
Hey @MerlinsMagicWorkshop thank you for wonderful video/tuturial! Just wondering if you had a full step by step video and or blog or images that would show us how to paint a miniature from start to finish in greater detail? I would even be willing to pay for something like that :)
Hi and thanks for your comment! For moment I dont have pdf guides. I'm planning to make some in the future for my Patreon page, but probably not before early next year. Cheers !
If I paint one of my models that well, I’m not going to allow anyone to shoot at that model in game. It’s too well done to allow such a thing! 😂. Wonderful tutorial, thanks!
This video was so helpful! Look forward to watching more. One question: Why was it necessary to layer ‘Magic Blue + Imperial Blue’ but not ‘Magic Blue + Electric Blue’?
Great video, this is very helpful, thanks a lot. I've one question, is there e reason you start painting the reflections with the midtone first and the darker colours later and not from dark to light?
Thanks a lot ! I guess it's just a personal preference. Though the advantage of blocking highlights with middle tone is that it creates immediately a good contrast with the base color, so it's a bit easier to check if there are issues with the placement of the light.
@MerlinsMagicWorkshop thanks, i often highlight from dark to light and my highlights often end up to small, so this might also be a good method to prevent this.
10 hours, but I'm a rookie... so 20 hours , 2000 points... let me check... someone wanna play with me on january of 2030? That miniature looks amazing.
Yeah I have the same problem 😁. Not impossible though, maybe as a background project. I started a UM army couple of years back, adding one guy time to time, i'm at about 40 marines + 2 vehicles now , cheers !
Hi! Actually its the same with me, even if I shake the bottle real hard ... for pure black I ended up using other brands, recently got the army painter fanatic black, it's really really good
The problem is 40k models need hundreds of painted models. I suppose your could just use an airbrush and do a decent job on the mainline troops and then splurge on this technique for Characters.
Hi ! Yes ot takes forever to paint an entire army like this, but this is a life project! I sarted mine à few years back and now I have about 50 miniatures done. Cheers !
that color showcase in the picture is actually very informative for newbies not gonna lie
Thank you !
I have searched far and wide looking for a tutorial exactly like this. Thank you so much!
Instructions unclear im 10 hours in and only have a single leg painted.. I'm kidding of course fantastic video and amazing painting, learned so much.
Thanks a lot mate 😀

The explanation of your blending technique, using the animation, was the best of the dozens I've watched. This needs to be upvoted.
