I have a TV to watch movies. I have not watched broadcast TV for 25 years. When you don't watch TV you suddenly realise that most people spend most of their nights just watching TV. That's what they talk about when I go to work. Instead I go to the gym, read books, garden and do DIY.
I haven't had a TV since 2007. It surreal when you take a walk on a lovely spring evening in a residential and all you see is the glow of everyone's TV and the only people you see out a dog walkers, generally with their faces buried in their phones.
Im 13 years ahead of you mate. What happens over time is that you find you become an observor upon society and it's behaviour without being drawn into it. It's odd because you see the hive mentality in action. Also, you notice that you have so much more peace of mind, clarity of thought and improved sleep. I also stopped listening to all types of talk radio and over the last 6 months, ive avoided all news broadcasts where possible and never read past any headlines. i never read the main story...EVER...It's pointless because it's agenda driven propaganda. Finally, I do not subject myself to any advertising where possible. I do not and have never used social media other than these UA-cam comments. I recommend everyone to throw away their TV. it is absolutely liberating. Furthermore, not only am i infinitely happier, but I am also much, much more productive. TV, advertising and social media are an absolute cancer. Yes I am 'out of the loop'...i don't know who the so-called celebrities are, I don't know what brands are fashionable or not, I don't know anything about celebrity culture, I don't know anything about the latest gossip..nor do I care.
Thanks for the comment! I can relate to your experience very much. I haven't watched or read the news in a long time and I avoid ads where I can. Most of it is completly irrelevant to my life anyway and just brings unnecessary negativity :)
Your absolutely right it’s amazing how I stumbled across this. It feels amazing but first it was hell because I was surrounded by the normal minded people who watched new, media and Facebook users but after I got away from them and TV it’s blissful.
I recently realized that I sit in front of the tv to “relax”. It’s so easy when you are exhausted to just plop down, hit a button and escape to another world. But….. I don’t like watching tv. So I’m on the hunt to find other ways to relax that don’t include watching tv.
Haven’t had a tv since I left home when I was 18. (10 years ago) Bought a projector that I whip out when I play switch with my daughters on games night (Every Sunday evening or odd rainy day) Made a worlds difference to my home relationships and our communication as a family is amazing.
I recently said goodbye to my smart tv and brought in a 1985 CRT tv that I can use to play games and watch VHS and DVDs. I can be more intentional with what I want to watch and the old tv adds a nostalgic vibe to my room. I love that there is no internet connected to it or streaming apps or commercials stealing my attention. I have a 3 year old son and he absolutely loves playing Super Mario on the Nintendo! This has to be the best decision I've made for me and my son.
Thanks for the comment, I know what it’s like when your partner sees things differently, but I found that by just changing my own life I can sometimes inspire my girlfriend and overtime she becomes more open to different ways of living :)
watching tv is easily one of the lowest value activities we ever do and do a lot of. I have such an internal conflict. I've tried to use self control to curb my tv watching but it just doesn't work. I think the only alternative is to also get rid of my big screen. I see no other alternative. I can alway get my vid entertainment from my computer which in a way could be self regulating because its so not as enjoyable looking a computer screen.
I can totally relate! It is very difficult to rely on self-control alone, when endless entertainment is always just a push of a button away. I now only watch shows on my laptop. As you say, with the smaller screen it is less enjoyable, so I never watch for hours on end as I used to do on my TV. Getting rid of my TV was one of the best decisions I ever made and I never regretted it :)
I lost interest in smartphones. Such a huge constant distraction. I use a dumb phone now for over a year. I at least can't walk around with my computer so i only use it for UA-cam videos and for research when i get back home, but usually once a week or never. It's been so beneficial to help me focus more on my spiritual growth and life of Faith and other areas of my self-development.
One of the main reasons why I stopped watching TV is because it's too expensive. My cable bill was so high I would have to choose between paying it or paying the mortgage.
New subscriber because of this vid! You are right...I know I need to sell my television and cancel my subscriptions! It's so funny because ten years ago, I didn't have a tv and got by just fine! Thank you!
Films and television series can be captivating. Personally, I dedicate two hours max before going to bed using my laptop. It's a good way to relax and reward myself without using a lot of concentration after a long day of successfully completing the duties required.
Thanks for your comment! It's a great idea that you set yourself a time limit and also that you watch on your laptop - I think that those things make yourTV watching a lot more intentional :) In the end, all that matters is that it feels right for you.
My family of 4 never watches TV, we all hate it. We still got a TV, and it will still receive free channel with an antenna outside, but the very times we turn it one for like 30 minutes, is when we need to keep an eye on the stove. lol
As a kid didnt have cable so i watched pbs kids. Im a light hearted guy. Love happy endings. Tv is in my closet. Lost my remote. Have a laptop watch podcasts.
Well you are in the present moment all by yourself then because your friends and family are busy watching Netflix or looking on their smartphones. Be fully present and you will notice.
Can someone explain how people mindlessly watch TV. I think a lot while watching. I judge morality. I think about real life situations that are similar and how I would handle them. I consider my goals and dreams. I learn about different cultures and ways of thinking.
I think it is definitely possible to watch TV intentionally as you seem to do, but I don't think that this is the default for most people. I used to spend a lot of time watching whatever was on at the moment and usually it were shows that didn't add a lot of value to my life and that exposed me to very questionable goals and values. And even if I would watch an interesting show that made me think, most of the time it still wouldn't be as insightful or thought provoking as reading a good book or having a discussion with a friend. The point of this video is not to say that TV is totally horrible, but that even if it provides some value, it probably keeps us from other even better things we could do with our time instead.
Congratulations. You no longer own a tv. Join a very old club. I haven't owned a tv for over 20 years. My Children, who are gen Z, did not grow up with a tv or cellphones. They are the nicest kids you'll ever meet.

@@johannes.frenzel Yes, I think I'm resolved to removing the "screen of death" brain death that is ;) from my life. 👍🏽
I GOT rid of my big screen. Now I watch youtube all the time - same thing - I hate it
The closer I got with God the less I watched TV! I dont mind podcast but i don't watch movies or series anymore!
Someone throw away my phone!!!!! I've always considered getting a basic phone. I wish Blackberry would make a comeback

Yes it can be really expensive - when you think about what else you could do with the money it just isn’t worth it :)
I've never owned a TV in since I've been a adult. I'm 29 now.
I took 6 month break from TV. It's now month 158. Best thing I ever did. It only makes you poor, fat, stupid, bitter, and afraid.
So true! Congrats on 158 tv free months :)
This was a super useful and insightful video, thank you!
Thank you for the comment :)
Time is very valuable and life is very precious. No life is better then being present

How about learning a musical instrument-like maybe the electric(or acoustic)guitar?
Yes, I think that’s a great way to spend your time and express yourself creatively! I play some guitar and harmonica :)
I never watch TV anymore

TV is a great time waste , maybe limit yourself to 30 mins a day , even social media apps and youtube can take a lot of ones time.
I used to watch tv. Now I just watch UA-cam without commercials Lol
No commercials is definitely a big plus haha :)
It's well worth the £12.99 a month.🙂
Has anyone tried to have a conversation with someone who has just been watching TV for hrs .
Haven't owned a TV for ten years, it was easy coz I simply don't have time to watch TV.
thanks for the comment :)

I don't watch TV. And people think I am crazy
I only know old people who watches TV.
I threw my Television in the Trash, when I came to know the Lord.
me too !
Yes, television can be a huge distraction from our spiritual pursuits, thanks for the comment :)
and recording videos is better?
Here in England if i stop watching tv it will save me £160 a year
imagine your teacher making you watch this and do an assignment on it😄.
Sounds like a great teacher 😄
Haven't watched tv in 10 years. If j watch it now its so boring lol
Tv is the medium of the 😈🔥.

I'm gonna guess that you are a Sagittarius.
Everyone I know has a tv in their house
Most people do, but to me that's not a sufficient reason to do the same :)
forced to watch this
Thanks for the comment, I hope you still enjoyed the video even though someone forced you to watch it :D
