Better to find a sweet spot between modern and classic, stylish and personal, and beautiful and practical. I hope you love this room as much as I do!

Can I just say that YOU are absolutely my favorite DIY-er. I get a pure burst of joy when I see that you posted a new video! Seriously! And watching the live and dedication your parents give (from their ❤) to bring your visions to life but mostly bc they want you to have a home to be proud of… it’s magic. I’ve commented before, you keep things real and in perspective… I watch these bc I don’t have money, and can’t hire people, but still have creativity and really want to love my home. You really inspire me to not give up. You are so relevant in everything. Clearly artistic and talented. Your personality in infectious. The fireplace and ceiling are perfect. Painting the doors and trim same as walls was a great choice. The niche where the tiny closet was, is brilliant and sophisticated. The furnishings, bed , lamps, ceiling fan are all perfect. This is a curated space with such warmth.
Looking forward to seeing the closet covered, the door to bathroom changed out to a pocket door. And I’m sure you’ll find that perfect mirror for that corner.

EVERY other "make over channel" I watch, they are like "money is no object". YOU Sir are REAL and your creativity with thrifting and using what you already have on hand makes your rooms so much more interesting. I would not have bought that bed, now I see any other one would just be lost in that room. The leather head board cover removed the "Colonial" look to it. WOW on it all.

The fact that you (and your mom and dad) can look at a corner and cabinet and visualize how to hide the gaps with a simple desktop, is fascinating to me. I can decorate, but this level of complexity, and creativity for reusing materials is beyond my skill set or imagination. I never would have thought to add that piece of wood over the mantle. Brooklinen sheets make a world of difference, they get even softer with age. If I am exhausted one night then just pass out on the coverlet being so hot here in Florida, then I forget how good they feel. Even when I wake up, I notice them again.
As I watched this I thought that my favorite piece was the Mondrianesque wall hanging because you saw the flaws (broken slats) and created pure art. BUT when the reveal happened, THAT was my favorite part. All of it. All of it together. Everything was so right! What an inspired space. Your dedication to maintain the age and style of the house really makes it all so perfect. The details (Wow!), keeping the original trim, compensating for the leaning wall with your parents always amazing help, really makes for perfection. As for the art, what a great eye. Between her choices and yours, it's a masterful creative vision that came together through the generations. Congrats!

The angled pattern of the fireplace tile echoing the angle cabinetry and wall ‘art’ above the mantel - so subtle but so effective. I love the ceiling fan - air movement can be so relaxing, not just cooling.

The house I grew up in was a little older, but almost the same style. LORD, nothing is level, nothing is square; not a straight line in the house. I love to see how you and your parents deal with this. Whenever I would wallpaper, for example, I could never use a geometric pattern, or even a stripe would show how crooked everything was. Great job of conquering that. Your parents are gold.

Is there anything your parents CAN'T do? And so well? Wealth of skill, talent, knowledge...and support. Congrats on the sponsorship. Wasn't that long ago your channel was struggling to reach 10K and, in no time, 20K is on the horizon. Your commitment and accomplishments justify feeling emotional. Would love to see a dark, fluffy comforter, some moody print pillows...perhaps a heavily-textured throw... to elevate the look of the bed.
As a maximalist, I really admire your restraint in decor while still showcasing your own character. Also I noticed the squirrel that ran across the roof in the last window shot!
I love it. I love how this room has so much geometric design, but you designed it so carefully that it doesn’t feel overwhelming at all. And that is where you see that Japanese influence and It feels zen. And even though it is a new room, it feels cozy, it invites you to live there. And it looks like someone lives there. I hate those very simple cold rooms people is doing now. They look like museums, cero cozy. Your room is cozy, invites you to be and sleep there. The way your origami inspiration feels very present, but so delicately is very exquisite. My only problem is how the canopy bed is breaking that stunning window in two. The place for the bed is a dream. That huge, stunning window in the back, waking up there with all that sunlight on you directly is dreamy. But the bed, I don’t know, if you could make the canopy taller so it stops breaking the window in two, or just get rid of it, it would be perfection. But still, gorgeous room. Stunning. Congratulations to you and your parents.
Finally, some amazing parents who are really involved in helping their adult child. I don't get this vibe with american parents who usually think they are not their problem when they turn 18. I see you honour them and love them a lot. Besides the house stuff, I wish you have them in your life for years and years to come in the same way you do know ❤
I love this comment! Yes me parents and I are very close even outside of the home reno process. I think you are right that it is an American expectation that parents are done once their children are 18… BUT also the expectation for young people that being a successful adult means moving far away from your parents and never needing them in your life. I’ve been fighting that expectation a lot, but I’m so happy to living close to my parents again and doing this renovation with them!

I kept doubting individual components: the dark ceiling, the angled cabinets, and the origami fireplace wall; but when it all came together it just seemed like “of course”! I also love that you kept the traditional elements. Nothing looks too new.

I love the creativity involved with all your recycled finds or treasures as you utilize them so well carrying out the visions you along with your parents for this bedroom. Outstanding work on that fireplace - I really do like the tile. I was not sure I wanted you to stain the surround dark - I loved the light natural color at first, but afterward appreciated the warmth that the brown stain provided in contrast to your bed color. Your personality is charming, and you are so very real - a winning combination for continued success. I built my house with 7 pocket doors and it was a pain even though the brackets were put in before the drywall. After the fact, I realized I should have made the pantry door a pocket. The uniqueness of your channel is the attention to detail in your way of storytelling, editing skills, music, and especially how you and your parents reimagine all kinds of found items.
